Immobilizer for Lada Granta: activation, blinking and deactivation
The immobilizer of the Lada Grant and any other car is a special anti-theft device that does not allow the engine to start. Motorists use it very rarely, even if the Lada Granta immobilizer is included, while others simply do not know about the existence of such a device. But safety cannot be neglected, and that is why all owners of Lada Granta, without exception, should be sure to familiarize themselves with the design and operating principle of this module.
The moment the driver inserts the ignition key, the Lada Granta immobilizer is identified using a code. If there is a match, there are no obstacles to starting the engine and you can start moving. Otherwise, the car will be locked until the correct code is received. There is one important disadvantage of using this device - if the Lada Granta immobilizer breaks down, then it will be possible to start the car only after repairing or replacing the module. In such a situation, the old code is deleted from the controller and new code is written. So, if the immobilizer is blinking, you should think about it and pay attention to it.
At the car dealership, the Lada Granta immobilizer is activated during the pre-sale preparation procedure under the supervision of the future owner. If the buyer refuses to use this function, then this is entered into the service documents, where it is certified by the seal of the car dealership and the signature of the buyer.
Two ignition keys on a Lada Granta car
The first is suitable for everyday use and can be supplemented with a remote control device. This key removes the engine lock. This means it deactivates the immobilizer of the Lada Grant.
The second one is necessary for training the Lada Grant immobilizer. Where is the immobilizer located? Usually marked with a red mark. It is suitable not only for starting the internal combustion engine and making changes to the engine blocker settings, but is also designed to control the blocking of all doors without exception. This key should be used only in extreme cases and kept in a safe place. If the training key is lost, the dealer will not service the anti-theft system under warranty.
A detailed algorithm for reconfiguring the immobilizer
First of all, you need to close all the interior doors and insert the so-called training “red” key and activate the engine ignition. If the indicator glows steadily, it means that the training procedure should be carried out. Next, you need to turn off the ignition and wait until the immobilizer flashes. Remove the “red” key and immediately insert the regular one, turn on the ignition as usual. At the same time, you will first hear three short beeps in a row, and after a short period of time a couple more. Then turn off the ignition again and reinsert the first training key - three short beeps must sound in the same way and after the same two short beeps. Turn off the ignition and do not remove the learning key. This will be followed by one short signal, and the indicator will quickly and quickly flash. Turn the ignition on and off again, after which 3 beeps will sound and the indicator will turn off completely. Now you can remove the training first “red” key and use the usual one to test start the engine. This is how the immobilizer for Lada Granta works.

How to train the key of a Lada Priora, Kalina, Grant (activation of the standard immobilizer)
APS-6 is a standard anti-theft device for Lada Priora/Kalina/Granta cars. On Luxe trim levels the standard immobilizer is activated from the factory, but on simpler versions you have to do it yourself. The article provides instructions for learning the key and activating the immobilizer.
The delivery set includes 3 keys: 2 black “working” keys (hereinafter referred to as RK ) and a red “master key” (hereinafter referred to as MK ) for training the system. The indicator lamp (hereinafter referred to as CL ) signals the programming state. Its rapid flashing (5 times per second) indicates that the learning procedure is being performed correctly. Stopping fast flashing means:
- wrong action;
- exceeding the time provided for completing the training procedure;
- malfunction;
- This RK has already been trained by another immobilizer (does not fit the ECU).
Immobilizer Lada Granta: review, advantages
Despite the fact that the Lada Granta occupies the segment of budget cars, it still costs a lot of money, and no one wants to lose it in case of theft. In addition, any car in inexperienced hands is a source of increased danger, which can threaten the thief driver, passengers and pedestrians with serious trouble. To avoid possible problems, various anti-theft means are installed on cars.
The main elements are an alarm and an immobilizer. Each of these devices has both advantages and disadvantages. The alarm system provides the car owner with some additional options that increase comfort, for example, opening only the driver's side door or only the trunk, auto start, which allows you to start the car to warm up without leaving home. But the alarm system only notifies the car owner about penetration, while the immobilizer directly prevents theft.
