Chevrolet Niva which wheels are suitable

Gas wheel bolt pattern 31029

Sooner or later, car owners are faced with the choice and purchase of wheels and tires for their car, for example, when buying alloy wheels, you need to know the parameters of the wheels installed on your car, so as not to encounter problems with their installation and the handling of the car and the durability of its suspension parts.
Let's consider which wheels and tires can be installed on which Volga model. Basic disk parameters:

Disc width

– the width of the rim seat, measured in inches.
R
- disc diameter - the diameter of the rim seat, measured in inches.
PCD
(Pitch Circle Diameter) - the diameter of the circle on which the centers of the mounting holes are located, measured in millimeters indicating the number of holes.
Overhang
(ET) (also spelled OFFSET) - the distance from the mating surface of the disk to the plane passing through the middle of the rim, measured in millimeters.
When choosing wheels, you should not abuse too small an offset, as this leads to increased loads on the suspension and steering elements, and can also cause the wheels to touch body parts. DIA
(also spelled D, Centerbore) – the diameter of the central hole, measured in millimeters.

The disk marking usually looks like this - (width) x (diameter) (number of mounting holes) x (PCD) (ET) (DIA)

Basic tire parameters:

Wheel size for white Niva 4×4

Since 2006, a more advanced model of the VAZ 2121, the Lada 4×4, has become available to the population, which has plug-in all-wheel drive without locking the center differential clutch. Fans of the brand began to actively look for this modification, and more often in the traditional white color. Around this time, specialized wheels with the following characteristics began to be produced for it:

  • The main size installed in the basic configuration was stamped black wheels with parameters 5Jx16 ET58 5x139.7, which was suitable for tires with dimensions 175/80/R16. The central drilling and bolt pattern remained unchanged compared to models of previous years - the wheel was traditionally mounted on a hub with 5 studs of 139.7 mm each.
  • The owners of these cars often tried to change only the width of the seat on the rim for mounting the tire, and almost never changing the radius, because the target audience of the brand was completely defined - the SUV was used for its intended purpose. Thus, the most popular wheel sizes installed on Niva 4x4 are 6.5Jx15 ET15, 6.5Jx15 ET35, 7Jx15 ET15, 7Jx16 ET15, which corresponded to wheel widths of 185, 195, 2020, 215 and 225 mm, and the profile at the same time it remained within 75-80 mm for better cross-country ability.

Something like this: Wheel parameters Volga GAZ 24 J 5 PCD 5x139.7 ET 16 110 14″ GAZ 2410, 31029, 3102 produced before 1997 (pins) J 5.5 PCD 5x139.7 ET 6 DIA 110 14 ″ GAZ 3110, 31105, 3102 produced in 1997 and later J 6.5 PCD 5×108 ET 45 DIA 58.1 15″

Sorry, but don't 2410 wheels have zero offset?

In stock 0, but you can set it with an offset of ET6 and even more. It’s just that 15 wheels with 0 offset will catch the steering knuckles like crazy.

Yes, cool. Especially when you compare the weight with the old stamping... The difference is at least two times... There’s also less rubber)

with zero offset it should not catch. I tried it from a Chevrolet Niva, figured it out ahead - it’s catchy, well, the offset is either 25 or 40...

The Niva has a reach of 45. It grips both front and rear. On the 29th, according to the factory's recommendations, you can install wheels with an offset of up to +6/-6. Thank you, I saw these wheels somewhere on 29th)))

I've ridden these myself. And it looks awesome, and it drives much better on them. They are much lighter and stronger than the original Volgov ones. In addition, I took 15 inches and put Japanese tires on them. Absolutely chic!

Yes, I think they will look good on 29K)

Now where can I really find them to order? or just search by hand?

I sold mine two years ago. They tore it off with their hands. Now I looked on the Yandex market: from 2700 to 4500. I think for a little over 3 pieces it’s quite possible to find new ones in stock.

These are the standard dimensions for 3102.

question about 31029

It depends which 31029 it is. What year is it and were there any changes to the suspension?

