DIY car wax

Any motorist who does not want to overpay for the finished product can make liquid wax with his own hands; in addition, many car enthusiasts have come to the conclusion that waxes made by themselves have better characteristics, their consumption is much more economical and the final cost of the product is significantly reduced. You can make your own liquid car wax using readily available ingredients, which will last for several cooking sessions. Today we will talk about how to make liquid wax with your own hands. Read the next article on.

DIY liquid wax

There are several recipes for polishing mixtures. Everywhere the main ingredient is beeswax. Depending on the proportions of the components taken, the mixture can be liquid, paste or solid. More precisely, the thickness of the mixture depends on the amount of solvent used: the more solvent, the more liquid the mixture turns out.

Liquid wax with olive oil recipe

Chop the wax into small pieces and mix with olive oil. Melt the wax mixed with oil in a water bath or in the microwave. If desired, you can add suitable extracts to the melted wax, but this is at your discretion and is not at all necessary.

There are several recipes for polishing mixtures; the main ingredient is beeswax.

We also pour the finished mixture into suitable containers and leave to cool. Ingredients for cooking: beeswax - 2 tablespoons, olive oil - 6-8 tablespoons.

Liquid wax classic recipe

To do this, you will need beeswax and turpentine in a 1:2 ratio to obtain a liquid product. The wax is crushed and melted in a steam bath or in a microwave oven. Then carefully and constantly stirring, pour in turpentine. If the mixture turns out to be too liquid, the procedure is repeated, heating the solution and adding more crushed wax.

Sometimes a small amount of "carnauba wax" is added. Thanks to carnauba wax, the coating becomes stronger. When working with turpentine, you should follow safety precautions and ventilate the room well.

Liquid wax based on linseed oil recipe

To prepare this product at home, take natural beeswax and linseed oil in a ratio of 1:4. Flaxseed oil should be boiled first. Sometimes it is replaced with olive oil. But flaxseed is absorbed much better, so it is preferable to use it.

Beeswax is crushed and combined with vegetable oil in a glass container. Then it is heated in a water bath. You can use the microwave. The finished mixture can be stored for a year without losing its properties. Store in a closed container in a cool place, avoid exposure to direct sunlight.

How to properly apply liquid wax to a car

To ensure a high-quality car wax coating, you must adhere to the following rules:

  • The product can be applied only after washing;
  • Wax should not be used at very low or very high temperatures, or at high humidity;
  • It is forbidden to use hard napkins or sponges for application;
  • You should not try to cover the entire body in one fell swoop - it is much more effective to process it in parts, making sure that there are no pronounced transitions between the polished elements.

This rather labor-intensive process is performed in the following sequence:

  1. After washing, dry the car thoroughly.
  2. Apply the composition evenly to the body. To do this, it is convenient to use a dry soft cloth or sponge.
  3. Thoroughly rub the product over the entire surface of the car.
  4. Next, you should let the wax dry - this will be indicated by the appearance of a matte coating.
  5. Remove excess.
  6. Polish the surface with a soft cloth.

Allow the washed car to dry a little (but not completely). Meanwhile, dilute the wax in warm water in the proportions specified by the manufacturer. Spray the resulting solution evenly over the paint surface and leave for a few minutes. Wash off excess with water. To remove excess moisture, you can blow warm air over the vehicle and then polish the body with a soft cloth.

Due to the fragility of the coating, cold wax is applied after 1-2 washes. Fortunately, this process does not take much time. The composition is simply sprayed over the car, and its excess is washed off with water.

When purchasing such a product, you should first of all ask what color of vehicle it is intended for. Car wax is diluted in hot water, applied to the car using a soft sponge and polished with a cloth. In this case, you need to ensure that direct sunlight does not fall on the car.

Applying wax does not require special skills and knowledge, therefore, if it is not possible to do it at a car wash, then the procedure is performed independently and takes experienced motorists no more than 30 minutes.

If you've ever used a self-service car wash, you've probably seen a feature called waxing. It is carried out at the final stage of cleaning the vehicle and is intended to give the car body shine and protect it from corrosion, minor scratches and the effects of aggressive chemicals.

Wax for cars

A protective layer of body polish is applied after washing the car. Each time you visit a car wash, the polish may be partially washed off. It is recommended to regularly renew the coating layer.

