The popular thematic resource Oil Club recently published two fresh analyzes of SINTEC LUX 10W-40 API SL/CF and SINTEC SUPER 10W-40 API SG/CD oils.

With the permission of the Oil Club administration, we decided to share the results of these analyzes with our readers.

The oil is stated as:

API SL/CF 1) The oil meets the SAE viscosity standard and can be called xxW-40.8) 2) Viscosity at 40C = 96.7 - not the most economical, but is it worth discussing efficiency in 10W-40? Such oils are not for fuel economy. 3) Viscosity at 100C = 14.5 - just thick, strong viscosity 10W-40. 4) Viscosity index = 157 - the norm for 10W-40. 5) Base number = 8.93 - in the laboratory we tested it using the “lowering” method of ASTM D 4739, if we measure it with the usual ASTM D 2896, we will get a base number 1-1.5 units higher. That is, the alkaline number here is about 10. This indicates good washing/neutralizing properties of the oil. 6) Acid number = 1.96 - the norm, for oil with a high content of anti-wear, even low. 7) pH acidity = 7.2 - normal value for fresh oil. Flash point = 227C - good flash. 9) NOACK mass evaporation within one hour at a temperature of 250C (waste) = 10.11% - this is even too good for semi-synthetics 10W-40, usually such NOACK has more stringent standards. I believe that NOACK is still higher here. But even if so, it’s still not bad. 10) The pour point of -35C is not the most outstanding; usually 10W-40 has pour points of -39C, -40C, -42C. Considering that 10W-40 is used down to -25C, this is not critical. If temperatures are lower, you need to switch to 5W-40. 11) The oil contains molybdenum to reduce friction and fuel efficiency, although literally a few lines above I stated that such oils are not for economy, apparently the manufacturer still includes some efficiency in this additive package. Also, there is a very “fat” content of ZDDP anti-wear additives. And of course, calcium-based detergents.

Positive reviews

Mostly reviews about Syntoil oils are positive. Drivers are satisfied with their choice. The engine runs stably and consumes less fuel. It starts easily even in the harsh Russian winter.

The system is kept clean throughout its entire service life. "Syntoil" significantly prolongs engine operation. Domestic oils ideally combine quality and reasonable cost. This is a good option for cars of different types and models.