94 years old, suspension has not changed

PCD: 5*108 Dia: 58.1mm Bolt: 12*1.25 Maybe these.

5x139.7 From UAZ, Niva and Suzuki Vitara (old modification) are suitable. This is if the suspension has not been changed.

from the UAZ, from the Niva it doesn’t roll along the reach...

Agree. Then the choice of wheels will be very sharply reduced.

Folks, is it worth taking and will these (link at the very beginning) wheels fit on the Volga with an old bolt pattern? otherwise tires 20570 r14 are almost impossible to find and 15 is full.

Dimensions and weight of wheels for GAZ 3110

Not all car enthusiasts were limited to the factory supply, and many of them purchased additional wheels to replace worn or lost ones, and sometimes simply to enhance the effect of the car’s exterior. The GAZ concern allows the use of a fairly wide range of wheels, both in “stamping” and in cast or forged versions.

You might be interested in this About wheel bolt patterns on Mercedes cars

If we are talking about wheels with a radius of R15, then the manufacturer allows replacement with a size of 6.0J-7.0J × 15 ET3845, however, it should be remembered that on Volgas the wheel is very recessed deep into the wheel arch, and therefore the larger offset, the deeper the wheel sits. This means that the impressive appearance of this car on good wheels gives a smaller offset, and after fitting the driver can also use an ET value of less than 38 mm.

The main companies producing these wheels are GAZ OJSC, Kremenchug Wheel Plant, OZ-Racing and some other brands. The weight of a cast disc is about 8 kg, and forged – from 5 to 6 kg.

When the Volga owner uses cast or forged wheels with a radius of R16, the size can range from 6.0J-7.5J × 16 ET32-45, and tires, respectively, 195-225/55/R16.

Note!

In this case, it is advisable to differentiate the width of the wheels by season - take narrower ones for the summer, since reducing the friction surface greatly improves dynamic characteristics, and a wider tire increases the stability of the vehicle on slippery roads.

All wheels with a 16 radius, as a rule, weigh about 10 kg, and forged ones - 2.5-3 kg less. The most popular and reliable brands under which Volga wheels are produced, with the exception of those listed above, are CatWild, K&K, LegeArtis and some other domestic and foreign companies.

Alloy wheels R16

Many car enthusiasts do not stop at the factory wheel sizes and often purchase them with a radius of R17 or even R18, installing tires with a profile of 40-45 mm on them, however, it should be remembered that a small air gap does not provide a proper buffer between the wheels and road unevenness. This means that vibration loads can be transmitted to the car’s suspension, as well as to the interior, which will cause increased wear of parts or driver discomfort in the cabin.

So it looks like the disc fits from the UAZ?!

Fire but I can be equally wide

you can buy different ones))) I wanted different ones)))

ROSAVA BC-1 tires, set and forget: both in winter and in summer. The best suspension is 14″, and if it also has a disc front, you won’t find anything better. The balls are sucked to the fullest.

I thought so too until I drove it on a studded Volga and caught fire. It’s just a tank in the snow on ice, she doesn’t give a damn what’s under the wheels.

Who cares, but I felt the difference between 205/70 and 195/65, and not for the better. The 15″ suspension, apart from the availability of spare parts and tires, has no advantages. No matter who proves it, even the difference between the kingpins and balls is not as noticeable as the larger tire size (205/70).

“The 15″ suspension, apart from the availability of spare parts and tires, has no advantages” - what do you mean? I changed the suspension just because of the disc brakes alone!

sorry, I forgot, you have 31029! I meant the magnificent 14″ suspension 3102 (disc brakes), I could look it up by the way. The brakes there are excellent - many will confirm - with greater softness and reliability in general.

yeah, then run around looking for 14 brake discs all over the city

why? I found it once and that’s it. They don't need to be changed that often. I have something to compare with, I’ve already changed the 3rd type of suspension, but the 14″ 3102 is definitely not better.

why? I found it once and that’s it. They don’t need to be changed so often - it’s like driving to each his own. I figured that 15 would be cheaper

I’m not sure if it’s cheaper, but you also have to replace the entire axle, wheels, and tires. as I already said, if you need a smooth and soft ride, only 14″ have good brakes. 15 has a wide choice of wheels/tires and affordable spare parts. decide!

