GAZelle-Business: methane field

For reference

Compressed natural gas (CNG, compressed natural gas) is used as a motor fuel. Gas is produced by compressing natural gas in compressor units. Storage and transportation of compressed natural gas takes place in special gas storage tanks under a pressure of 200–220 bar. Biogas is also added to compressed natural gas, which reduces carbon emissions into the atmosphere. The main component of natural gas is methane; it is lighter than air and, in the event of an emergency spill, quickly evaporates, unlike heavier propane, which accumulates in natural and artificial depressions and creates the risk of explosion. CNG is non-toxic in small concentrations, does not cause corrosion of metals, is superior in calorific value to any petroleum fuel; when burned, it does not leave soot, and the exhaust gases do not have sulfur impurities and do not destroy metal. Low boiling point is the key to complete evaporation of natural gas at low ambient temperatures. Compressed natural gas methane is the cheapest type of motor fuel currently in common use. Fuel costs per 100 km driven on a car with a CNG engine are almost 60% lower than on cars with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) engines.

Comparison of methane and propane

General benefits of gases in fuels

Both gases have common advantages over gasoline, which makes it possible to expand their use in propulsion systems from year to year.

  • Lower price relative to gasoline;
  • Environmental safety, less impact on human health;
  • Increased driving time without refueling due to the larger volume of fuel that can be stored;
  • The complex slows down the wear of car parts, especially when using an initially adapted engine.

General disadvantages of gases in fuel

There are also several reasons why gasoline still retains its leading position as a vehicle fuel.

  • Less availability of gases for consumers (number of gas stations, as well as service centers for cars with gas installations);
  • Decrease in vehicle power when using gas fuel;
  • Increased wear of some particularly sensitive areas of the engine (for example, valves), taking into account the specifics of “dry combustion” of gas fuel.

Main differences between methane and propane

Methane and propane differ significantly from each other both in the specifics of storage and in the specifics of use as fuel; each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

  • As for LPG, adding a propane unit to a car engine is significantly (up to 70%) cheaper than installing methane LPG;
  • In terms of cost - in the long term, after the installation of gas equipment has paid for itself, methane provides high savings on fuel relative to propane;
  • Reduced power - propane, relative to gasoline, gives a slight reduction in power up to 3-5% of the engine, and then at speeds above 140 kilometers per hour. Methane “weakens the machine” by up to 20%. But it is worth considering that this circumstance was almost leveled out in modern specialized installations;
  • Environmentally friendly - propane has impurities and is not considered completely safe for humans and the environment. Methane is the cleanest fuel on the planet, superior in safety to electric motors and solar panels, and on par with alcohol plants;
  • Weight of cylinders and volume of fuel - propane, compressed under low pressure along with its tank, weighs several times lighter than a cylinder of compressed methane. At the same time, propane can be stored for a journey three times longer than methane;
  • Explosiveness - methane is half as explosive as propane, and taking into account dispersion, it is considered the safest compared to almost all other types of fuel. It is also worth noting that methane cylinders are damaged and deformed significantly less during an accident than propane cylinders. Thus, propane delivery becomes more dangerous in the long term;
  • Availability of gas stations - methane gas stations are rare, you have to look for them specifically; gas stations with propane are almost as common as gasoline ones. At the same time, equipment for compressing, purifying and refilling methane is significantly less complex than propane equipment.

By contacting the competent specialists of our company, you can halve the costs for each kilometer of road. In addition, we guarantee a number of other benefits:

  • Installing gas on a car
    does not require any changes to the engine - the equipment is mounted separately;
  • Gas has a positive effect on the technical characteristics of the system;
  • The oil does not need to be changed as often due to the low level of contamination;
  • Gas is a safer and more environmentally friendly type of fuel (compared to gasoline);
  • The noise level of the car is reduced.

Note! Control of the gas fuel system is carried out by the driver himself inside the car - using a switch you can choose what type of fuel to use at the moment.

HBO installation process

Gas cylinder equipment consists of the following elements:
  • Cylinder, multivalve.
  • Pipelines.
  • Filling device (VZU).
  • Gas valve.
  • Differential gearbox.
  • Vapor fraction filter.
  • Control block.
  • Gas injectors.

