Which oil is better to pour into the box of a VAZ 2114. Selecting lubricant for the gearbox

VAZ 2114 is a popular model on the Russian car market. Spare parts for repairs and care products can be found in any specialized store. Most motorists prefer to carry out maintenance of their vehicles themselves. And we are ready to help them with this.

This article will tell you how many liters and what kind of oil should be poured into the VAZ 2114 gearbox in order for the equipment to successfully serve you for many years.

Changing the oil in the VAZ 2114 gearbox

Maybe some of the drivers have not yet memorized this rule, we remind you that changing the oil in the car’s gearbox is mandatory. Transmission lubricants have a complex chemical composition. Various additives are necessarily added to their composition, the purpose of which is to improve lubricating properties, extreme pressure, anti-foaming and others.

Selecting gearbox oil for a VAZ-2114

The bottle contains old oil drained from the gearbox of a VAZ-2114 with a mileage of 55,000 km

If we consider the choice of oil for the VAZ-2114 gearbox, then of course, the manufacturer provides in the technical documentation a recommended set of lubricating fluids for all components and assemblies. But it does not always correspond to the realities of quality and use by motorists.

Having considered many sources of information, as well as automobile forums, we can come to the conclusion that motorists pour the oil they like into the gearbox. Here they are doing the wrong thing, because the quality functioning of the node, as well as its resource, depends on this element.

Let’s not beat around the bush for too long and consider which oils are the most popular among car enthusiasts and are also recommended for use:

  1. 75w-90
    is a synthetic oil recommended by the manufacturer. This type is used in all modern AvtoVAZ transmissions. Excellent lubricating characteristics should ensure the operation of the unit at high and low temperatures. Increased noise during gearbox operation compared to semi-synthetic oil. According to the API classification, the standard is GL-4.
  2. 85w-90
    is a semi-synthetic oil, API class is also not lower than GL-4. Recommended for used cars. It is cheaper than “synthetics”, and the gearbox on it is quieter.

These are all general characteristics, but many car enthusiasts will ask the question: what specific manufacturers can be poured into the gearbox? So, let's look at this issue in more detail and write a list of transmission oils that can and should be poured into this unit:

  • Lada Trans KP;
  • Lukoil TM 4-12;
  • New Trans KP;
  • Nordix Supertrans RHS;
  • Slavneft TM-4.
  • Castrol 75w90;
  • Shell Getribeoil EP 75w90;
  • TNK 75w90.

The last three are more expensive, but their composition and chemical properties are superior to their budget counterparts.

Therefore, if a motorist loves and cares about his “iron horse,” then of course he will choose them.

TYPES OF TRANSMISSION LUBRICANTS

Transmission fluids and lubricants are made on different bases. They can be:

  • Lubricants made on a mineral basis;
  • Semi-synthetic lubricating fluids;
  • Synthetic based oils.

The manufacturer is required to indicate the type of lubricant on the label of the container that is sold. What kind of oil should be poured into the VAZ 2114 gearbox and other VAZ models with front-wheel drive will be discussed below, but for now a few words specifically about lubricants and their types:

  1. Mineral lubricants are produced directly from petroleum products;
  2. Synthetic oils are produced by organic synthesis;
  3. Semi-synthetic lubricants are obtained by mixing “mineral water” and “synthetic”.

As noted earlier, additives must be added to all types of lubricating fluids.

Nuances of choice

According to the manufacturer, the oil in the VAZ-2114 gearbox is designed for almost the entire period of operation of the vehicle. In fact, it all depends on the operating conditions. As you know, road and climatic conditions in Russia are far from the best in the world. For this reason, unfortunately, VAZ-2114 owners will probably have to think about changing the oil earlier - this will be more reliable and safer for both the car and the owner of the car.

Of course, the manufacturer understands and acknowledges the difficult situation with roads and climate in Russia, and therefore has compiled a list of recommended brands for the production of oils, as well as suitable parameters for them.

So, before choosing a company, you first need to pay attention to the oil standards for the VAZ-2114 gearbox:

  • 75W-90 is the designation for synthetic oil used in the gearboxes of all modern AvtoVAZ cars. It is also suitable for the relatively outdated model 2114. Oil with this standard has good lubricating properties, ensures minimal noise levels in the box, and also reduces vibrations. Significantly better than any semi-synthetic oil. Complies with API-GL-4 class.
  • 8W-90 is a semi-synthetic oil, meets API-GL-4 class. It is considered a more affordable lubricant and is recommended for used cars.