To keep the body clean and get rid of stuck small particles, dirt, and stains, special waxes, clays, and various chemical compounds are used. So, when using Turtle Wax 2 in 1 paste, two tasks are solved at once: the body is cleaned of adhering dirt, gets rid of drips and stains, polishes the surface, and protects it from dirt and moisture. This saves time and effort.

In order to make the car cheaper, it is coated with a very thin layer of varnish. Parts are more susceptible to mechanical damage. They need additional protection. But abrasive polishing is available in limited quantities. There is no particular difference in waxes; the conditions in which the car will be used play an important role.

Polishing a car with liquid wax

Polishing a car with your own hands is not a difficult operation, but before you understand the technology of applying liquid wax, you need to carry out a number of preparatory measures. First of all, you need to wash the car very thoroughly. Hand washing will not work in this case, so it is better to use special equipment or go to a car wash.

Then you need to let the car dry quite a bit, but keep in mind the fact that the wax will stick well only to a moistened surface. While the body is drying, it is necessary to dilute the wax in water, strictly following the instructions. And prepare a napkin or sponge with which you plan to apply the coating.

Now you can start applying liquid car wax to the body. Both cold and hot varieties are applied in an identical way, only the method of diluting the composition differs. It is necessary to apply the protective composition in small areas, leaving no untreated gaps or gaps. It is necessary to start processing from the roof, slowly moving towards the lower parts of the body.

After the wax protective layer has covered the entire body, you need to let it “absorb” a little, that is, do not touch the car for 15 - 20 minutes. After waiting the specified time, you can begin polishing - use a soft, dry cloth to treat the entire area of the body in a circular motion. To obtain the desired effect, two essential conditions must be met:

  • To ensure that the composition adheres well, avoid direct sunlight on the car;
  • Avoid large temperature changes. The difference between the temperature of the body and the wax solution should be no more than 20 degrees.

One of the most effective ways, at the same time affordable, is to wax your car. This composition prevents subsequent aging and wear of the coating, greatly facilitates the process of subsequent car washes and promotes faster and more efficient drying after washing.

If for some reason you do not want to use ready-made products, you can make your own wax at home on the stove. However, keep in mind that no matter how hard you try, home preparation will be less effective.

The easiest and most affordable way is to make a homemade product based on coconut oil. In order to make a wax composition using the specified method.

To prepare liquid wax you will need:

  • steamer or steam bath utensils;
  • the wax itself, of natural or artificial origin (vegetable, bee) – 5 grams;
  • natural coconut oil – 50 grams;
  • carnauba flakes – 20 grams.

At the initial stage, you need to send the carnauba flakes with wax to a steam bath to melt. When the liquid becomes homogeneous, stir in the required amount of coconut oil.

After adding coconut oil, the solution must be constantly stirred until it becomes homogeneous again. When the liquid reaches a homogeneous consistency, it must be removed and allowed to cool. The cooled wax can be used. After a few hours, the liquid will harden, in this form it is very convenient to store, and before use it is enough to simply warm it up.

One of the most effective ways, at the same time financially affordable, is to wax a car.

What is car wax used for?

To protect the car body, you can perform regular polishing using “liquid glass” or, for example, paste it with polyurethane film. What then is the peculiarity of car wax, and in what cases should such a product be used?

  • Waxing a car is the most effective way to protect it from reagents, water, snow, dirt, and dust. That is, from most external factors that can cause small chips, scratches and cracks on the paintwork of the body. Wax not only creates a protective film-shell on the car, but also fills all defects, leveling the surface of the body.
  • Car wax helps remove remaining chemicals after washing. In addition, if low-quality auto chemicals were used during washing, the wax coating will make it easier to wash off. Of course, this does not mean that if you polished it with car wax, you can use low-quality car wash products.
  • Wax polishes enhance the shine of the paintwork and return the body to a “fresh” look. Of course, a wax coating cannot be compared with “liquid glass” polishing in terms of glossy shine. However, do not forget that the main function of car wax is to protect the body.
  • Polishing with car wax will protect the body of your vehicle not only from minor damage, but also from fading of the paintwork under the influence of sunlight.

