According to the manufacturer's recommendation, conventional spark plugs should be replaced every 30,000 km or 2 years, whichever comes first.
Spark plugs with platinum or iridium electrode coating must be replaced every 60,000 km or 4 years. To replace, you only need two keys: a 10mm spanner to unscrew the ignition coils, and a 16mm spark plug wrench. The outer diameter of the key must be less than 21.7 mm, otherwise the key will not fit into the spark plug well. It is also advisable to buy a key with a magnetic or plastic lock. The key for a 16 valve VAZ is ideal.

1. A set of spark plugs is required, in our case it is NGK BKR6E-11:

2. Remove 2 blocks from the low-voltage inputs of the ignition coils (indicated by a green circle):

3. Using a 10mm wrench, unscrew the 4 bolts securing the ignition coils:

4. Pull out the tip of the high-voltage wire from 1 well into the cylinder head covers:

5. Pull out the tip together with the ignition coil from well 4 into the cylinder head covers:

6. Next, you need to do similar to the previous two steps with the second and third wells:

7. We put the removed ignition coils with high-voltage wires away:

8. Next, using a spark plug wrench, unscrew the old spark plug from 1 well. You need a key with a plastic or magnetic lock to easily remove the spark plug from the well. But if you don’t have such a key, don’t worry, you can first unscrew the spark plug and then use the rubber spark plug tip to remove it from the well.

Replacing the ignition coil Mitsubishi Lancer 9

The ignition coils on the Mitsubishi Lancer 9 last quite a long time, provided that the spark plugs are replaced in a timely manner. Unlike other cars, where each cylinder has its own coil, Lancer 9 has only 2 coils for 4 cylinders. In addition to the coils themselves, tips can fail, as well as spark plug wires, which over time can begin to “punch through”.

Signs of faulty ignition coils

The exact malfunction can only be determined using computer diagnostics, which will indicate faulty parts, but by the characteristic signs you can determine for yourself what is broken.

For example, when driving smoothly, after sharply pressing the gas pedal, the car begins to twitch and what is called “stupid” without developing power. In some cases, the Check light on the dashboard may light up. These signs indicate that there may be a problem with the ignition coil, wires or tips.

The engine may stall or run unstably at idle; this may also be one of the reasons for the malfunction of the ignition coils.

Which coil to choose for replacement

Mitsubishi MD362903 coil was installed from the factory . Its price at the moment is more than 5,000 rubles per piece. You can, of course, purchase it and replace it, or you can choose a cheaper analogue.

  • Delphi GN10450-12B1 from 1900 RUR
  • Denso DIC01-07 from 3900 RUR
  • ERA 880.190 from 1500 RUR
  • Masuma MIC300 from 1700 rub.
  • NGK 48 225 from 3200 RUR

All the above coils are analogues of the original one. However, before purchasing coils, we advise you to check with the seller again whether the coil is suitable for your motor.

When replacing the coil, we also advise you to pay attention to the tips and spark plug wires. It is better to change them together with the coil.

After dismantling the old coil and wires, we recommend checking them with a multimeter. In general, the ideal option is to dismantle the old coil and wires, check them, and only then, after identifying faulty components, purchase and replace them. Of course, if you want to change everything completely, then checking is not necessary.

So, we disconnect the wire blocks from the two coils. The blocks are gray; to disconnect them from the coil, you need to press the latch and pull the block towards you.

What is needed for replacement

You will need a long 16mm spark plug wrench with a magnet.

Replacing spark plugs is carried out with two keys:

  1. Socket wrench 10 . Used to unscrew the ignition coil.
  2. Candlestick at 16 . Needed for removing and installing spark plugs.

Experts advise buying a spark plug wrench with a plastic or magnetic retainer . The ideal solution would be a spark plug from a 16-valve VAZ .

Many motorists are faced with a problem when the spark plug key simply does not fit into the well. To prevent this from happening, you need to choose a candlestick with a smaller outer diameter (about 22 mm less than required). If the key does not fit into the spark plug well, you can lubricate it with a small layer of oil.

The photo shows that the walls of the spark plug keys vary in thickness.

Algorithm

  1. We find two low-voltage inputs of the ignition coils. They have connectors installed that need to be removed. This is done without any tools or excessive effort - lightly press from above and pull to the side.

Remove the 2 ignition coil terminals.

Using a 10 mm socket, unscrew the 4 bolts securing the coils.

Remove the ignition coils one by one.

After dismantling the wire coils, free access to the spark plugs opens.

  • Fuel consumption:

I have had bad experiences with Finwhale suppositories. I changed the spark plugs on my car, at first everything was fine, but then the speed began to jump, the car began to stall. I searched for the reason for a long time, I couldn’t even think of new spark plugs, but it turned out that the problem was in the spark plugs. I unscrewed the Finwhale spark plugs, but there was almost no deposit and spark on them. I replaced the spark plugs with a different brand, the problems disappeared and no deposits have formed yet.

I skated about 8 thousand on the old ones, now I decided to change them after flushing the injector. Mine didn’t look very good after 8000 km (for me personally). I ended up taking Boshevsky for 200 rubles. per piece, a friend sold them to me out of friendship for the purchase of 150 rubles. a piece. I immediately noticed the difference; the traction at the top was better.

As it turned out, the spark plugs that I changed about 10 thousand km ago failed... from now on I will not trust or recommend Denso...

  • Fuel consumption:

I bought K20TT spark plugs, since the previous spark plugs had already lasted more than 50 thousand km. In general, for some time now I installed spark plugs from this particular company on all my previous cars, I was convinced of their quality, but they have a lot of fakes! More than once I came across spark plugs that weren’t working. In general, I installed these spark plugs and immediately noticed: - the pickup at the bottom became much better (pleasant, since previously it was difficult to start the car from the bottom); - the engine began to run quieter, it felt like it had become it’s easier for him to breathe, especially at speed;—it started up better when cold;—BUT! for some reason the idle speed has become uneven, the engine does not shake, but a vibration has appeared that goes throughout the whole body (I still can’t understand what’s what).

Conclusion: overall satisfied, with the exception of vibration.

  • Fuel consumption:

I haven't been happy with fuel consumption lately, I'll keep an eye on it and for now I've started solving this issue with spark plugs. Based on many recommendations, my choice fell on the Denso Iridium K20PSR-B8. Denso Ik20 MN163236 departed 41,000 km. Consumption has dropped, before, when driving at 130-160 km/h, the computer showed from 11 to 12 liters, now at 160 km/h - 9.5! In quiet mode from 7.8 to 8.3! Very satisfied!

I took NGK 2687 FR6EI. The first ones were the well-known original NLCs - 65 thousand km. My NLCs passed the counterfeit test successfully, purebred original.

  • Durability:

The spark plugs were installed by Denso for 70 thousand km and worked well.

Replaced the spark plugs. Before this we had Bosch Super Plus, so I decided to test Yttrium. The heat rating on them is the same, and the engine feels and runs smoother. The most interesting thing is the price. If you buy a set (4 candles), then the price is 240 rubles, that is, 60 rubles. per candle, and if you take it individually, the price is 110 rubles. a piece))