Now let's name specific manufacturers of oils approved by AvtoVAZ specifically for the VAZ-2114:

  • Lada Trans KP
  • Lukoil TM 4-12
  • New Trans KP
  • Nordix SUPERTRANS RHS
  • Slavneft TM-4
  • Castrol 75w90
  • Shell Getribeoil EP 75W90
  • THK 75W90

PARAMETERS OF OILS FOR TRANSMISSION

Specialists who repair and maintain cars, as well as manufacturers of lubricating fluids, consider its viscosity to be the main parameter of a transmission lubricant. Next in the characteristics is the composition of additives, which are designed to ensure a long service life of transmission parts.

The same experts claim that lubricants that are made entirely from a synthetic base have the best characteristics. They are more resistant to oxidative processes, which means that they will have a longer service life. This property of the lubricant is especially important for units with heavy loads and high speeds.

Getting Started

After you have decided which oil to pour, you should decide on the conditions for the procedure and what tools will be needed for this. Of course, it is better to carry out the replacement on a lift or in a pit in the garage, but if there is neither one nor the other, it’s okay, you can simply lift the car on a jack. Keep in mind that VAZ produced two types of gearboxes for the “nine”: unattended and serviced.

The difference between them is the presence or absence of a special dipstick for checking the oil level in the transmission. Depending on what type of gearbox is installed in your car, you will need the following tools:

  • a rag or rag for wiping the dipstick, oil stains and hands;
  • a container for draining used oil (a bucket or basin will do);
  • socket wrench 17;
  • funnel;
  • special syringe (for pouring oil into a maintenance-free type box).

Immediately before the procedure, warm up the transmission and its mechanisms by making a short drive (about 10 minutes). This will make the lubricant liquid and allow it to be poured into a previously prepared container in full.

WHAT IS RECOMMENDED FOR VAZ 2114

This car, like the VAZ 2113 and VAZ 2115, has front-wheel drive. The design of the drive and transmission of such vehicles is the main factor when choosing a lubricant for these components. Also, owners of these machines need to consider the following important points when choosing transmission lubricants:

  • Operating conditions of the machine, time of year, weather conditions, outside temperature, other factors;
  • The design feature of the vehicle being used, the loads experienced by the vehicle, the duration of these loads;
  • Based on the first points, the optimal viscosity of the lubricant is determined;
  • The possibility of additives influencing various transmission components.

The question that has arisen about what kind of oil to pour into the VAZ 2114 gearbox can be answered in this way. It is recommended to fill the gearboxes of VAZ 2114, VAZ 2113 and VAZ 2115 with GL 4 lubricant; in our country it is classified as TM 4. The vehicle manufacturer recommends using Lukoil TM 4 - 12SAE80W-85. It fits all the parameters except one. This oil is not an all-season oil. In extreme frosts it will thicken greatly. The normal temperature range of this lubricant is from +40 C to -26 C. Therefore, it is best to use “all-season” SAE 75W80 or SAE 75W90.

Transmission oil for VAZ 2114

It would seem that the so-called “standard Zhiguli” oil for a manual transmission is equally suitable for both the VAZ 2114 and any other LADA. However, each model of front-wheel drive VAZs has its own characteristics.

Quite often, owners fill the VAZ 2114 gearbox with fluid, following the advice of “experienced” neighbors in a garage cooperative. The reasoning is as follows: “I’ve been pouring this oil for 10 years now, and the box is like new.”

This approach does not stand up to criticism: despite the affordability of the car, the gearbox is a complex device. Deviations from the standards established by the manufacturer will lead to accelerated wear and, in some cases, failure of the manual transmission.

Testing transmission oils on a friction machine - video

You can pour oil into the VAZ box yourself; the procedure is simple. According to the instructions, the replacement interval is 60 thousand km. The oil volume in the 2114 box is from 3 to 3.5 liters (the exact value is 3.3 - if you pour liquid into a new box without lubricant residues in the cavities and on the parts).

When choosing gear oil for a VAZ 2114, the following operating conditions are taken into account:

  • traffic intensity;
  • average load on the vehicle (number of passengers, cargo weight);
  • average temperature in the operating region;
  • types of roads: plain, mountainous areas.

In addition, diagnostics will help you choose which oil to pour into the VAZ 2114 gearbox. Based on the wear patterns of parts after the replacement interval, adjustments can be made. At a minimum, in the parameters of viscosity or temperature tolerances.