I already decided 2 years ago

I thought so too until I drove it on a studded Volga and caught fire. It’s just a tank in the snow on ice, she doesn’t give a damn what’s under the wheels.

What’s stopping you from buying a good stud 205/70 14? In the summer I bought this one izhevsk.express-shina.ru/…ce-205-70-r14-95t-1075495 the one on the right is studded. I can’t get enough of it, and it keeps me in the crowd, and it’s snowing.

Yeah, only 15,195/65 is many times more and there are even cheaper ones, sorry, of course, but for the BC-2500 it’s a fever, I have it at the moment

Wheels and tires for Niva Chevrolet

Tires determine ground clearance, cross-country ability and, in some cases, noise. The manufacturer installs several types of tires on Niva Chevrolet. The basic L and LC trims are equipped with 15-inch radial products (R15) with sizes 205/75 and 205/70. The LE trim level can be equipped with alloy wheels with 215/65 R16 tires with off-road characteristics. The top-end GLS and GLC are also equipped with alloy wheels in size 215/65 R15. Although the manufacturer positions this type of tire as off-road, owners prefer higher-profile products for off-road use. The Niva Chevrolet wheel size is as follows:

  • rim width – 6 inches;
  • rim diameter – 15 inches;
  • disc offset – ET-40 (distance between the disc mounting surface and the rim plane – 40 mm);
  • bolt pattern - 5x39.5;
  • The diameter of the hole for the hub is 98.5 mm.

When choosing tires, be sure to consider the wheel size. Some people buy all-season tires and use them only in winter and summer, others prefer to have different sets for different weather conditions, even mud tires for off-road use.

Safety can only be guaranteed by tires designed for a particular road surface. There is no such thing as universal rubber.

GAZ 31029 Volga was equipped from the factory with 14-inch wheels with tires measuring 205/70/R14.

Many friends ask WHY and WHY, as they think, you have Russian problems and troubles, if you can easily buy any world-class car after selling your gelding... It’s just a matter of the paternal automobile industry, which has been suffered through the entire history of the Russian fatherland. I want that and that’s it... I can afford to have a queen in my garage, for the sake of my soul... But the first problem was the tires and wheels. I studied dozens of Internet pages and sites. There is only one opinion, there is a complete possibility of replacing 14 disks with 15, without alterations and problems... And yet I am “gnawed” by doubts about these recommendations, many forum participants advise installing spacers, warning about the consequences when the car is moving, and the steering ends of the rods touching wheel rubber. The manufacturer simply indicates the possibility of replacing disks from 14 to 15 as a natural fact. Obviously deaf, he cannot see a sighted person. Trainees advise not to change it, so I’ll buy wheels and tires and see the result myself, since I’m an engineer by training and my calculations say that such a replacement is possible. I will act according to the principle “SCIENCE IS SCIENCE, and LIFE GIVES ITS SPROODS…” and of course, your recommendations...

Old Volgas with original tires

Auto Published by: yanush

Nowadays, it is very rare to see old Volgas with original tires, because they are already considered expensive antiques. Let's see what the standard Volgov tires were like. The connecting parameters of the Volgov wheels go back to the first GAZ cars - the so-called American system with a bolt pattern of 5x5 1/2″ (5x139.7 mm between the holes for the studs). By the way, the width of the Pobeda rims (4 inches) without ventilation holes was unusually large by the standards of pre-war cars, as was the tire size - 6.00-16. A distinctive feature of the I-77 tires for Pobeda, which were on sale until the end of the eighties (!), is the speed limit of up to 105 km/h, which is why such wheels simply cannot be used on the Volga.

The GAZ M-21 was initially equipped with diagonal tubeless tires 6.70-15 - model YA-127 (YA-127A in the tube version). However, in the second half of 1963, Y-260 type “P” tires began to be installed on the “twenty-first”, which indicated a radial cord design. However, the “radial” did not become widespread in the original configuration. Subsequently, I-194 tires were produced for the M-21 for many years, as well as the winter model I-144. Rare station wagons of the M-22 model were given “their own” I-89 tires - with increased load capacity and size 7.00-15.

