I was looking for a new or slightly used Vesta or Grant, but so that the car had ESP. Granta ESP comes in Comfort or Luxe+Prestige configuration. No one had any comfort in Saratov. I didn’t hope for Lux, I definitely didn’t have enough money. I also wanted a robot! Yes, I wanted a robot. It is updated with AMT 2.0 and they always wrote in the reviews that it works better on the Grant than on the Vesta, since the Grant is lighter. And you were right!

And then I come across a Grant from the trade-in in the Luxe+Prestige+AMT configuration. And the price is super, even cheaper than Comfort. Mileage 2300 km. Purchased in Togliatti in December 2020, and it was February. Strange people bought the car and almost immediately took it to a Kia trail-in.

I previously had a lot of cars, I drove everything from Tavria to BMW X6. Great experience. Experience too. Due to financial difficulties, since 2013 I had to drive a 2004 VAZ-2107. But don’t get me wrong that after seven, any car is a plane. I try to be objective.

Now the sensations. I like the car. Car rides! The robot switches itself, nods or twists a little, but not annoyingly. That is, it’s not annoying at all. On the first day, it nodded slightly when switching from 2nd to 3rd gear, and if the slipper is on the floor, it easily turns up to 5000 rpm. The next day I tried to get nods from 2 to 3 myself - it didn’t work. Now the nods are even nice - I know I’ve switched gears. In a calm rhythm, it switches generally quietly.

Having read various reviews, I want to respond to the authors. The car is very different from the pre-restyling one. The ride is very comfortable over bumps and goes great in icy ditches - you literally don’t notice. I was never able to break through the suspension (though I didn’t even try). Someone wrote that there are no seals at the bottom of the doors; my configuration includes almost everything, including seals. Heated windshield is a thing! Parking sensors help a lot, since the stern is not visible. The noise level is high, no worse than in the Lacetti (I had it before). I drove about 400 kilometers, and the total mileage is about 3000. Nothing rattles or holds anything together. There's still a bit of a new smell in the cabin. Native music plays tolerably (well, tolerably), it connects well with the phone, you can hear me well during a call. I will describe the shortcomings (they exist) in the paragraph on shortcomings.

Now about ESP. That's great. Rowing on ice like that is awesome! From the previous owners I got Viatti winter tires on stamps 14. (Summer tires on Pirelli casting 15). In the yard, everyone grinds and gets stuck in one place, but I get out without any problems with traction control. Never had any problems! Hill start assist is a cool thing!

So my review is that it is a good comfortable car. This configuration is more comfortable. I like the seats. someone wrote that they are uncomfortable (they are new here), I can’t agree - they are comfortable, right in the shape of my back, they hold well (though the lateral support is not ice). A bit more. It goes well on the highway, although you need to steer slightly - it doesn’t bother you.

For its price there are a lot of advantages. But for its price (new) you can buy Vesta, but the truth is that the configuration is simpler.

Beautiful in appearance IMHO. Before the updated class! The trunk lid has also become better, now there is a number there and it doesn’t look so empty.

So far nothing is rattling.

Climate control perfectly maintains the temperature.

The robot works well.

Thresholds do not get dirty with dirt!

The trunk is gigantic. It opens with the key and the electronic button above the license plate. I installed the springs and now it rises on its own - it’s convenient.

What's missing in the top trim level is a touch screen with navigation. They stopped installing them altogether; the salon said it was because there was little demand. And they stopped setting cruise control, it’s a pity. Although it is described in the book!

Initially the SPORT button did not work. Changing the response of the box. Service with big eyes that they have not seen such a car in such a configuration and do not know what kind of button it is. But I ordered it and am waiting. It's been more than 2 weeks now. (A spoon of tar)

The rain sensor doesn't always work predictably; it doesn't swipe away when there's a lot of rain, or it swipes over clean glass many times. The light sensor turned on the headlights once in the sun and I didn’t understand why it didn’t turn off, I wiped the sensor - it didn’t help. And he shined his phone point-blank, but didn’t turn off the headlights himself. But then it just went away. I don't know what happened.