The price will depend on the equipment used (there are five versions of gas equipment on the market) and the complexity of the work required. Correct functioning of the engine, adjusted level of fuel consumption, high quality and durability - we guarantee all this.

Propane or methane?

Both types of gas engine fuel are used equally effectively. Propane

– gas produced during the processing of petroleum products.
It is a liquid that, when compressed, does not go into the vapor phase (gas state) and is stored in liquid form. Filled into cylinders of cylindrical or toroidal type of different diameters and volumes.
propane
gas in cars
is often carried out for passenger cars.
One metal propane cylinder weighs up to 35 kg. Methane
is a natural gas. It is a gas. It is stored in compressed form and does not pass into the liquid phase. Has a lower cost. As a rule, methane equipment is installed on commercial vehicles. The weight of the cylinders can reach 110 kg.

Choose gas as the best fuel for your car!

Methane

This is a natural simple gas, colorless, odorless, and explosive! Chemical formula – CH4. In order for you to feel the leak, odorants (usually thiols) are added to it, these are the substances that give it its smell! That is, you can feel the leak and react in time.

Its main application:

  • This is fuel (for the same cars)
  • Used for organic synthesis. But this is for chemical reactions (we are actually not that interested).

Now let's go over the application for the machine.

Methane is not liquefied, it is in gaseous form, it is several thousand times less dense than gasoline and several hundred times less than propane. In order to somehow adapt it to the car, it is very strongly compressed in special cylinders, up to 200 - 270 atmospheres. This is really a lot, but it is again in gaseous form, remember this is important! Therefore, methane tanks are used very heavy and very durable; let’s say an ordinary propane tank will not “roll” here, it will simply burst from such pressure. Therefore, with a small volume of gas, the tank turns out to be simply huge (well, maybe not so huge, but larger than the opponent’s), although not much can fit in there!

Its octane number is 110 units, it ignites perfectly in engine cylinders. The equipment that is used for such gaseous fuel costs a couple of times more (and maybe more) than the opponent’s equipment. This is because the pressure is enormous, and the system must be strong enough to withstand the whole thing.

The engine loses power by approximately 10 to 25%, it all depends on the class of equipment (more below).

Consumption on methane is approximately 10 - 12 liters per 100 km, I take an average car, 1.6 liter engine

Also, the technicians who install this equipment for you must be highly qualified and double-check the installation several times. AGAIN I EMPHASIZE THE PRESSURE IS HUGE! Therefore, you cannot trust the installation to shabashniks.

Because of this pressure, most likely there are not many gas stations, in our city of up to 1 million residents, there is only 1 gas station and oh how inconvenient it is to drive to it! After all, gas must be brought, pumped into storage facilities and then transferred to you, and all this under a pressure of 250 atmospheres! If something goes wrong, I’m just afraid to imagine what will happen. However, there seem to be advantages here too

Positive points:

  • Eco-friendly. After all, it is 100% natural gas.
  • Price. Slightly cheaper than propane. Now it’s about 12 – 14 rubles per liter.
  • It evaporates quickly in the air, that is, if a leak occurs, it dissolves very quickly; if the space is open, then there will be no explosion, but if it is closed. Think for yourself...

These are all the advantages of methane, there are very few of them and they are really dubious. But there are just a lot of minuses

Negative sides:

  • Expensive equipment, two (or even more) times more expensive than your opponent.
  • High pressure (200 – 270 atmospheres).
  • Heavy and bulky cylinder. About 65 – 130 kilograms (depending on the volume) which, by the way, doesn’t take that much gas, but it will take up the space in the entire trunk.
  • Refilling an average cylinder lasts only 150–200 kilometers, which is not enough in urban conditions.
  • Power loss from 10 to 25% (there will be an explanation below).
  • There are very few, just catastrophically few gas stations, their location is inconvenient.
  • Not many companies bet.

That is why methane, a less popular fuel, is a very hemorrhoidal option - this is purely my opinion. Well, let’s look at how the opponent behaves.
