At the end of 2011, a Russian-made car, the Lada Granta, was released. After a short period of time, this model became widespread throughout Russia. The president himself personally conducted a test drive, after which he highly praised its response and practicality.
The main advantage that made the car so popular was its low price, and with it rich functionality and good driving performance. The release of the car was accompanied by logical and correct marketing moves, which were a good help for the development of sales. There is a collectible model made on a scale of 1 to 43.
A significant contribution to the development was made by the technologies and solutions of the Franco-Japanese alliance Renault-Nissan, and the name was adopted according to the results of the all-Russian competition - “A people's car - a people's name”, the finalist of which was a resident of the city of Krasnoyarsk, Pavel Zakharov, who subsequently received the main prize - Lada Kalina straight from the factory.
Exterior
Compared to Grant's predecessor, it turned out to be very large, as a result of which it is sometimes classified as class “C”. And here’s what the dimensions of the car are: 2476 mm is the wheelbase distance, 4260 is the length of the body, the height is 1500 mm, and the width is 1.7 m. With such significant dimensions, the weight of the Grant is quite advantageous - 1115 kg.
Effective cost reduction was achieved through the use of computer technology. Perhaps as a result of this factor, the exterior came out simple, without any zest. Many people note that the appearance is boring and even depressing; this is one of Granta’s weaknesses, if not the weakest. Indeed, in front there are two simple-shaped headlights, which are connected by a radiator grille that occupies a large area. Cut across it is a chrome molding that supports the rook badge.
A significant contribution to the simplification of the design was made by a meager set of parts: instead of the former 9 elements of the front bumper, only 3 remained, instead of 15, there were only 3 in the door trim. However, due to such a reduction, the assembly of the car improved: the tedious crackling of crickets when driving over uneven surfaces disappeared. By the way, in 2011, after the release of the Lada Granta, Steve Mattin, a specialist who worked on the exterior of Mercedes-Benz and Volvo, was invited as the chief designer of AvtoVAZ.
Advantages and disadvantages
The exterior of the Lada Standard configuration is not impressive in any way, it is even somewhat unsightly. What's included in this version? This image of the car is created by unpainted mirrors, rear and front bumpers, and door handles. In addition, the overall picture is further aggravated by the presence of disc hubcaps and a radiator grille, but this is the most minimal configuration for you. A negative point is also the lack of tinting and the car is not equipped with electronics. One should not expect anything else, since the Lada Granta is an economy class car. Therefore, the car definitely needs tuning solutions, especially its minimum configuration.
Tuning itself is something between creating an individually unique image of your “iron horse” and upgrading the car’s control systems. In further versions, AvtoVAZ made the necessary adjustments and slightly modified the exterior and equipment of the Lada. Now the car looks more presentable and, first of all, thanks to the “casting” on 13 wheels.
What's included in the popular car? Granta is equipped according to basic modern requirements. All necessary passive safety equipment is available: AirBag for the driver, inertial belts, latches for a child car seat. The Lada Standard version has daytime running lights, a spare wheel and the ability to fold the rear row of seats. The main advantage of the standard layout of the Lada Granta in the most minimal configuration is the low price, which is affordable for many fellow citizens.
Granta is available in three versions: Standard, Norma, Lux. The Russian automaker has specially launched the production of several variants of the Lada in order to be able to satisfy the needs of different categories of car enthusiasts. Interior
The interior of the Lada Granta is head and shoulders above the quality of its exterior trim. Of course, there is no point in comparing the interior of the Granta with foreign sedans of the same class - the ergonomics and aesthetics there will be a level higher, but nevertheless, by purchasing this car, you get a huge amount of space in the front. Granta also has achievements that its predecessors did not have: temperature and fuel level indicators, which previously had a physical location on the console, have immigrated to the liquid crystal display in an electronic version.
The chairs are unremarkable, but they are comfortable to sit in; the cushion is long enough even for a tall person; in Kalina, for example, it is shorter. In the rear seats, not everything is so smooth: there is not much space, and if three people sit, the middle one will be hampered by the tunnel running through the center.