Volga tires were installed on 15-inch stamped wheels (GAZ 21-3101015) with a rim width of 5.5 inches. It is interesting that in terms of connecting parameters (5x139.7 mm) the wheels are identical to parts for UAZ, RAF and VAZ-2121 cars. The first generation RAFs used wheels from the 21st. The central part of the hub was covered with a chrome cap, which was fixed due to the presence of three protrusions on the disk.
Like cars of other classes, the then new Volga GAZ-24 model tried on shoes one size smaller - that is, fourteen-inch wheels with a rim width of five inches, but with the same mounting parameters as the M-21 model.

The standard tire size is 7.35x14. Initially, the “twenty-four” tires were full-profile diagonal (82%) - model I-146, then ID-195, also of a diagonal design.

In terms of design, Volga tires were no different from rubber for Zhiguli or Muscovites - narrow Z-shaped grooves and many slits, which were designed to improve the traction properties of the tire with the road. There were also winter tires for the GAZ-24! True, in terms of the tread pattern and, most importantly, the composition of the rubber mixture, this tire was closer to modern “mud” tires (type M+S) than to purely winter ones.
A distinctive feature of “diagonal” cars for the Volga is high lateral slips - roughly speaking, when trying to sharply take a turn, the sidewall simply folds and the car “floats”. At the same time, over time, the rubber noticeably “hardens” and even becomes covered with microcracks, which is why it is no longer suitable for “normal” use (and not going to exhibitions).
In the mid-eighties, GAZ itself released a batch of light-alloy wheels with an elegant design (bent spokes), which in design were somewhat subtly reminiscent of the wheels of American Lincoln cars of those years. However, the most exotic thing on the Volga were the magnesium disks from... the Mi-8 helicopter (!), which were used by circuit athletes.

Many Volga owners today are asking the question - what should they “put on the barge”? Regardless of the model, you should strive to keep the tire's profile width to height ratio as close as possible. And, of course, no low-profile tires with numbers 60 or 65 in the index - these are suitable for relatively modern passenger cars, but not for the venerable Soviet “dreadnoughts”. Despite the fact that the selected model will most likely be tubeless, it is better to mount it on the original Volga wheels in a tube version. The reason is simple: the rim of GAZ wheels is devoid of annular protrusions (humps) that prevent the tire from becoming beaded when turning. It is important not to make the mistake of purchasing a tire that is “narrow and tall, just like your original,” but intended for trucks. A land “barge” carries passengers and the “cargo” tires are too heavy and hard for it.

For the GAZ-3102 model, tires of a completely different format were provided - wide and low-profile. ID-220 radial tires with dimensions 205/70 R14 on 5.5-inch wide wheels looked much more impressive than the narrow and high diagonal. Since the wheel rims, in accordance with the fashion of that time, lost their chrome-plated hub caps and were completely covered with large “plates” made of plastic (or metal, as was originally intended!), the protrusions for fastening the caps on the hub were abolished. During modernization, the same wide “bast shoes” went to the former “twenty-four”, which received an index of 24-10. This is where the “wheel metamorphosis” of the Volga of the Soviet period ended, although the successor of the “twenty-four” rolled off the assembly line in Nizhny Novgorod for a long time, having switched to the same disk diameter (15 inches) by the end of the twentieth century as the ancestor of the “barge family” - the Volga M-21 model.

What does this disk parameter mean?

Car rims are attached to the hubs using bolts. Their number and distance from each other depends on the car model, wheel load and other factors.

On the Chevrolet Niva, the wheels are secured with five bolts. They are located at an equal distance from the center. A bolt pattern is a marking (description) of mounting holes for mounting bolts.

It is characterized by two numbers: the diameter of the circle on which the centers of the holes are located, and their number.

(also spelled D, Centerbore) – the diameter of the central hole, measured in millimeters.

The disk marking usually looks like this - (width) x (diameter) (number of mounting holes) x (PCD) (ET) (DIA)