I advise you to buy. This set is so rare. You can take Vesta, but in a poor configuration (for the same money)

Comparison of Grant liftback and sedan

On May 15, 2014, official sales of Granta liftback cars began in Russia. The new product has received an updated design, but the list of improvements does not end there. Many design elements have been improved, we counted exactly 5. In general, in the new version the car has become more comfortable, as you can see by signing up for a test drive.

First of all, you can notice that the bumpers of the liftback, unlike the sedan, are painted only in body color. Black bumpers, which evoke associations with plastic, are a thing of the past. At the same time, the designers also changed the shape of the front bumper recesses. Now the car looks more modern. In general, you can distinguish a liftback from a sedan by the shape of the bumper.

Four more differences

The Lada Granta liftback received original and stylish exterior mirrors, which now have turn signal repeaters built into them. In the liftback, the license plate is attached to the fifth door, and the rear bumper has the opportunity to be equipped with fog optics. Thus, we can highlight 2 more design improvements - the presence of “repeaters” and a rear fog lamp.

Significant changes have also occurred in the chassis of the car. Liftbacks in the “Norma” and “Standard” versions received a suspension tuned in a new way. But the luxury version of the “Grant liftback” contains gas-filled shock absorbers in its design. This has never happened before in any production LADA car, if you don’t take into account the sports versions. A new, more advanced vacuum brake booster (VUT) will be installed in all configurations of Grant vehicles produced in the liftback body. However, over time, technical improvements will “migrate” to other versions of vehicles built on the Grant platform.

Riding a Lada Granta with a robot

I'll tell you how I go to work every day. I go out onto the highway to fit into the traffic, I just press on the gas. A few seconds and the speed is already almost 80 km per hour.

I don't touch the gear lever for the entire trip. There was a lot of talk about how wildly the gearbox howled. I drive and don’t hear anything making much noise. I can hear the tires and the engine at high speeds too. The music is turned on at volume level 12. My Lada Granta with the robot is already driving in 5th gear.

The speed is around 65, but the speedometer shows incorrectly. But the error is small, be careful. The computer is set to instantaneous fuel consumption. The track is good, but there are some bumps in the road. The suspension works fine. The potholes are audible, but do not interfere with driving.

At a speed of 90 km per hour, I leisurely drive to work every day. When you drive, take a closer look at your instantaneous gas mileage. At a speed of 90, the on-board computer shows 4.5 liters.

If someone needs to drive without traffic jams, but on smooth, calm routes, then it will be very economical. I don't hear any robot howling. How many screams have there been on the Internet about gearbox noise?! Maybe I'm lucky with the car, but I don't hear such unpleasant sounds. Maybe I have a filter in my ears? I can share...

Test drive VAZ Granta 1.6

It just seems that updating a popular, in-demand and, most importantly, affordable car is not difficult - and so, they say, they will buy it. In fact, such a task is quite difficult for designers and engineers. It's like making steam out of stone.

Amazing foxes live on Strelnaya Mountain - they are almost not afraid of people, and children watch with delight as their parents feed the red cunning foxes with cookies and apples. Older people come here to enjoy stunning views - the endless expanses of the Volga intoxicate with the aroma of steppe herbs, fascinate with their breadth, expanse and silence, detachment from everything vain and petty. Mirages, light and even space-time anomalies occur in the surrounding area. Flying fireballs fly here - they are also called “eyvs”. Either mysticism, or “the influence of tectonic processes accompanied by the active release of energy”...

However, we did not go to Strelnaya to stare at the green woodpecker or forest dormouse and not to hunt for flyers. It’s just that the road here from Togliatti is an ideal route to evaluate the car’s capabilities. Especially something like Granta. New "Granta".

What's important?