Of course, the car manufacturer will not indicate the name of the manufacturer of technical fluids in the specification. VAZ gearbox oil is produced under various brands; a reference to a specific name is nothing more than advertising.

AvtoVAZ recommends Lukoil TM 4-12, but this is just a recommendation, not a prescription

. If the instructions give preference to a certain brand, others can sue, and they will be right. Normal operation of the car depends only on the properties of the oil, and not on the logo on the packaging.

You can refer to the experience of VAZ 2114 owners. Judging by the reviews, the following brands are used:

  1. Lada Trans KP;
  2. Lukoil TM 4-12;
  3. New Trans KP;
  4. Nordix Supertrans RHS;
  5. Slavneft TM-4;
  6. Castrol 75w90;
  7. Shell Getribeoil EP 75w90;
  8. TNK 75w90.

The manufacturer is also not against the listed oils, at least these are the brands offered in official service centers, and no one worries about warranty claims.

The main indicator is the viscosity of the oil.

For moderate climates, the value 80W90 is suitable - these are the parameters recommended by the car manufacturer. With such a transmission you can safely drive both in the summer heat and in mild frosts (down to -20°C).

This is a universal approach, just like for all-season tires on wheels. But for northern regions it is better to use the 75W90 formula. During severe frosts, you can start the car even with a dead battery. And heat over +30°C is unlikely in such an area.

When filling in new transmission lubricant, you must be aware that you will use the fluid for several years without changing the lubricant when switching from summer to winter operation. Therefore, the recommendations of the car plant are one thing, but actual operating conditions are completely different.

Another limitation of the plant is the API quality standard. Transmission fluid must be marked at least GL-4, or TM-4 according to Russian qualifications.

CHECKING THE LUBRICANT LEVEL IN TRANSMISSIONS

It has already been said about which oil to choose for the VAZ 2114 gearbox, now you need to remember how its level is checked in the boxes. This is one of the simplest maintenance operations, but it cannot be postponed. It is much more profitable and easier to look and check the level about once a month than to then deal with expensive gearbox repairs. This operation can be performed in two ways, with and without a measuring probe. Let's look at them separately. With any testing method, it is necessary to let the car stand on a level surface for 15-20 minutes so that the lubricant flows into the crankcase pan of the box being tested.

To check the level with a dipstick:

  1. Open the hood and take out the gearbox dipstick. You should look for it under the air filter on the driver's side;
  2. Next, the driver needs to wipe the dipstick with a rag;
  3. Insert the dipstick back into place;
  4. Take out the dipstick a second time and inspect the traces of lubricant on it. If the trace left is below the max mark, it should be topped up.

Checking the level without a dipstick is carried out as follows:

  1. Place the car over an inspection hole or on a lift, remove the engine protection;
  2. The next step is to unscrew the transmission lube drain plug on the box;
  3. Place your finger in the hole to check where the level is. It should be on the bottom edge of the drain plug.

You can add lubricant to the level into the hole of the dipstick in any convenient way. For example, using a large-capacity medical syringe.

When you reach the desired level, everything is put in place, and you can hit the road.

Replacement in manual transmission

In a Lada Granta manual transmission, changing the oil is even easier, but it is also important to be able to choose the right lubricant, taking into account all the existing subtleties.

Which liquid should you choose?

Of the domestic oils in the Lada Granta manual transmission, you can use Lukoil TM 4

It is important to know that the viscosity class depends on the region in which the car is operated - 75W-(80, 85, 90), 80W-(85, 90). Among the domestic brands of oils for manual transmission Grants, you can use Lukoil TM4

The viscosity class of the fluid must be selected taking into account the region in which you operate the vehicle. The most universal are considered:

  • 75W-(80, 85, 90);

You can also use the following brands of oils:

  • TRANS KP;
  • THK TRANS KP SUPER;
  • Rosneft KONENIC;
  • THK Trans KP-2;
  • NOVOIL TRANS KP;
  • SHELL TRANSAXLE OIL.

Tools for work

To change the oil in a Granta manual transmission, you will need a certain set of tools, including:

  • key to 17;
  • funnel;
  • new transmission oil;
  • hose;
  • container for draining old oil 5 liters;
  • rags.

