There may be several reasons for an alarm to not trigger correctly. If the problem is intermittent, then you should pay attention to the following factors:

The car is parked in a radio interference zone. In urban environments, there may be objects near the car that interfere with proper signal transmission. Some models such as A6, A61 or A8 are equipped with a special signal amplifier that solves this problem;
low battery charge. The car can receive signals from the key fob, but due to low voltage in the system, do not open the doors or do not autostart. This problem is clearly expressed after the car has been idle for a long time or at low temperatures. And it quickly disappears after regular trips, since the battery is constantly recharged;
wear and tear of car alarm parts. During operation, car alarm components are subject to wear and tear.

There are cases when the complex does not execute commands due to malfunctions of the control panel. Most often, the problem is a dead battery in the main key fob. Due to a weak signal, the dialogue code does not reach the radio transmitter or is distorted. Accordingly, the central processor cannot recognize it.

It is also worth remembering that in urban conditions the range of the key fob will significantly decrease due to the presence of numerous interference.

The Valet service key is important for the security system. With its help, you can enter programming mode, emergency shutdown of the system, or reset settings to factory settings. Reason No. 1 why it may not work on Starline A9 models and other kits is the lack of a physical connection, that is, a broken circuit.

To check, it is worth disconnecting the alarm unit from the car and inspecting it. There should be no cracks or mechanical damage on the body. Next, you need to ring using a circuit tester for the Valet button and LED. Most likely, this is the reason. After identifying poor contact or its absence, you should solder the wires and insulate the connection.

Owners of the Starline A94 system sometimes complain that the remote control does not respond to key presses. In this case, it is advisable to check whether the key fob button block is turned on by mistake. Entering this mode occurs by clicking on the second and fourth keys. After this, a short signal will sound and the display will show “Block”. Unlocking occurs after a short click on the first and fourth buttons.

Also, the reason for the lack of response (in addition to a dead remote control battery) may be faulty and sticky buttons. In this case, you need to disassemble the remote control (remove the back cover, remove the battery, and then unscrew the fastening bolt and disconnect the case) and clean the contact points of the buttons with the board. If this does not help, then you can order spare keys and install them in place of the old ones using a soldering kit.

Sensitivity adjustment is carried out using a standard screwdriver (there are two adjusting screws on the sensor body). They must be turned while tapping on the car body to determine the optimal sensitivity.

How to disable the service mode on the Starline alarm system

You can also turn off this option directly from the key fob. Disabling the service mode on Starline A39, A9, A91 or S96 models occurs after the owner presses the second key on the remote control for a long time (more than 3 seconds). In this case, the key fob will emit one melodic signal, and the car will blink its dimensions twice, confirming the successful deactivation of the mode. The wrench icon will no longer be active.

Step-by-step guide to disabling Valet mode

Activation is possible in two ways: using a secret button and using a key fob. To activate the button, you must perform the following sequence of actions:

open the car using the key (if the central locking does not work);

turn on and then turn off the ignition;

press the secret button for a certain time (usually more than 2 seconds);

an audio message from the siren, blinking of the indicator LED or blinking of the emergency or low beams confirm the activation of the service mode.

If the key is lost, the service mode can be activated within a short time after the doors are mechanically opened. In this case, the sequence of actions is:

with the help of special services or independently using generally accepted methods, open the car door;

immediately press the secret button (for some alarm models the number of presses may differ; it is better to familiarize yourself with the sequence of actions in an emergency situation in advance);

If the car continues to give an alarm signal of the siren, or the hidden button is not found, you should remove the battery terminal, find the VALET button, then reconnect the battery, immediately press the button.

Enabling the VALET mode using the key fob is carried out in the following sequence:

turn the ignition on and off;

wait more than 10 seconds;

simultaneously press two key fob buttons and hold them for a certain time.

For different models of car alarms and key fobs, the combination of buttons may be special. In many cases these are buttons 1 and 2, open and close, open and siren, and others.

Some car alarm models do not have the ability to enter service mode from the key fob.

If the service mode is turned on, the driver is notified about this by an audible signal or a two-way alarm key fob when turning the ignition on and off and starting the engine.

You enter the security system setup menu. To do this, you need to hold down one of the keys to activate the cursor selection of functional options. The button number depends on the model of the anti-theft complex.
The cursor then moves on the screen to the position of the indicator with a wrench and the inscription “Valet”. The user presses the button on the communicator with the open lock icon once. The security system siren will sound three times, and the external lighting devices will blink three times. This refers to hazard warning lights or side lights, depending on which optical elements the anti-theft complex is connected to. The communicator should emit a melodic signal.
The indicator with the letter Z should disappear on the key fob display. Often, after disabling the service mode, the turbo timer and immobilizer settings are lost, so they need to be restored.