An immobilizer is an electronic controller that blocks the car's engine from starting if the ignition was not performed with the original key. A chip is integrated into the ignition key that sends an identification code for the owner of the car to the electronic control unit every time you try to start the engine.
Activation of the electronic anti-theft device
The Lada Granta immobilizer is installed on all models, starting with the standard configuration. The Granta became one of the first domestically produced cars to be standardly equipped with an immobilizer. And the first problem that the owner of a new Grant faces after he finds out what the “immobilizer” is for is activating the anti-theft device. As a rule, the controller is activated by specialists from the car sales center in the presence of the owner.
If the buyer refuses to activate the immobilizer, a note about this is written in the service book. When the owner, some time after purchasing the car, changes his mind and decides to activate the device, he will have to do it himself. The main thing is to strictly follow the activation algorithm to avoid possible problems. Lada Granta is delivered to the owner with a set of keys, including two for the ignition, one of them is marked in black, the other in red.
The black key is used for everyday use; it must be entered into the immobilizer memory for smooth engine starting. The red key, the so-called training key, is designed to enter the initial code into the controller’s memory. After activation has taken place, it should be hidden in a safe place and taken out only when necessary. If the red key is lost, all warranty obligations of the seller become void.
Activation is carried out with the car doors closed; there should be no keys in the ignition. You must insert the red key and turn on the ignition. Wait 6 seconds. If everything is done correctly, the red immobilizer light should blink on the dashboard. After this, the owner has six seconds to pull out the red key, insert the black one and turn on the ignition with its help. The “immobilizer” should beep, first three, then two more.
If this does not happen, you need to start all over again. When everything is correct, the black key changes to red within 6 seconds. The beeps should repeat: three, then two. They (red) turn on the ignition, after which a single sound signal should follow. Turn off the ignition and within 6 seconds turn it on again for 2-3 seconds. Turn off the ignition, the red key remains in the lock. After three beeps and one light sound, 10 seconds count down and the red key is removed.
To check whether activation was successful, you need to start the engine with both keys. If the immobilizer indicator does not light up on the dashboard, it means that everything went well and it is activated.
Alarm compatibility and immobilizer problems
Often, Lada Granta car owners want to create an entire anti-theft system on their car or simply be able to use additional alarm options for comfort. One of the most popular alarm features is engine auto-start. But what to do if the immobilizer does not allow you to turn on the engine without the key in the ignition?
You can either leave it inside, or take a different route and create an immobilizer bypass unit. The immobilizer bypass must be in the car and contain a decoding chip; one of the keys or their chips must always be in the car's interior. Experts recommend making an additional key specifically for autostart.
The bypass block is activated only during an autostart attempt. If you plan to start driving without the main key in the ignition, the engine will be locked. It should be remembered that the use of a remote-controlled alarm system significantly increases the cost of CASCO insurance.
Everyone has long known that technology is imperfect; even the latest developments in the field of electronics can fail during operation. You can often see drivers on the highway with emergency lights and a squealing alarm - the car has stalled, and the immobilizer has failed and does not allow the engine to start.
One of the most significant disadvantages of an electronic anti-theft device is the total blocking of all vehicle systems for no apparent reason or the loss of certain functions. For example, window regulators and an electronic control unit fail. After several unsuccessful attempts to activate the controller, the car stops responding to the keys.
The easiest way to resolve such problems is to disable the immobilizer. This is doable, although you may run into the claim that the controller is activated once and for all. You can disable the “immobilizer” only if you have a red key containing a code. There are software methods for disabling it, but you should not use them yourself, as they require special skills, knowledge and technical support.
In any case, the shortcomings of the electronic anti-theft device are compensated by its usefulness. Safety is not something that can be neglected, and if the standard Lada Granta immobilizer does not suit drivers for any reason, you can always find alternative options.

This is the most primitive way to disable the immobilizer. To be precise, this is not a shutdown, this is its “destruction.”

Why is an immobilizer needed in Lada Granta?
Most cars are equipped with a special standard system that prevents theft, equipped with a remote control as an addition. The system includes an anti-theft device control unit, a remote system, a remote control combined with the ignition key, as well as a special coding device and sensors responsible for opening and closing doors.
