The front panel also follows an X-shape in its concept. The deflectors and buttons are framed by lines beveled towards each other. The rest of the central part of the bumper is an X-shaped radiator grille, which is trimmed along the perimeter with a thin chrome strip.

The bottom of the bumper has fewer decorations. At the ends of the air intake system you can find modest fog lights, which have a round shape. They are installed exclusively in a rich configuration. The designers also added some aerodynamic parts here to improve the appearance of the car.

The station wagon's profile was exactly the same as that of the old version of the Granta, only with a different trunk shape. Almost half of the free space here is occupied by massive windows separated by thick body pillars. The doors here are decorated with a modest protruding strip running along their entire length. To lock the fifth door, you must press the button on the key. It does not open automatically, which means you have to lift the dirty lid with your hands.

The trunk handle is uncomfortable and looks more like a recess. When closing, the door does not make the sound of the lock clicking - due to inexperience, you will have to double-check whether the trunk is closed or not. The lid combined with glass is noticeably heavier than a regular hatchback fifth door, so you will have to make an effort to lift it.

Sometimes there is a malfunction of the lock - if the driver presses the open button from the passenger compartment, the lid then does not close. You have to press the button several times. All these shortcomings are minor, and given the price of the car, they can be neglected. But the opening turned out to be wide and cannot but please the owners. Engineers had to fit a large luggage compartment into a small wheelbase. They coped with this, although there were some minor flaws.

The main disadvantage of the Granta trunk in a sedan body is the opening mechanism. Spring torsion bars in the closed position of the lid interfere with the transportation of goods; when loading a large load, the lid will not be able to close. The second drawback is the imperfection of the lock, which often jams. There is no provision for automatic lifting of the lid when opening, as in the hatchback body. The lid is not sheathed with anything, it is bare metal with paint with all the attendant problems of lack of sound insulation.

Of course, the interior decoration certainly cannot be called luxurious, but what is available here is enough to travel even over long distances. Behind the steering wheel you can find a massive instrument panel filled with a pair of round analog gauges that are beautifully illuminated in different colors, as well as a modest on-board computer monitor located vertically.

Even though a station wagon is much more spacious than a sedan, five people can still fit here with difficulty. Each seat is made of simple fabric and is equipped with a minimum set of functions. Passengers in the first row can only be content with mechanical seat adjustments, headrests, simulated lateral support and heating. The three-seater sofa, located on the second row, is equipped only with headrests and a central armrest, for which you will have to pay extra.

The wagon's capacity is very small - only 355 liters in standard form. When the second row is removed, this figure only increases to 670 liters. The only saving grace is the presence of an underground space in which the spare tire and some tools are located. In general, you definitely won’t be able to take a lot of things with you on a trip.

The luggage compartment volume in the liftback is 440 liters in normal condition. If you fold the rear row of seats, the figure increases to 770 liters. The rear row of seats can only be folded if the front seats are moved as far forward as possible. The rear seat head restraints will have to be removed.

If necessary, you can remove the rear shelf, for example, when transporting large cargo. This will not increase the volume, but nothing will interfere with the load. There are niches on the right and left for transporting various things, for example, travel bags or necessary tools. There are hooks above these recesses for hanging bags so they won't get in the way in the back seat. There is a light in the trunk, but it only works when the headlights are on low beam. This is convenient in the dark and in cloudy weather; in other cases, improving the lighting will help.

Under the mat there is a niche for transporting a full-size spare wheel with a set of tools. The size of the recess allows you to transport a larger diameter wheel, for example, R15 or R16, in place of the spare wheel. Additionally, get a rubber mat, since the standard coating will quickly become unusable during the operation of the car.

Modification of the lifting mechanism of the trunk lid of the Lada Granta

On the Granta sedan, torsion bars are responsible for lifting the trunk lid. Many people are not happy with them because they interfere with the transportation of goods. To get rid of this problem, you can install gas stops. To work, you will need a set of these spare parts, a bracket and several hours of free time.

To install the stops, you need brackets that you need to make yourself. Stainless steel 3 mm thick is suitable for this. You need to cut corners of the appropriate size from it. The next step is to remove the torsion bars and arches with springs.

Brackets with stops are secured with a rod towards the street - this ensures smooth movement of the shock absorber without beating. The gas stops are secured to the other side in the same way. Shock absorbers do not interfere with loading and, in the closed position, do not interfere with the transportation of goods.

For the design, you can borrow shock absorbers from the Niva’s rear door. But the force parameter should be taken into account. For example, when installing stops from a VAZ 2109, opening the lid will be smooth, but when closing it will have to apply significant force.

When you press the button on the key fob or in the passenger compartment, the trunk lock opens the lid, but it does not lift, which is not entirely convenient. This omission from the manufacturer can be corrected in just a few minutes. To do this, you will need to purchase two clutch fork springs from a “penny” VAZ 2101. They need to be hooked onto the technological holes in the trunk, and the modification is completed. If before this the cover was modernized and lined with sound insulation, then its weight has become greater, which means that stiffer springs will be needed. For example, from the rear brake pads of a VAZ 2107 and other “classics”. If necessary, the springs can be removed in a minute.
