And our line is completed by a 98-horsepower gasoline unit with a volume of 1599 cubic meters. This is a gearbox with an in-line arrangement of cylinders. There are four of them here, as in other modifications. The peak torque of the unit is 145 Nm, which is an order of magnitude higher than that of the 80-horsepower engine. The maximum speed of the car is 190 kilometers per hour. Despite the large volume, the fuel consumption of this engine is not much different from its predecessors. In average mode, Lada Kalina 1.6 consumes 7.2 liters per hundred kilometers.

If we consider the transmission, Kalina uses two types of gearboxes. The first is the familiar “mechanics”, and the second is a robotic AMT. It was developed jointly with German engineers. Only the front part of the body underwent significant changes, while at the rear there were not very many design innovations. In profile, the car looks just like the original Lada Kalina, except for the new alloy wheels and wide wings. Inside, the difference between Kalina 2 and the previous car is much more noticeable. However, AvtoVAZ still has work to do. Despite not the most modern design, the automatic transmission behaves well in urban conditions, and only on the highway its shortcomings begin to appear. In particular, the dynamics at speeds of 80-120 kilometers per hour are quite sluggish, which makes overtaking difficult.

Another important difference between the Lada Kalina 2 and previous cars is the chassis . To a large extent, it is copied from the many times mentioned Lada Granta, but reconfigured in accordance with the features of the Kalina. The changes benefited the model: the car began to respond more clearly to steering turns, including microsteering, directional stability improved and, in general, the car became more pleasant to drive.