In the area of the engine compartment there is a sensor that opens the hood; there are special devices in the door locks, thanks to which the doors operate smoothly or are blocked.
The immobilizer sensor in the Lada Granta is located in the switch or, in other words, the ignition switch, the control lamp is located in the instrument panel. It is necessary to take into account that the control panel is activated only after the immobilizer has been activated.
The car has a special electric door lock. It is located in the side door locks. After the alarm is turned on, all four doors in the vehicle are simultaneously blocked. You should press the button on the Lada Grant once, and the alarm will be activated; if you press it twice, it should be turned off, and the driver can easily open the door and get behind the wheel of his car.
Concept of a locking system
An immobilizer is a special type of device, the main function of which is to block unauthorized activation. In other words, such a system will protect against theft of a vehicle, namely the Lada Grant. There is a small chip in the ignition key; once you activate it, a code is sent to identify the owner and the engine starts. The control program is designed so that the vehicle’s protection is activated once, that is, it is not possible to return everything back.
It should be noted that the immobilizer is a device that is able to identify its own lock, as well as control the supply of fuel, steering, engine power, and gearbox shifts. It quickly triggers and instantly “locks” the vehicle from an ill-wisher if the set parameters do not correspond to the specified ones at all (mostly we are talking about a password, but many car models can only respond to the fingerprints of the owner).
When purchasing a travel assistant, an employee in the cabin with the owner activates the immobilizer. If the owner does not want to connect it, then this is written down in the service book in case of disagreements and unforeseen situations on the part of the buyer.
If in a year he wants to turn it on, he will have to carry out a certain algorithm of actions. The owner will have two devices to open the car, one is black and the other is painted scarlet. The first one is necessary in order to turn on the ignition in the Lada Granta, the red one helps with entering the primary one, it must be hidden in a safe place so as not to be accidentally lost and taken only in case of emergency. If the red key is lost, the vehicle warranty received from the car dealership becomes invalid.
Equipment
The Lada Granta is equipped with two keys, the black one is considered the main and working one. In addition, it may also have a special remote control, which helps to remove the start ban. It is necessary to power the vehicle.
Red acts as a trainer. Its main functions are to operate the vehicle, as well as the training mode of the protection and door locking system.
Is it possible to do without an immobilizer?
There is an opinion that such a device is buggy in most cases, but this is hard to believe, since they almost never break down, unless, of course, they were installed by an experienced specialist. Remember that with its help you can protect your car from theft, although you should not be 100% sure of such security, since risks still exist.
Activation rules
Before this process, it is important to close the car doors and remove the keys from the ignition and wait six seconds. If nothing is forgotten and all actions are performed in a synchronized sequence, you can pay attention to how the red light starts and lights up, the immobilizer indicates the correctness of the actions. After this, the owner has no more than seven seconds to remove this key and replace it with a black one in the ignition. It is important that sound signals are emitted during this process. If this is not observed, the entire procedure must be started again.
Anti-theft and signaling device
Many car enthusiasts, in particular Lada Granta owners, at the same time plan to make their vehicle universal, which means they plan to connect an alarm system in addition to the immobilizer, but won’t this lead to problems? It should be borne in mind that thanks to the latter, the engine starts automatically. What to do if the immobilizer does not allow you to turn on the engine without using the appropriate key?
There are several basic options, for example, do not remove it and let it be there permanently. But be that as it may, it is important that the immobilizer and the crawler in it are located in the car and have a special decoding chip. Many people recommend making a duplicate key so that it is always nearby.
The bypass block comes into effect when the transport starts. In the event that the vehicle is activated without a key, the engine is blocked. We must not forget that the simultaneous use of alarm and control significantly increases the price of CASCO insurance.
It is a well-known fact that equipment sometimes malfunctions at certain and most inopportune moments, and most new products break down, and the Lada Granta is no exception. For example, on the highway you can meet unfortunate drivers who find themselves in an unpleasant situation: the car does not start because the protection is blocked and there is no help for them, especially if they are far from the city limits.