Deactivation of the service mode using the example of the Alligator L430 alarm system:

The ignition system in the car is turned on and off.
The user presses a key and holds it for two seconds. This must be done within fifteen seconds after the ignition is turned off. If deactivation is performed using the remote control, the locked and unlocked keys are held for three seconds.
If the service mode is successfully deactivated, the alarm siren will sound twice. The system status LED should turn off.

On the Alligator C250, disabling the service mode is done as follows:

The driver gets into the car, activates and turns off the ignition system.
Within ten seconds after the last shutdown, the Valet button is pressed once.
The siren should beep twice and the LED indicator will stop blinking.

If you have a remote control, then deactivating the mode on the Alligator C250 is done as follows:

The driver gets into the car, the key in the lock is turned to the “ACC” position, and then immediately to “OFF” or “LOCK”.
Over the next ten seconds, the controls on the communicator are pressed with the lock open and the loudspeaker crossed out. These buttons must be held for 3 seconds.
To confirm, the siren will sound twice and the LED light will stop blinking.

In Sheriff ZX 750 systems, the mode is deactivated as follows:

The driver activates and deactivates the ignition.
Over the next five seconds, the Jack button is briefly pressed and released. There is no need to hold this element.
If the alarm status diode goes out, this indicates a transition to the service maintenance mode.

The Valet mode available in alarms represents a temporary limitation of the security functions of the system. The service mode that turns on allows you to set system operating parameters or ensure the safety of the car when transferred to a car service or car wash along with the ignition key.

Using a service center is important when servicing a car, as it provides a number of positive aspects:

car service employees do not receive information about the type and model of the installed system;
the serial number of the security system is not determined, which can be used by an attacker to select the code;
the algorithm for disarming the security mode is not communicated to outsiders (especially important when using a programmable PIN access code);
there is no need to hand over tags and key fobs to service employees.

After locating the block, it is necessary to study the direction of wiring harnesses.

If the Starline alarm system is programmed for silent operation, then the relay clicks will not be heard. In this case, you will have to search for the block manually.

In Pandora systems, an additional button for settings is located on the antenna module located on the windshield. There is also a standard hidden Valet key. Starline alarms have a similar button, but it is used to call the driver from the car.

Step-by-step instructions for turning off the alarm depending on the model

If the car engine does not start due to an alarm, an emergency shutdown of the anti-theft system occurs in several ways:

The process of disabling a car alarm using a code is as follows:

To disable the A61 model, you will have to enter a personal code using the same key - in the second stage, pressing it a number of times equal to the password digit.

In addition to disarming, Valet allows you to reset all programming settings of the alarm and M96 unit to factory settings. To do this, with the ignition off, press it 10 times, turn the ignition on and off, and then press Jack and the first key of the main key fob again. This action allows you to correct errors or reconfigure the system.

Functions of the jack button and how to use the button mechanism

A modern car alarm without a jack button is like a car without a steering mechanism. This miniature device will allow the driver to solve the following tasks:

emergency shutdown of the car alarm - if it cannot be turned off in the usual way;
car alarm programming;
turning off the siren in case of discharge or breakage of the key fob.

Security activation

In a number of Sheriff brand alarm systems, it is possible to arm the system with a service mode button. You don't need a key fob or key for this.

In order to enable security in the Sheriff ZX-940 complex, you must:

Briefly press and release the button.
Press the button again and hold it for several seconds until the sound signal sounds to activate the security mode.
Pay attention to the operation of the LED indicator, which will flash quickly. If all doors were closed before the button was manipulated, the system waits for the last door to open and close. If at least one door was open during the switching process, the alarm waits for it to close.
Leave the car and close the door. After the last door is closed, the full security mode will turn on. The time period after closing the door and before turning on the security mode is three seconds and cannot be changed by setting.

Deactivation of security

In Pantera or Sheriff systems, the button is used when disabling security using a PIN code:

Unlock the driver's door with the key and open it. The normal alarm mode will turn on.
Insert the key into the lock and turn the ignition on/off. The alarm mode is temporarily deactivated (on some models the siren will continue to operate).
The owner will have several tens of seconds (depending on the car alarm model) to get to the service button and press the first digit of the code.
Repeat the manipulation with the ignition switch and enter the second digit.
The third and fourth digits are entered in the same way (depending on the modification of the security system).
After entering the last digit, you must turn the ignition on/off again, which should deactivate the siren.
Try to start the engine.