After all, Togliatti today is a real “Granta-town”. If three years ago the streets of the former Soviet motor city were swarming with old Zhiguli cars, elderly V8s, and youthful Prioras, today the number one car here is the Granta and its sister Kalina. That is why (or in spite of this, what a paradox!) for two whole days we literally basked in everyone’s attention: my silver sedan and red liftback were looked at from the windows of passing cars, we were not allowed passage during photography, they looked inside to look at the interior, approvingly or nodded thoughtfully at the prettier face of the car.

And the expression on “Granta’s” face is now completely different. “What is important when working with Granta? – explained AvtoVAZ chief designer Steve Mattin. – Emphasize its belonging to the model range. Therefore, the priority was the front. We made it as vertical as possible, and the hood as horizontal as possible, and worked on the stern so that it does not seem too narrow and high.”

But at first, when Steve began to introduce the notorious “X-lines” on Togliatti models, I must admit, I doubted it - too radically, too sharply. Now, looking at Grant’s face, which has changed beyond recognition, I can only admit that the venerable Englishman was right. The car not only looks fresher, but, what is much more important, more solid and richer, more expensive. Now it is easy to confuse her with her older sister “Vesta”. Which, in fact, was what was required.

Goodbye Kalina and hello again

And you can distinguish the car from its predecessor from the “loin” part - the easiest way is by the license plate. Having moved from the bumper to the trunk lid, he, in full accordance with Mattin’s idea, made the rear of the Granta not so heavy. Actually, this is where the story about external changes can end. “Of course, you can’t change everything,” Steve smiles. “Because if the changes affect the side, you will have to draw a completely new car.”

However, there is one change - both external and very radical - that did not escape the observant Togliatti residents. After all, the hatch, liftback and station wagon bear the same name as the sedan - all this is now “Granta”, and “Kalina” is a thing of the past.

But in the interior of the updated car, a Kalina heritage was discovered - the front panel from the hatch. Previously, it could be ordered for expensive modifications of the Grants, but now a more modern and ergonomic dashboard has become basic - for all versions. Nice plastic inserts, a more interesting steering wheel and center console, lively orange halos on instrument dials with radial digitization, a black and white on-board computer display instead of green and black, a new handbrake handle, different seat upholstery - this is definitely better. Other useful additions include wider headrests and noticeable lateral support on the sofa. The driver's seat in expensive versions is equipped with a height adjustment of 40 mm.

Racing

True, even on a relatively short trip it turned out that the seat itself was not very comfortable - my back was tired after just a hundred kilometers, which, however, is not surprising - new upholstery and a lift will not save the old chair; in an amicable way, it would be better to replace it altogether. But I was pleased (although also not surprised) by the suspension: my “Grant” covered the 8-kilometer serpentine from the reserve checkpoint to the top of Strelnaya quickly, without straining, proudly leaving behind carefully crawling cars and crossovers of all stripes. The broken asphalt gave way to a forest dirt road, turned into a rocky grader, winding along the mountainside, and my passengers and I did not feel any thrash under the wheels. Bravo, Granta!

On the smooth and fresh asphalt of the “German road”, laid back in 1943 by prisoners of war (and not only Germans, by the way) and recently renovated, the car, of course, could not compete with those whom we had just overtaken on the serpentine road. Nevertheless, for a budget car the capabilities of the 106-horsepower Jatco engine and automatic transmission were quite enough on the highway. Yes, overtaking needs to be carefully calculated, you need to get used to the brake pedal, which starts working in the last third of the stroke, and on the highway, where the speed is limited to 130 km/h, it is better not to approach this limit - the cabin becomes noisy and somehow uncomfortable. But what do you want for that kind of money?