Disadvantages of an immobilizer
The main disadvantage of this anti-theft device is considered to be blocking of the main components of the vehicle, or partial inability to control it (turning off turns, headlights, etc.). If you try to activate the controller several times in a row, the Lada Granta does not perceive it and stops working completely. The driver is completely confused and does not know what to do next.
In this case, you just need to disable the immobilizer. There is nothing difficult about this, although there may be problems with the controller. If there is a red key, then there will be no problems with disabling the “immobilizer”, since it contains a certain code. There are programs associated with disabling them, but it is not recommended to carry out such repairs on your own, and it is better to trust a specialist.
In contrast to the disadvantages, there are useful properties of the anti-theft agent, which will help protect the peace and sleep of its owner. If you have lost your Lada Grant password, you should not despair; it is enough to purchase a new one and re-learn your car.
It goes like this. The key is inserted into the ignition. If there is no sound signal on the buzzer and the indicator is flashing quickly, it is important to turn off the ignition in a timely manner and perform the training again. If, after repeated repetitions, it is still not possible to carry out detailed and complete training, then the problem is a malfunction or the training key is simply incompatible with the ECU.
How to replace batteries in the remote control.
The remote control contains elements of the CR2032 type; to remove them, you must press any button to open the contents of the compartment. It is important that at this time the special indicator on the remote control lights up, but if it does not light up or turns on and off, then this indicates a problem with the batteries. Now we arm ourselves with a Phillips screwdriver with a small blade, which will help connect the housings on the remote control. Next, we pick up the remote control for the Lada Grant and begin to carefully separate the body into parts to see its filling.
After this, you should remove the damaged battery and install a new one, paying attention to the polarity so that the immobilizer can work correctly. After this, it is necessary to remove parts of the remote control housing until the latches snap into place and are completely closed.

If it is not possible to make an emergency diagnosis, you can apply the following troubleshooting algorithm:

1. Check if the chip from the original key has been lost. Perhaps a child dropped the key, then collected it, the chip rolled somewhere. To do this, you need to disassemble the original key.

4. If there is no duplicate, you need to make sure that the chip is working. Its firmware may crash randomly. This operation will require special equipment. You can use the services of car key duplicate manufacturers; this service is inexpensive. The key is placed in the field of the coil and the code is read. If the chip is not working, the code is not displayed, the chip must be replaced.
p, blockquote 37,0,0,0,0 –> adsp-pro-2 –>
5. The next step is checking the pump loop. To do this, you can use a homemade loop with an LED connected to it. It is placed in the operating area of the pumping loop located on the ignition switch. When there is a polling signal, the LED will blink.

p, blockquote 39,0,0,1,0 –>
The loop can be “ringed” using a multimeter; its resistance is usually in the range from 20 to 500 Ohms. A broken loop or short circuit leads to a failure to read the code; the loop must be repaired or replaced.
p, blockquote 40,0,0,0,0 –>
6. The next stage of testing is monitoring the voltages supplied to the immobilizer unit. Usually it receives a negative power bus, plus 12 Volts on bus 30 (constantly) and +12 Volts on bus 15 (via the ignition switch). The pinout of the immobilizer unit may be different, but these voltages must still be supplied. If they are missing, it is necessary to check all fuses (if it is not known which ones are responsible for supplying power to the immobilizer). As a rule, they are located in the interior fuse box.
p, blockquote 41,0,0,0,0 –>
7. Proceed in the same way when checking voltages in the power supply circuits of the engine control unit. This is easier to do, since it is easier to find the fuses responsible for its operation.
p, blockquote 42,0,0,0,0 –>
8. Sometimes, if the engine fails to start, temporarily disconnecting the battery terminals (for at least 15 minutes) helps.

immobilizer activation
Immobilizer is a vehicle's anti-theft system, a device to prevent engine starting. Many drivers either do not use it, even if their car has it, or do not even know about it. But safety is not something that should be neglected, so Lada Granta owners should familiarize themselves with the operating principles of such a useful device.
When the driver uses the ignition key, the immobilizer is identified in the controller using its code every time the engine is started. If the code is correct, there will be no obstacles to the operation of the motor; if there is a discrepancy, a lock will be activated. The only significant disadvantage of the immobilizer is that if it fails, you will not be able to start the car until the broken device is repaired. In this case, the old immobilizer code must be deleted and a new one written to the controller. When purchasing a Lada Granta, the immobilizer is activated at the points where the car is prepared for sale, in the presence of the future owner. If the buyer refuses this procedure, an entry should be made in the service documents, certified by the signature and seal of the seller, as well as the signature of the owner of the purchased vehicle.
Lada Granta is equipped with two ignition keys:
The first one , marked in black, is working. It can be equipped with a remote control. This key removes the prohibition from starting the engine. It is used for normal everyday driving.
The second , marked in red, is a training key.
It not only removes the prohibition from starting the engine, but also turns on the training mode for the electronic immobilizer and door lock control system. It is strongly recommended that you use it only when necessary and store it in a safe place. If you lose the training key, warranty service for your anti-theft system ceases to be a headache for the dealer. Here is a brief algorithm for training the immobilizer and a detailed one. You should start by using the training key.
Make sure all doors are closed and insert the key marked in red into the ignition device and activate it. The indicator will light up with a constant light - this means that the immobilizer has not been trained. Now you need to turn off the ignition, the signal will then flash. Change the learning key to a regular one and turn on the ignition again: you will hear three beeps, then two more. The ignition must be turned off again. Next, instead of a black key, a red one is used again. After switching on, three and then two beeps will sound. Turn off, leaving the training key. One beep will follow and the indicator will flash rapidly. The ignition must be turned on and off again. After this, three sounds will sound and the indicator will go off. We change the red key to black. Ready. If the procedure is carried out correctly, you can begin a test run of the engine. grantaremont.ru
How to activate the immobilizer on a Lada Grant yourself: photos and videos
Dealers do not like to activate the immobilizer on new domestic cars. There are several reasons for this.
Reasons why the standard immobilizer is not activated
- Just lazy.
- Some people demand money for it and don’t want to do it for free.
- Other dealers do not want to activate it, because then, when installing an alarm system with auto start, they will have to perform the “immobilizer bypass” procedure, which brings additional difficulties.
- Some argue that this operation may cause problems with starting the car. A strong argument here is that dealers claim that after activating the immobilizer, the Lada Granta can stall at any time. Then we can suggest not to lock the doors yet, they may not open at any time.
Please note that in the list of pre-sale work there is an item on the basis of which the car's immobilizer must be activated, regardless of what engine (more about engines here) and what equipment.
How to find out if the immobilizer is activated?
This should not be confused with the “check engine” icon, which also lights up when you turn the ignition key. This icon does not go out until you start the engine. Learn more about why your check engine light may come on here.
If this icon is lit, it means the immobilizer is not activated.
If, when starting the car, the “car with key” icon lights up and goes out after a while, then the immobilizer is disabled! This is a direct threat to the safety of your car.
Instructions for activating the immobilizer
- Close all doors by pressing the button (door lock button).
- Turn on the ignition with the RED key and wait 9-10 seconds.
- Pull out the key . The “car with key” icon should blink 5 times per second.
- Quickly (within 5-6 seconds) turn on the ignition BLACK. There will be 3 beeps + 2 beeps.
- Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
- Quickly (within 5-6 seconds) while the “car with key” is blinking, turn on the RED ignition. There will be 3 beeps + 2 beeps.
- Turn off the ignition. 1 beep will sound.
- Quickly (within 5-6 seconds) turn on the ignition for 2-3 SECONDS !
- Turn off the ignition . THE KEY IS IN THE LOCK. 3 beeps will sound + the “car with key” icon goes out. We do not remove the key.
- Remove the key.
To check the operation of the immobilizer, simply start the car and see if the “car with key” icon lights up. If it is not lit, then the immobilizer is activated!
Immobilizer activated
You can also remove the tag from the key and try to start the car. The immobilizer should not allow the car to start.
It may seem complicated at first glance, but in reality everything is simple. I got it right the first time. The video below shows my activation process.
