Despite the fact that the Volzhsky Automobile Plant began developing its first generation of front-wheel drive cars back in the mid-eighties, the design of the VAZ-2111 at the beginning of production was considered quite interesting and differed significantly from the previous ninth generation of cars. The company's designers managed to create this appearance using the following solutions:

• narrow radiator grille;
• wide lower air intake;
• large combined head optics;
• tilt and stamping ribs of the hood;
• straight front lines of the body;
• top rails;
• enlarged rear lights with longitudinal insert;
• top spoiler with built-in brake light.

The car interior is different:

The VAZ-2111 began production at the VAZ plant in 1998. The peculiarity of the car is that it is the first station wagon with front-wheel drive, not only within the VAZ model range, but also in Russia as a whole. The car is based on the base model of the VAZ-2110, the only differences are the rear part of the body and the rear suspension, all other components of the car are unified. The problems of creating the car were the same as with the VAZ-2110, but the tests were somewhat different, since the station wagon is designed to carry cargo in addition to passengers, the rear suspension and the reliability of the body as a whole were additionally tested. The problem was solved about what the back door should be and the shape of the rear part of the body in general - at what angle the door should be tilted. The back door was tested for the reliability of the locks, the absence of backlash and squeaks when moving. Glass was also a controversial subject; it was planned that the car would have a front window; there was also an option without a window, but with a front fixed part of the glass.

Ultimately, we came to the conclusion that the side front glass should be solid.

The car uses two engine options, both with a displacement of 1.5 liters. The first carburetor, which has a power of 76 hp.