By the way, for what? Generally speaking, with the restyling, the Grant has risen in price - up to 420,000 rubles. That is, the sedan added 10,000, and the liftback – 2,000 rubles. However, firstly, the car has become not so much more expensive, but better. And secondly, the hatchback and station wagon, that is, the former Kalinas, even fell in price - by 23,700 and 28,300, respectively. Of course, remembering the free cheese, you shouldn’t think that prices have dropped out of pure altruism - it’s all about the slightly shrunken configurations of five-door cars. But, you see, making a car more technically advanced, prettier in appearance, more comfortable inside, and even cheaper is an impossible task alone for Steve Mattin and his colleagues, but also for Dr. Gaspard, who brought the puppets to life. And it’s certainly more difficult than catching a fox by the tail on Strelnaya Mountain.

How the AMT robot accelerates

Just press the gas pedal to the floor, and the car accelerates. We catch up with the flow and drive calmly. The box is a little thoughtful. If you press the gas sharply, then for some time it still maintains a mode similar to sports. That is, it shifts to a higher gear, but not immediately. Probably waiting to see if the driver will still press on the gas.

An additional device is built into the gearbox housing, which presses the clutch instead of a person. This mechanism is called an actuator. But its durability is debatable. After a short time of operation, the actuator begins to creak and make noise. To fix this problem, you have to disassemble it and lubricate it. And it costs a lot.

Overall, I like this box. I don't see anything bad in it yet. The operation is similar to a classic automatic, only the shifts are felt more strongly. But it’s quite bearable and tolerable; after all, it’s AvtoVAZ. I don’t know what about reliability, we’ll see, it’s not Japanese quality, of course.

She, a robot: what’s wrong with the “automated” Lada Granta liftback?

I know people who, having heard this, ran to buy up the remains of Grant and Kalin with real Jatco assault rifles. The latter are now available only to related Datsuns - and even then not to everyone: according to colleagues from the Russian office of the “Japanese” brand, the decision to install Jatco on the on-Do sedan has not yet been made; for now they only install it on the mi-Do hatch.

In the case of Lada, you can’t count on that either: the entire Kalina line, and after it Granta in both bodies, have been transferred to a robot with one clutch, created in collaboration with the German ZF and finalized in the depths of Porsche Engineering. This transmission worked well on the sedan, but what about the liftback?

From all angles, I like the Granta in this body better: the proportions are more laconic, the silhouette is more harmonious, the detailing is prettier. The issue of workmanship is always a concern, especially when you consider that sedans come from Togliatti, and liftbacks come strictly from Izhevsk.

The liftback's storage space may not be any more spacious than the sedan's, if you look at it in pure numbers. But it’s more convenient - the fact is: the opening is wide, the hinges don’t get in the way, you can load even a small chair.

And again I like them better: the body gaps are uniform, there are very few creaks in the cabin (taking into account the price tag), and - lo and behold! — the fit of plastic panels in the interior is better.

Especially around that same robot. AvtoVAZ still has some work to do with quality stability: the plastic trim around the selector in the Granta sedan and the Priora shakes (by the way, pre-production Vestas are guilty of the same thing), but here it’s a monolith!

If you just tear it off on purpose, for example, it will backlash. In general, it already looks like the half a million that they are asking for it in the maximum version - that is, with two pedals, a color monitor and a top-end 106 hp engine.

I haven’t driven a five-door Granta with this engine yet, but if I hadn’t looked at the car’s registration certificate, I would hardly have recognized it. Yes, compared to the 87-horsepower 8-valve engine, there is definitely less noise and vibration. They are present even at idle, but not as critical as in the case of a younger engine.

Why is it easy to make a mistake without looking at the power on the data sheet? Dynamics. An 8-valve engine paired with a manual transmission covers the first hundred in 12.2 seconds , and a 106-horsepower engine paired with an AMT in 12.3 seconds . So, it turns out that it’s not worth overpaying? How to say. If you, for example, are a gourmet esthete, you will feel that the thrust of the 106-horsepower engine is more convenient to control, and it spins up more smoothly and more linearly. How linear can acceleration be with a “robot”? With this specific one - quite.