If the engine does not start even with the tag, then there may be problems with the immobilizer itself or there are problems with the engine control system.

Location of the immobilizer on the VAZ-2114
Location of the APS-4 immobilizer on the car
The fact is that the Tolyatti designers who created the “four” mocked the consumer by installing an ECU and an immobilizer under the pipes of the car’s heater system . Thus, if the tightness of the system is broken, they must be filled with antifreeze.
What is an immobilizer and why is it criticized?
Since the beginning of the 2000s, an automobile anti-theft system (APS) has been installed on all injection engines produced in Tolyatti.
Initially, the first “tens” were equipped with APS-4 , but they were soon replaced by more modern APS-6 .
The standard anti-theft system is otherwise called an immobilizer.
The meaning of the system is as follows: an attempt to steal a car will end in nothing. The attacker will not be able to start the engine, and if he does start it, then after driving a few hundred meters the fuel supply will stop and the engine will stall.
The idea is good, but there are a number of problems that arise during its operation:
- Software failure . The electronics does not see the update of information supplied by the ignition key or does not recognize it. There were cases when, having stopped and turned off the engine, it was no longer possible to start it.
- Engine blocking due to low battery . Leaving your car in a parking lot for several days in winter can accidentally activate the system.
- Serious problems when connecting an alarm system with auto start.
- Breakdown, contact closure due to poor location .
Interesting! The first injection VAZ-2114 were produced either without APS, or with an unconnected unit dangling inside on its own wiring. Nobody knows what this was due to (savings, lack of equipment or another reason), but the fact remains.
Troubleshooting
In the case when a car with an active immobilizer does not communicate with the computer, you need to know the following: the K-Line wire connects the diagnostic connector and the APS. Only then does the power enter the electronic control unit.
In the event of a malfunction, you need to make sure that the system is connected to the correct connector. If the result is positive, you can try to disconnect it and bridge the 9th and 18th contacts .
This will result in a direct connection between the ECU and the diagnostic connector, bypassing the anti-theft system.
In case of malfunctions related to the operation of the immobilizer, it is necessary to take into account the fact that this is a complex electronic device. Therefore, to troubleshoot it, it is recommended to contact a professional auto electrician.
Important! In the event of breakdowns associated with its operation, you need to know that restoring functioning after the intervention of unskilled hands can be difficult, and in some cases completely impossible.
Deactivation and activation (pros and cons)
The Bosch ECU on the VAZ-2114 came complete with an APS-4 immoblizer
When deciding whether to deactivate the immobilizer or not, you need to know the following. APS-6 or 4, although it has a number of significant drawbacks, it really counteracts hooligans who may decide to ride in a car parked near the entrance. The alarm does not turn off the engine and fuel system.
The anti-theft system of the 6th series, on the contrary, turns off the power to the fuel injectors (the 4th turns off the fuel pump and glow plugs). Therefore, it’s up to you to decide whether to connect it after the next glitch or not. But at least, if they decide to steal a car, then they will need their own ECU; you can’t take the car with your bare hands.

Where is the immobilizer unit located and how to change it
Very often, Kalina owners are interested in the location of the immobilizer unit (standard anti-theft system). And in fact, finding it is not quite easy, because it is specially hidden in a secret place for completely understandable reasons. If you need to disconnect or change this electrical element in the event of a breakdown, then below I will carefully describe where it is located and how to remove it.
I’ll say right away that the task of removing the immobilizer is quite disgusting and you will have to suffer a little. Immobilizer on Priora - where is it located and how. Here is a list of devices that will make this task a little easier:
- Phillips screwdriver, regular length
- Figured bat
- Small extension and universal joint
- Vorotok
In the photo below I immediately show the assembled “device”, with the help of which I was able to unscrew everything, and even then, not without effort.
Now let's talk about everything in order, I will try to carefully outline the function of removing the block. Be sure to disconnect the battery before attempting this repair.