A huge advantage of car wax is that the product does not contain coarse particles that can ruin the paintwork during polishing. This means that the wax is absolutely safe for any machine, and not only an experienced specialist, but also a novice master can cope with the application of such a product. Of course, only with strict adherence to polishing technology and the use of the right products.

DIY liquid wax for cars

To make car wax yourself, you will need to purchase the following components:

  • 25 grams of carnauba wax flakes;
  • 5 grams of paraffin;
  • 40 grams of coconut oil;
  • 15 grams of pine turpentine.

The flakes are placed in a metal container. The component is melted using a water bath. Then paraffin is added to it. The melting of the elements continues until they turn into a uniform amber-colored consistency.

At the next stage, coconut oil is added to the substance. The mixture is stirred until it reaches the same color. After this, pine turpentine is added to it. To calculate it, it is recommended to use a syringe. The standard component rate is 10-15 cubic meters.

In the absence of turpentine, it is permissible to use rose or other oil that has the effect of easy evaporation. The mixture is poured into a jar, where it cools to room temperature. The finished substance is applied to the coating like ordinary liquid wax.

Recommendations for waxing a car

The choice of product for coating a car should be approached carefully, because the safety of the varnish and the condition of the body surface will depend on it. If the car body is no more than five years old, then solid and liquid wax will be best suited for your purposes. If the body is older than five years, use mixtures with abrasive elements or a polish containing wax. If your car is completely new, make sure that there are no abrasive elements at all. This may damage the bodywork!

Types of wax

Today, several types of wax are known. Let's take a closer look at them.

Cold wax

Great attention should be paid to cold waxes containing surfactant particles and emulsion. When applied, this composition easily fills microcracks, various scratches and cracks in the body covering. This makes the car shine, makes washing easier, and speeds up drying.

Cold wax

Cold waxes have one drawback. They don't last long. In other words, to consolidate the effect of such compositions, it is advisable to use them after several washes in a row.

Hot wax

Professionals recommend paying attention to hot waxes. They are not found on sale very often, so they may not even be known to a wide number of motorists. The composition resembles a fat-like substance, which can be artificial or natural.

Hot waxes last from 6 to 12 months. They perfectly protect body surfaces. The only disadvantage is the application process, which is more time-consuming compared to the cold method. You will need to dilute the composition with hot water in the same parameters, apply with a napkin and polish.

You should know that carnauba wax is often added to hot waxes, which is characterized by absolute transparency and ultra-reliable protection. In addition, substances are added to this composition that effectively stop the effects of corrosion.

Another disadvantage of hot waxes is their price. Due to the fact that the compositions use expensive raw materials, they cost much more.

Foam wax

Foam wax treatment

Foam waxes are similar to hot waxes. To apply such wax, however, you will need special equipment. The fact is that foam waxes must be applied with the support of a jet of air under pressure.

Only in this way does a wax coating of this type adhere well to a metal body and is sprayed more evenly.

Hard wax

This is a modern tool. It is distinguished by its universal properties due to the creation of a thin water-repellent film on the body, and does not require complex application technologies. It is practically no different from liquid wax. Same shine, lasting effect for 5-6 months (several procedures in a row are required).

Hard wax

Hard wax contains natural and synthetic substances. For example, it can be either beeswax or vegetable wax.

Make your own liquid wax for cars

Liquid car wax is a special liquid product for protecting the paintwork of a car, based on synthetic or natural components. This recipe involves preparing a varnish restoration product if there is significant damage to the coating.

It can be made at home if you use ordinary clay. Even a small amount of 100 grams will be enough to polish up to 10 times. All procedures must be performed with a microfiber-based cloth, since it has a structure that is gentle on the coating.

Another popular product that effectively restores a car’s paintwork is the so-called “wax polish.” You can buy it at any auto store, but it’s easy to make it yourself to save money.

We will need beeswax, which is better to purchase from a trusted place so that the product is of truly decent quality. The other component is regular turpentine.

The wax is finely chopped, crumbled and melted to a liquid state in a steam bath or in a microwave oven. Pour the same volume of turpentine into one part of the hot wax with constant stirring, achieving uniform distribution. After this, pour the polishing wax into any container or jar and wait for it to cool completely. Instead of turpentine, you can use regular vegetable oil, which creates a fatty base.