It doesn’t matter whether you choose an 8- or 16-valve engine, AI-92, according to the manufacturer, is no longer very good for them - “not lower than AI-95,” the instructions say. We do not mind. And we know where to get it.

Engine and chassis

The engine compartment and transmission options are the same - 87 and 106 hp engines. coupled with a manual transmission, as well as a 98 hp engine. which comes with an automatic transmission manufactured by the Japanese company Jatco. There have been no significant changes in dynamics or fuel consumption, or simply these data have not yet been recorded and published.

But these were all seeds, because the main innovation that the Lada Granta liftback brings to the Russian auto industry turned out to be hidden from view under the car body. So far, the modernized chassis is provided only for this model, and specifically for its maximum configuration, which, however, we rode around Beshtau, so we already got some impression. AvtoVAZ used all its latest developments, and also turned to colleagues from Renault-Nissan for experience and worked out a compromise between handling and smoothness. The anti-roll bars both front and rear have been enlarged, thicker and stronger, there are gas-charged shock absorbers and stiffer springs that have been carefully calibrated. Note that the “Standard” and “Norma” trim levels are equipped with conventional liquid shock absorbers and the same springs as on the sedan.

“The purpose of all these innovations was to increase the car’s stability in corners, reduce roll and sway. The suspension of the “luxury” liftback is denser and more collected than on the sedan, although the smoothness of the ride had to be sacrificed a little,” says Sergei Medints, chief designer of the Lada Granta project.

In addition, the brake mechanisms have been modernized - new vacuum boosters have appeared. Due to this, the pedal travel has decreased, and the force on it increases more smoothly as the speed decreases, not as sharply as in the sedan. Thus, in general, Granta has become more informative and accurate. The modernization of the body and suspension together made the car noticeably more comfortable, however, this was not too surprising.

The appearance of a liftback car in the Lada model range does not at all mean the start of the pursuit of Skoda and its offspring in a similar formation. Rather, this is a marketing ploy necessary to ensure that the new Granta does not compete in price with the second generation Kalina, which is very similar in design, which is presented in a hatchback body. These models are also similar in their positioning as youth cars. Moreover, last year’s new product costs 327,500 rubles in the minimum version, and 481,800 rubles in the top version, while the price of the Lada Granta liftback starts at 314,000 rubles and ends at 477,500 rubles. It’s interesting that in terms of the quality of workmanship and the presence of design solutions, our today’s hero looks richer than his more expensive AvtoVAZ relative. Prices and competitors

Skoda Rapid

Its main competitor is still Renault Logan. But first of all, the French sedan loses due to the lack of an automatic transmission and a higher cost (the difference is 47,000 rubles). Another “expensive” rival will probably still be the Skoda Rapid, the minimum price of which is 479,000 rubles, but the Czech car in the “base” has more worthy filling. Well, from the “cheaper” segment, ZAZ Chance and Daewoo Nexia can act as a counterbalance. It is also worth noting that sedans are in greatest demand in Russia. So, the market prospects for the Lada Granta liftback are not as cloudless as it might initially seem.

Fox drives Lada Granta AMT liftback

The main secret of living together with Granta is to accept her as she is. There is no need to stomp on the right pedal in the hope of making the liftback go faster. Even the rated 13.3 seconds acceleration time to 100 km/h seems somewhat optimistic, and with three adults and small luggage on board, completely unrealistic. Only fuel consumption increases to crossover values. If you are not in a hurry, then Granta begins to consume a liter and a half less, the steering wheel settings cease to be intimidating, and driving begins to bring pleasure. After all, at speeds of up to 100 km/h, this Lada is very comfortable by budget class standards. Thanks to good sound insulation and excellent ride comfort.