Replacement stages

To change the oil in a Granta box, you need to do the following:

  1. Drive the car into the inspection pit, but warm up the transmission first so that the oil becomes thinner and drains better.
  2. Clean all surfaces near the drain plug from dirt. For Granta you will need approximately 3.1-3.5 liters of transmission fluid in the manual transmission.
  3. Using a 17mm wrench, unscrew the drain bolt and drain the old fluid into a container, and then screw the plug into place.
  4. Pour new fluid into the box using a hose and funnel inserted into the dipstick hole.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in changing the oil in the box of a Lada Granta, and doing the work yourself will help you save money and eliminate queues at the service station.

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, it is necessary to change the oil in the Lada Granta gearbox at least once every 70,000 km. This is quite a long time, but even after this considerable mileage, many are too lazy to make a replacement, thinking that it is not at all necessary to do this for the box. But do not forget that any lubricant loses its properties over time and, as a result, ceases to perform its lubricating and cleaning functions. Therefore, it is better not to delay and change the oil at the Grant gearbox in a timely manner.

To perform this procedure yourself, you will need:

  • Canister of fresh gear oil (4 liters)
  • 17mm wrench or socket head with wrench
  • a funnel and a hose that needs to be connected together (as was done in this case)

So, before starting this work, you need to drive the car into a hole, or lift the front part of it with a jack so that you can crawl underneath.

Place a container under the drain hole and unscrew the plug:

As you can see, it is located in the hole in the engine protection on the side, and it is not difficult to find. After this, you need to remove the dipstick from the gearbox, which is located deep in the engine compartment. Taking it out is not very convenient, but if you have thin hands (like me), then there will be no problems with this:

After all the old oil has drained out of the gearbox, screw the plug into place and insert the hose with a funnel into the filler hole (where the dipstick was). This is how the device turns out:

As a result, it all looks like this:

It is not worth filling the entire canister, since the maximum volume is approximately 3.2 liters, so you must first make sure that the oil level in the Granta gearbox is between the MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick. Don’t forget to carry out this operation after every 70,000 km, or even better a little more often - it will only get better.

Manual transmission oils for VAZ (Lada) 2113/2114/2115

for repair of VAZ (Lada) 2113/2114/2115

I had a 15 with a fairly worn manual transmission, but only after filling in ZIK 75/85 it began to work normally.

I changed the oil in the box and filled it with thicker Eneos, the sound decreased by half, and by the mileage of 35 thousand the sound disappeared completely. Now 42k, everything is normal, the diesel engine does not wake up.

The box was filled with semi-synthetic ZiC oil and the second one did not turn on without a crunch, no matter how hard I tried, but after replacing it with Elf everything became as it should. Conclusion - ZiC is still chic.

That year I filled it with Luxoil 80w85 mineral water; in winter at minus 30 there is no buzz.

I changed the MANNOL 75-85 oil, the transmission became much quieter and the bearing noise disappeared altogether.

I filled in transmission oil 'Mannol' 80W90, GL-4 (4 l) MANNOL UG40180 3-4 years ago. Immediately the gearbox began to make less noise.

Rosneft kinetic 75-90 and silence.

Ravenol TSG 75/90 is normal, everything is fine in cold weather.

Tatneft filled in 75-85. In winter, Lukoil 75-90 is better. Those. In Samara we haven’t had it below -25 yet - just like everything in the summer. In summer no problem either. And fashionable, red, like ATF))) I change the transmission after about 30 thousand.

A little about the design of the VAZ 2114 gearbox

The frequency of replacement is usually determined by the service book. In order to competently approach the issue of choosing a lubricant for a VAZ box, you need to have some knowledge about its structure and maintenance rules. For example, in order to find out what kind of oil to pour into the box of a VAZ 2114, it would be nice to have an idea of some of the intricacies of diagnosing the manual transmission that the car is equipped with. For example, how to check the lubricant level. Diagnostics can show how correctly the fluid was selected and how quickly it loses its performance characteristics. This can be determined by the amount of oxol in the box, its color and smell.

Checking the oil level in the gearbox can be done in different ways. First, let's look at how to do this without using a probe. To do this, we drive the car into the garage, and it is extremely important that the floor in the garage is level. Then we go down into the inspection hole and remove the metal protection. After this, the filler plug is unscrewed and the lubricant level is checked. The oil for the box should reach the upper limit of the filler plug. If the level is insufficient, then fluid is added to the VAZ gearbox. It is advisable to find out the reason why the oil level in the VAZ 2114 gearbox is below normal. This could be either a technical problem with the unit or poor performance properties of the lubricant.

Now let's look at how to check the oil level for a box using a dipstick. Before starting work, you need to let the machine cool down a little. Next you need to open the hood and find the dipstick. As a rule, it is located under the air filter tube. You need to remove the dipstick and wipe it with a rag, then lower it back and take it out again. If the lubricant level is below the maximum mark, then it is necessary to add transmission oil.

It is also important to pay attention to the color and smell of the lubricant. If the transmission oil is black in color and has a sharp, unpleasant odor, this may indicate that it cannot cope with the tasks assigned to it or is simply of poor quality.

You can check the level, as well as replace it, yourself, or you can entrust it to specialists. It all depends on self-confidence and having the necessary knowledge.

Which manual transmission oils should I choose for VAZ (Lada) 2113/2114/2115?

Last month, PartReview users preferred Mannol. 17% of positive votes belong to this manufacturer.

In second place were Rosneft manual transmission oils – 8%.

ZIC comes in third with 8% of the votes.

In the general rating of manual transmission oils, which takes into account the opinions of owners of different brands and models of cars, these brands occupy the following positions:

  1. Mannol received 4th place, PR score – 80. Data from 15 reviews and 45 votes are taken into account.
  2. Rosneft has not yet managed to collect the required number of reviews to participate in the rating. If you add a review and indicate this brand and model of your car, you will help fix this.
  3. ZIC – 3rd place, and the PR score was 80. Data from 20 reviews and 63 votes are taken into account.

Oil change process

Before making an independent replacement, the motorist must prepare a container with a volume of 3.5-4 liters. Also, you need a special 17mm spanner and a syringe that is suitable for working with liquid motor and transmission oils. Before starting work, you should warm up the car system, namely, drive a few km.

Replacement should be made according to the following algorithm:

  • place the car on an overpass or use a jack;
  • the mudguard is dismantled;
  • unscrew the existing plug with a key on the drain hole of the box;
  • The working fluid is drained into the container. You can use a funnel;
  • the unscrewed plug should not have any contamination. It needs to be washed. After cleaning, the plug is installed in its normal place;
  • thorough cleaning of the gearbox is necessary;
  • the existing oil level indicator must be wiped with a clean cloth;
  • Using a syringe, new oil is poured into the gearbox housing.

Finally, the motorist must install the mudguard and check the level of the filled fluid. By the operation of the engine, you can know for sure whether high-quality oil is used or not. This procedure shows how to change the gearbox oil. By analogy, the oil in the gearbox of a VAZ 2112 is changed. The procedure takes about 45 minutes. It all depends on experience.

How much oil is poured into the box of a VAZ 2114? How to determine the required volume?

The statement that the VAZ 2114 is an inexpensive, unpretentious, but reliable car will raise few objections. An important condition for its successful operation is regular and accurate maintenance. Many car enthusiasts are more concerned about changing their engine oil. And would-be drivers remember the missed deadlines for changing the transmission fluid in the gearbox only when extraneous sounds appear. The procedure for changing gearbox oil is often postponed due to ignorance of how much lubricant is required.

How to service a gearbox

According to the car manufacturer's recommendations, transmission oil needs to be replaced at least once every sixty thousand kilometers. However, this does not mean that you can forget about the checkpoint before the end of this period. Top experts offer the following tips to avoid transmission failure:

  1. Regularly measure the volume of car oil. Check by touch. This way you can detect solid particles. In this case, you must fill in fresh lubricant that is best suited for the car. This rule is especially relevant for new cars, in which transmission parts are just “grinding in” to each other.
  2. Pay attention to how the oil liquid looks and smells. A dark shade and an unpleasant, pungent odor indicate that the oil is not doing its job. In addition, the listed signs may indicate that you have filled the checkpoint with a low-quality fake.
  3. Do not forget that the synthetics used to fill the transmission are very fluid. If you use it, check the condition of the gearbox seals. This is especially true for vehicles with considerable mileage.
  4. What kind of oil should I put in a VAZ box? It is better to fill in high-quality oil purchased from a reliable seller. This way you won't come across a fake. The good thing about purchasing a fake petroleum product is that you can save a couple of hundred rubles. However, if you pour it into the gearbox, the unit will most likely break. You will have to spend a lot of money on major repairs.

It is recommended to pour a little more motor oil into the gearbox than necessary. This is due to the fact that the 5th gear gears are located higher than the others. Because of this, oil starvation often begins.