AVTOVAZ officially presented the restyled Lada Granta sedan of the 2018 model year. Contrary to expectations, not only the front part of the car has changed.

Today AVTOVAZ finally officially presented the updated Lada Granta sedan - the first model of the new Granta family.
The new Granta sedan demonstrates the company's attentive attitude to the needs of modern customers, for whom striking car design and reliability are synonymous. In the modern world, a car is becoming not just a means of transportation, but a real living space where the driver and passengers feel comfortable and protected.
According to Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jan Ptacek, the Lada Granta family is one of the market leaders and at the same time a unique offer, setting the tone in its segment.
The new Granta sedan 2020 model year will further strengthen the company's strong and attractive image, as well as attract new buyers through a balanced combination of advanced design, reliability and excellent prices.
The car is a new example of the dynamic development of the brand. Proven reliability, combined with a confident and modern appearance, interpreted through the genetic code of the “X-shaped” design, creates a worthy update to the Lada Granta family and lays the foundation for its further development.
The new Granta sedan is distinguished by a completely redesigned front part of the body, reflecting that it belongs to the new generation Lada cars, where the headlights on a dark glossy backing are organically integrated into the upper part of the radiator grille and “X-graphics” is visually highlighted by chrome inserts in the shape of boomerangs. The enlarged LADA logo completes the new look.
Rear-view mirrors with integrated turn signal repeaters and original wheel design complement the modern look of the sedan.
Belonging to the brand's DNA is also clearly expressed in the style of the rear of the new Granta. Engine
The concern offers three engine options for the buyer to choose from. The volume of the entire trio is 1.6 liters, the differences are manifested in power: two 8-valve engines 80 hp. and 90 l. With. and a more powerful 98-horsepower 16-valve. By the way, on the medium-power model, the developers improved the level of noise and vibration emitted; this was achieved by reducing the weight of the connecting rod and piston mechanisms. Thanks to these manipulations, fuel consumption was reduced and engine life was increased. Thus, with a combined cycle, the sedan “eats” about 7 liters per 100 km. The remaining power units have proven themselves well in the previous model range of Kalina cars.
Technical features
The technical capabilities of a car primarily characterize its overall level. Lada Granta is a basic layout compared to other versions of this line. There is nothing superfluous in it. At the same time, the parameters of this Lada model are as follows:
The basic version is equipped with a power unit in the form of a four-cylinder petrol engine of 1600 cc. Develops power of 82 horsepower. At the same time, the motor can create a maximum torque of 182 Nm. The power plant was not created specifically for this model. Especially for the minimum configuration. It is just a copy from another representative of AvtoVAZ, namely Lada Kalina.
- In the original layout, the car is equipped with a manual transmission.
- The steering wheel is raised high and can rotate four full turns.
- In terms of its dimensions (4200:1700:1500 mm), Granta does not exceed the usual dimensions of Sedan class cars. The curb weight of the car is 1.515 tons. The minimum ground clearance is 16 cm. The wheels have a size of R13 - 175/70.
- The Lada of this version received from the designers a luggage compartment with a capacity of 500 liters. This allows you to travel longer distances.
- Braking systems installed on the Grant chassis are standard, combined type: front - disc, rear - drum.
- The car's appetite for fuel is determined by the nature of the drive. In city traffic, the Lada Granta consumes up to 9.3 liters, and when driving onto a suburban highway, the consumption will be 6.1 liters. A combined driving style will increase gasoline costs to 7.3 liters per 100 km.
- The dynamics of acceleration to hundreds is 9.5 seconds.
- Any distinctive design solutions for the appearance of the machine are not used. This is the minimum configuration.
Trunk
A serious advantage of the Grant will be a volume trunk of 480 liters, which will allow the car to be used for transporting large cargo. Spaciousness will be increased by folding seats, which are brought into a compact position by a button located in the cabin. Repeated amateur tests with loading bags of potatoes, firewood and cement have repeatedly proven that the Granta can act as an unpretentious beast of burden.
Under the floorboard of the trunk there is a spare tire, in accordance with all the traditions of the Russian automobile industry.