The second reason to love the Granta Liftback is cargo transportation. The trunk is neat, although not of a record size, and there are not enough hooks and loops in it, but compared to the Hyundai Solaris and KIA Rio, it is still much more convenient. It’s just that Vesta SW taught us that cargo-passenger Ladas are almost Skoda in their thoughtfulness. The main irritant is the rigidly fixed shelf, which needs to be removed with a screwdriver, but it did not interfere with the transportation of four winter wheels. Moreover, unlike the Priora, the folding mechanism no longer requires unnecessary effort. And the pillow reclines easily, and the backrest folds with a slight movement of the hand, and the headrests are removed without jamming. Alas, tall drivers will have to make room. I (height 186 cm) had to move the driver’s seat forward a couple of clicks so that the pillow stood vertically and the back rested “on the horizon.” However, after the sofa was laid down, the seat was able to be moved back a click.

And then in Moscow they began to massively change the asphalt and curb stones. Moreover, in keeping with the fashion of recent years, the asphalt was removed, and a new one was installed only a week later. And all this week the capital was flooded with powerful downpours. The worse the streets next to my house became, the more I loved Granta. And the next day, jumping over protruding hatches and gullies in the road cushion, I realized the point of the Lada Granta in Moscow. You don't give a damn. At all. In the capital, cars from Togliatti are much less popular with car thieves than Kia Rio, Hyundai Solaris and Volkswagen Polo, and the police haven’t stopped me even once in a month.

At the same time, Lada is cheaper than most competitors. The cheapest Granta is a sedan in the Standard configuration with an 8-valve 1.6 engine producing 87 hp. and mechanics will cost 434,900 rubles. Similar hatchback and liftback already cost 451,900 rubles. The station wagon is another 10,000 rubles more expensive, and for the Cross version the base version is the more expensive Classic package, so the price starts at 554,900 rubles.

For the liftback with an 8-valve engine, four more trim levels are available: Classic (RUB 485,500), Classic Optima (RUB 511,500), Comfort (RUB 531,500) and Luxe (RUB 569,500). Cars with a 16-valve 1.6 engine with 106 hp. available starting from the third Comfort configuration (RUB 546,500). Also, the most powerful “Grants” at the moment can be obtained in the Luxe (RUB 584,800) and Luxe Prestige (RUB 603,800) versions. The latter is not available not only for the base engine, but also for the version with an automatic transmission, like ours. A car with a Japanese Jatco automatic transmission can only be purchased in Comfort (RUB 601,500) and Luxe (RUB 639,800) trim levels.

Lada Granta Liftback. Review

The cost of the Lada Granta Liftback in 2020 was 571,200 rubles , and in 2020 the cost increased by 15,000 and now amounts to 586,200 rubles . However, the price for the full set of options that the Lada is equipped with remains acceptable. What do we get for this money? In addition to the standard set of options - heated front seats, central locking, the package includes more interesting functions:

— navigation and Bluetooth connection;

— multimedia represented by a 7-inch touch screen ;

— rain and light indicators;

— electric windows;

— cruise control, climate control;

— ABS, EBD, ESC;

— airbags.

In general, the car's interior looks pretty good.

As for the information content of the dashboard, everything is provided in the Lada Granta. The top window is for setting cruise control data. Control is carried out using the steering column lever on the right side.

The Intelma multimedia does not raise any questions at first acquaintance, but during operation one significant disadvantage will be revealed - you will have to turn off the system manually. For some reason, the developer made the multimedia autonomous. Consumer complaints and requests to correct this issue did not bother AvtoVAZ employees.

The appearance of the Lada Granta Liftback is worthy of praise . The car, thanks to its modern design, streamlined shape, 15-inch alloy wheels and correct headlights, looks worth its price, or even more.

You can admire the car from the outside endlessly, until you try to open the door. The tight handle prevents this. The driver's seat is located high and uncomfortable, and you won't be able to move it up or down. A similar situation occurred with the steering wheel. Its position can only be changed by 35 mm, which is quite small.

The disadvantages of Liftback include a large number of albeit minor, but unpleasant things:
