From a design point of view, the Lada Kalina is a well-tailored and attractive little car. Engineers carefully worked on the suspension and chassis as a whole, which improved the smoothness of the ride on small bumps. The suspension itself has good energy capacity and long strokes - it adequately withstands impacts from the road even when the cabin is fully loaded.

The electric power steering is weightless at low speeds, making maneuvers in the city easier. However, as the speed increases, the force on it does not increase, and it remains “empty”. At high speeds there is some swaying and yaw, and in corners there is noticeable roll. All this discourages the desire to drive quickly, and it is also unsafe.

The most acceptable engine is a 1.6-liter unit with an output of 98 horsepower. In this case, you can count on good traction at both low and high speeds. The gearbox ratios are optimally selected, but the clarity of transmission shifts is extremely mediocre.

Lada Kalina (factory designation VAZ 1118) entered the assembly line in 2004, but the history of its creation begins in the late 1990s. The steering has also been recalibrated. As the speed increases, the steering wheel becomes noticeably heavier and provides good information about the road situation. However, the engineers failed to achieve responsiveness in the zero zone.

The suspension handles bumps rather harshly and annoys riders with shaking. At the same time, the shock absorber struts are pleased with their high energy intensity and adequately withstand impacts from large potholes.