If the code is entered incorrectly (for most systems, three attempts are given), the alarm is blocked for up to 30 minutes. After this, you can try to enter the password again.

Other functions

Using the Valet button in Sheriff systems, individual anti-robbery transponders are recorded into the memory. It is also needed when programming codes for new control panels. In addition, the Valet key allows you to bind an additional GSM module or configure keyless bypass of the standard immobilizer.

A simple DIY repair will involve simply changing the battery inside. It’s not difficult to understand what to do;
The main thing here is to choose the right battery or “pill” with the current expiration date;
do not confuse the declared polarity during such repairs;
if there is no new battery in the foreseeable vicinity, you can try to revive the old one yourself by slightly deforming it;
The functionality of the key fob in this case can be checked by the glow of its LED and how the car alarm itself reacts to the key fob;
if the previous key fob repair option did not give positive results, then you can use an auxiliary key fob without a display;
if the alarm system begins to respond normally to the key fob signal, then you can repair the main key fob yourself at home in a calm environment;

It is unlikely that you will be able to simply roll the car to the side - the car alarm will go off with all the ensuing consequences;
but it would be quite reasonable to use the “Valet” function of the car alarm. To the extent that you can carry out the necessary repairs at the nearest alarm service center.

How the button works

The button is used when the alarm is enabled or disabled. When you press a key, a command signal is generated that triggers certain functions. StarLine service mode management

When the service position is activated on the Starline A39, A63, A9, A96 or E90 alarm, some functions become unavailable to the owner. For example, in this position you can unlock or lock the doors, open/close the trunk, and activate the window closer. At the same time , recording new key fobs, changing autostart parameters or an individual unlock code is impossible.

Enabling Starline service mode

To transfer a car, for example, a Nissan Terrano, to a diagnostic service, you will need to temporarily disable the security functions. Switching on is carried out as follows: you need to set the cursor icon on the key fob to the wrench symbol, and then briefly press the third key on the remote control. Turning off the service mode occurs in a similar way - the cursor moves to the corresponding nut icon, and then the second button is briefly pressed. The car will inform you that the procedure has been successfully completed by emitting two light signals, and the key fob will play a melody and make the key icon inactive.

Also, if you have a GSM module, you can activate the repair mode using a mobile application. The owner must send an SMS with command 51 to the built-in SIM card or make a call where he can give command 51 in voice mode. Or go through his personal account on the official website of the company (you must go through the registration procedure).

How to disable the StarLine anti-robbery service mode

This function is designed to scare away car thieves in an emergency. When the anti-robbery mode is activated on the Starline A92, E91 or E95 models, the car turns on sound and light alarms, locks all doors, and turns off the ignition on the engine, first pulsed, then permanently. At the same time, the key fob vibrates and plays an alarm signal.

This option is activated from the key fob by long pressing the first and third buttons. After this, the corresponding icon will become active on the display. The car owner can enable the hidden anti-robbery mode. It is activated after the driver closes all the car doors and presses the Valet service button for two seconds.

It is not possible to activate the anti-theft function in repair mode.

Where is?

The location of the VALET button for a non-standard car alarm is selected at the time of installation of the security device. As a rule, the central security alarm module is installed either under the dashboard in the area of the cabin fuse box (it is easier to provide access to electrical communications) or in the area of the center console.

The maximum distance from the central unit to the VALET button is limited by the length of the cable included in the alarm kit. Usually its length is no more than 0.5 meters.

The secret VALET button is installed in a place accessible to the driver, but hidden from prying eyes. It can be installed under an easily removable panel.

After some time, the data can be forgotten, the owner of the car can change. Very often you have to look for the secret JACK button in emergency situations almost “blindly”.

Where to hide the Valet button when installing an alarm?

There are many places to install the button:

behind the glove box trims;

on the transition part from the dashboard to the center console;

in the mounting fuse block (interior);

in the area of the dashboard casings on the sides of the steering column;

under the removable ashtray or cup holder housing on the center console;

The standard length of the key wire is from 700 to 1000 mm, so it is located quite close to the main alarm unit. you need to hide it so that it is easy to find it yourself, and the criminal cannot do it;
the button is very small and you should choose a place to place it so that it cannot fall somewhere;
the push-button mechanism works due to the standard connection to the alarm system and it is worth installing it in the place where the standard wire reaches;
the wire leading to the jack button is very bright and the driver should try to make it as inconspicuous as possible.

The favorite places for installing this mechanism for drivers are the following parts of the car interior:

behind the dashboard or radio;
in the glove compartment;
under the steering wheel;
at the end of the wire;
under the passenger seats.

The driver can choose a different location to install the button or leave it in a visible place.