And a little further, behind the stove controls you will see the position of the immobilizer, which is screwed on both sides with small bolts, such a small dark box, approximately 5x10 cm in size or a little larger. Better see how it looks live, in the picture below it is marked with yellowish arrows:
Activating the immobilizer on a Lada Granta car
Most Lada Granta cars go to owners with an inactivated immobilizer. And this is a straight line.
Lada Granta Liftback standard immobilizer (LADA GRANTA chronicles)
Judging by the reaction of the salon employees and the fact that they apologized to us many times, the impression was created.
Now unscrew one mounting bolt on each side. As I said above, I couldn’t do this with a regular screwdriver because I don’t have any free space. Therefore, I had to assemble a small but effective structure from several tools.
Since the immobilizer block is not tightly screwed on, it is enough to simply remove the bolts, making half a turn or less. And then just unscrew everything without any keys. I did this: I held the nut with my left hand, and unscrewed the “screw” with my right hand.
We do the same on the second side. And then we remove the APS from its original place and disconnect the power plug from the unit.
There is a small plastic clamp that you need to press a little and at the same time pull the plug with the wires. In my case, this was problematic to do, so I pryed it out with a flat-head screwdriver, slightly moving it out of place. And then I just pulled it in the direction with a little effort.
This is what this part looks like after removal from Kalina:
Judging by the sticker, the model is APS-6 from Itelm. If replacement is necessary, installation is performed in reverse order.
Does Grant have an immobilizer?
When choosing a future car, many people wonder what anti-theft systems it will be equipped with. One of the most popular such devices today is an immobilizer. This type of anti-theft electronic device literally means “immobilizer” in English.
The principle of operation of the immobilizer
This device is equipped with a function that allows it to break electrical circuit connections in the most important places in the car’s electrical system, such as the ignition system, starter, and the engine itself. When it is activated, you can be sure that the vehicle will definitely not leave its parking lot. Even if the thief is able to open the door and get inside, the car will simply not be able to start.
If you add a couple of additional devices to this anti-theft system, for example, solenoid valves, then you can also block the operation of other, non-electrical systems of the car.
The owner of such a car uses a code key to activate and deactivate the car. If this password is known only to the owner of the car, it is simply impossible to steal it. Therefore, under no circumstances should you give the key to the system to anyone. Usually an electronic key is used, but in rare cases there may be a system with manual dialing of numbers.
To start the engine, you will first need to insert the code key and disable the immobilizer or enter the code combination in the manual system.
If the immobilizer on the Lada Granta is somehow damaged or destroyed, or an unauthorized entry into its system is detected during an electronic hacking attempt using a computer, the car’s engine will remain blocked.
If you turn off the engine but do not activate the immobilizer, it will do it itself after a certain period of time, which you can select yourself. This is very convenient, since sometimes the owner may simply forget to put his car on the anti-theft alarm.
Is there a standard immobilizer installed on the Grant?
So is the Lada Granta equipped with this wonderful anti-theft system at the factory or not? Or will you have to install it yourself after purchase? The answer to this question can even be found on Wikipedia. According to the free encyclopedia, the most economical model of the Lada Granta, the Standard, does not have an immobilizer .
I would like to share my personal experience in this article, since I am writing it for a reason, but as the owner of this “Standard”. Although I clarified this issue with the salesperson at the showroom, I was informed that there was nothing of the kind in the car. And they gave me two ignition keys with one interesting nuance that I didn’t pay attention to at first. One had a red chip, the other had a black one. For some reason it was impossible to keep them together in one bundle, and I chalked it up to some marketing troubles of the salon. On the first trip, using the “red” key first, I got out near the store. When I returned, I started the engine with the black key and a small and unknown icon appeared on the panel - a car and a key. When the car started, he disappeared. I did this algorithm a couple of times and every time this orange machine popped up. I dialed a car dealership. I was told that everything was in order and it didn’t mean anything, however, as a meticulous person, I returned to my home and searched through all the pages of the Internet in search of an answer.
As it turned out, I guessed right about the marketing ploy, although I didn’t initially understand what it was. Here's a secret - an immobilizer is installed on all Lada Granta models. It’s just that the availability of it in the cheapest ones is usually not reported. Like, if you want reliable protection for your car, buy our more expensive products.