Every car driver can check the volume of lubricant, assess its condition, and replace it. Completing these tasks does not present any great difficulties. Of course, you can have your transmission serviced by professionals. It all depends on how confident you are in your own abilities, how much free time you have, and what skills you have. Making even the slightest mistake can trigger various problems. It is recommended to thoroughly understand the issue before getting started.

When does the lubricant change?

Inaccurate transmission maintenance can sometimes be very costly. After all, creaks and noises that appear become harbingers of unpleasant problems. Serious surprises can be avoided. To achieve this, the transmission material in the gearbox is replaced with clearly defined regularity.

The manufacturer's recommendations indicate that the lubricant in the VAZ 2114 gearbox should be changed after 60,000 km or after 4 years of vehicle operation. The last requirement is also acceptable for those cases when the car was simply parked in the garage.

However, experts and experienced drivers advise looking into the box more often. Wherein:

  • check the lubricant by touch (if there are solid particles, it must be replaced);
  • pay attention to how the lubricant smells and looks (an unpleasant pungent odor indicates poor quality of the oil);
  • using synthetic oil, strictly monitor the condition of the seals;
  • change the transmission fluid after purchasing a used car.

Taking into account special operating conditions, replacement of the transmission substance may be necessary earlier than established regulatory standards. Then they say that you need to fill in fresh lubricant after 25,000–30,000 km. These indicators are considered optimal for active and constant use of the car.

How often should you change the oil?

If you independently master the techniques for carrying out this simple procedure, you will save significant amounts of money. When determining the frequency of replacement, consider the mileage of the vehicle. Experienced drivers recommend updating the lubricant every 10,000-15,000 km.

We advise you to pay attention to a number of factors, the presence of which may require additional maintenance:

  • Age of the vehicle.
  • Engine condition.
  • The quality of the product that was uploaded earlier.
  • Novice driver.
  • Seasonal use.
  • Terms of Use.

Which lubricant to choose

Now you need to decide what transmission substance to pour into the VAZ 2114 gearbox and how much of it is needed. You can choose from 3 categories of oils. Liquids from the discharges can be poured into the box:

    mineral; semi-synthetic; synthetic.
  • design features of the transmission and drive of the car;
  • climatic operating conditions of the machine (presence or absence of sudden and frequent temperature changes);
  • seasons when the car is actively used;
  • the nature and duration of the loads placed on transmission units under various operating modes;
  • the effect of additives on individual transmission elements.

Analysis of these indicators will help determine the choice of the optimal viscosity and composition of the lubricating fluid. In fact, it will bring you closer to the answer to the question of what substance to pour into the VAZ 2114 gearbox.

The main recommendations are that the liquid should have an index of GL-4 or TM-4. The most popular option is “mineral water” - 80W90. However, at very low temperatures it thickens, which leads to loss of lubricating elasticity. Among the more expensive options, we can highlight the “synthetic” 75W90 with excellent performance characteristics at low temperatures.

What kind of oil to pour into the box of a VAZ 2112

Considering the lack of regulation on how to change the oil in a VAZ 2112 manual transmission on the part of the manufacturer, the operating manual actually does not contain brands of transmission substances recommended for use. However, the owner can independently choose a suitable substance from those recommended on the market.

The main condition for selection, in addition to the operating conditions of the car, is compliance with modern quality standards, as well as the originality of the substance. There are 3 main types of material on the market:

  1. Synthetic oils are the most popular due to the modern manufacturing method, better characteristics compared to competitors and the longest service life. Such substances are made from modern additives and can effectively maintain the temperature inside the box for a long time, and also effectively wash mechanical parts, reducing the coefficient of friction loss. However, such materials are considered the most expensive on the market. They are also popular with unscrupulous manufacturers of counterfeit products. When purchasing, you must carefully check the originality of the material. A real manufacturer installs protective equipment on their product.
  2. Semi-synthetics are also quite popular, mainly among owners of units with mileages exceeding 150 thousand kilometers. In terms of its characteristics, this substance is inferior to pure synthetics, but has less fluidity, which has a positive effect on the operation of the unit with high mileage, since the likelihood of the substance leaking through worn oil seals and fogging of the crankcase cover is reduced. Also, this composition is inferior in cost to synthetics and is rarely found as a fake on the market.
  3. The mineral substance has the most archaic composition without the use of modern materials. Accordingly, its characteristics are significantly inferior to modern materials. In addition, it is least popular on the market, since when used, the replacement interval should be reduced to 40-50 thousand kilometers, regardless of the operating conditions of the vehicle.

