I’ll say right away that ZIC A is an excellent choice in the budget category. Before that, we took our Lukoil and Rosneft, somehow they didn’t really take root, although in general they were also not bad (friends with our cars don’t complain). The main advantage for me is the price, but the properties of the lubricant are also quite high quality. In the cold the engine starts without any questions until about 20 degrees below zero, then it doesn’t start the first time. In summer it does not evaporate much because the product is thicker than synthetics. Again, compared to other semi-synthetics, it effectively cleans carbon deposits from parts, although some particles still remain. In general, I’m pleased with the mixture: I couldn’t find a better one at this price.
How to spot a fake
Previously, ZIC oils were produced in metal cans, which could be used by fraudsters for criminal purposes. As a rule, they collected empty packages, filled them with spindle, waste or, at best, cheap motor oil, brought the packaging into decent shape and sold it through their own channels, passing it off as the original product.
This cannot be done with the updated plastic canisters. There is a thermal film on the lid of each package that cannot be restored after opening the package. The canister itself is made of multi-relief plastic, which makes independently reproducing such packaging in artisanal conditions either impossible or unprofitable.
An additional level of protection is provided by several indicators, which must all be present on the canister. Only in this case will it be possible to talk about the originality of the product.
These indicators include:
- ZIC logo on the protective foil under the lid, on the film on the lid and on the bottom of the canister;
- ZIC hologram on the label;
- laser application of the batch number.
Types of lubricants
ZIC 10W-40 is available in synthetic and semi-synthetic versions.
Synthetics are suitable for engines that can only run on synthetic compounds. For most engines of foreign and domestic cars, semi-synthetics are better suited. In terms of operating temperatures, 10W40 operates in the range from -20 to +35 degrees, which makes it suitable for working in Russian conditions, except for severe frosts. In our time of mild winters, it is quite functional all year round. ZIC oil has three types of base markings - semi-synthetic composition, synthetic and fully synthetic. This is the correct marking showing the current composition position.
Most of the manufacturers' formulations, declared as synthetics, are obtained by cracking and are not suitable for these machines. ZIC does not produce fully synthetic lubricants for passenger cars with a viscosity of 10W-40, which it honestly states on its website.
Synthetics:
- ZIC X7 LS 10W-40. Also known as ZIC A Plus 10W-40. Under this name it is found on sale in domestic stores, while the type indicates semi-synthetics.
- ZIC X7 Diesel 10W-40
As you can see, the SK Lubricants company does not produce many subtypes of this viscosity for conventional machines. One type for gasoline engines, one for diesel engines. They produce a different line for commercial vehicles; they differ somewhat in composition and properties and are less suitable for passenger cars. For example, oils of brands 7000 and ZIC 5000 are intended for trucks.
Semi-synthetic:
- ZIC X5. Also known under the old name ZIC A. It can often be found on sale with the old markings. Has an AvtoVAZ certificate.
- ZIC X5 Diesel.
- ZIC X5 LPG. It is a new product and cannot yet be found on sale in car dealerships.
Semi-synthetic materials are also not very diverse: one for gasoline engines and one for diesel engines. There is also no information on how well they work with engines converted to gas.