Important! In addition to choosing the right substance, you must carefully select an oil filter. There are also a lot of low-quality parts on the market that can lead to unit failure over time.

When purchasing a filter, you must carefully check its authenticity, checking the series and batch numbers with the official data of the manufacturer.

Lubricant level monitoring

It is best to check the lubricant level in the VAZ 2114 gearbox using a dipstick. To perform this procedure you need:

  • leave the car with the engine turned off on a level surface for 15–20 minutes;
  • wait until the oil drains;
  • remove the dipstick located under the air filter pipe;
  • Wipe the dipstick with a dry cloth and install it back;
  • When removing the dipstick again, record the oil level on it;
  • the readings must coincide with the maximum mark of the probe;
  • if the level is low, you need to add oil in the missing amount into the hole from under the dipstick;
  • After topping up, measure the lubricant level again using the dipstick.
  • the car is installed on an overpass or inspection hole;
  • the crankcase protection is removed;
  • the gearbox filler plug is unscrewed;
  • the liquid level is determined in relation to the lower edge of the hole;
  • if the oil level is lower, then the required amount is added using a syringe.

The practice of operating a VAZ 2114 shows that a sufficient or even increased level of transmission material contributes to a noticeable extension of the life of the gearbox. Therefore, it is better to steadily monitor the oil level in the gearbox and maintain it slightly above the limit mark on the dipstick.

Oil of the best viscosity for the VAZ-2114 gearbox

If the car is operated in a region with persistent hot weather, it is better to fill the Lada box with oil of class 140; if you look at the catalog, this is the SAE type. Based on the temperature regime, for moderate, choose substances of class 90.

In Russia, owners of VAZ-2114 buy off-season liquid well:

  1. 75W-90 – can withstand even critical sub-zero temperatures. The main disadvantage is considered to be noise, without which the gearbox cannot operate.
  2. 80W-90 is a universal lubricant for cars with good mileage, at a lower price than the previous sample. Requires replacement every 50,000 - 70,000 km.
  3. 85W-90 are not suitable for harsh Russian winters, so it’s better not to spend your hard-earned money on them at all.

When choosing oil, give preference to foreign manufacturers - they rarely cause synchronizer wear at a rapid pace.

What kind of oil VAZ-2114 owners should stay away from is high-viscosity fluids 85W-90. The higher the viscosity index, the stronger the oil film is formed, which means that the lubricant is harder to reach the gearbox components and causes the synchronizers to literally wear out.

Sequence of actions when replacing transmission fluid

You can change the transmission material yourself. Replacement requires strict adherence to the sequence of actions:

    warm up the box by driving with all gears engaged; install the machine on an overpass or inspection hole; open the hood; remove protection; place a container under the drain hole; remove the rubber cap from the breather; Clean the cap and drain hole from dirt; remove the dipstick; unscrew the drain plug; drain the used lubricant; carefully screw the plug into the drain hole; pour in the required amount of liquid (use a syringe if necessary); install the dipstick; close the breather cap.

Procedure for complete replacement

If your VAZ-2114 car already needs a complete oil change, then you will need to carry out completely different manipulations, which we recommend doing it yourself.

Draining waste

It is clear that since you have set yourself a task that involves changing the oil in the gearbox on a VAZ-2114, then initially you need to drain the old oil. Before carrying out the procedure, drive a little, warm up the gearbox, and with it the old oil fluid, then it will flow out much faster. After a short trip, drive your car onto an overpass, dismantle the protection, remove the dipstick to check the TM level.

Unscrew the drain plug and immediately place a container into which the waste will flow. Once the fluid starts leaking, you can move on to other things, since in any case, you can't do anything until all the old transmission fluid stops leaking out of the box.

Filling with new oil

Now let's move on to the final stage of such a technical procedure. You will need to refocus all your attention on the filler hole from which you removed the dipstick. Insert a funnel and hose into this hole, then fill in 3.3 liters of new transmission oil. To make sure that this amount is quite enough for the successful functioning of the gearbox, arm yourself with a dipstick and check the level of the filled TM. If the oil trace does not reach the maximum mark, add a small amount more.

So, as you can see, the process of replacing transmission fluid is not accompanied by any difficulties. It is for this reason that we recommend that you carry out this procedure yourself, while saving your own savings.
