Lada Vesta plastic fender liners

Fender liners for Lada Vesta: selection and installation

Most motorists remember well the previous AvtoVAZ models - “classics”, “tens” and others - on which such an attribute as wheel arch liners was simply mandatory. However, the situation has changed, and in the case of the new model - Lada Vesta - the Russian concern has moved away from the practice of equipping cars with this device. So, in the rear arches there are none at all, while in the front arches there are wheel arch liners, but they are not full-size and cannot protect the entire space.

That is why the question of installing fender liners on the Lada Vesta is becoming more relevant than ever.

How to install fender liners?

The effectiveness of self-installed lockers in Lada Vesta will largely depend on the method of their installation. On a Russian car, it is best to install fender liners that are held on standard mounts, without using self-tapping screws. If you still had to drill into the body of the Lada Vesta, then you need to treat it in this place with an anti-corrosion coating.

To install the front fender liner on the Lada Vesta, you need to perform the following steps:

  • unscrew the screws from the wheel arch, which are intended for attaching the fender liner, remove the pistons, remove the mudguard;
  • place the locker in the wheel arch;
  • Align the holes in the wheel well with the holes in the fender liner and screw the screws in there, then insert the pistons and insert the self-tapping screw taken from the delivery kit.

To install a rear locker on a Lada Vesta, you need to take the following steps:

  • Unscrew the standard screws from the wheel niche;
  • place the fender liner in the arch;
  • place the edge of the locker so that it is behind the edge of the arch and bumper;
  • screw in the self-tapping screws using the washers that come with the fender liners, screw in the self-tapping screws with a drill and the self-tapping screw included with the lockers.

Does Vesta need fender liners?

On the one hand, the benefits of them are obvious:

With high-quality fender liners, you don’t have to worry about the safety of the body.

However, it was not without its shortcomings. In particular, this element can cause corrosion, since there is increased humidity between it and the metal of the arch, because water droplets do not have time to evaporate. However, if you do not purchase universal fender liners, for which you will have to drill additional holes, then the threat of rust can be minimized.

Therefore, there can be only one conclusion - Vesta needs fender liners.

Which fender liners should I choose?

At first glance, the question seems simple, especially considering how many similar products are on the market. However, all of them can be divided into 3 more categories:

  1. Universal fender liners;
  2. Branded fender liners;
  3. Liquid fenders.

Universal fender liners

Typically, these products are low cost and low quality. They are made of plastic, which already implies the following unpleasant features:

- fragility - manifests itself in frost, when the plastic becomes too brittle. Consequently, as a result of impacts from stones and pieces of ice that fly out from under the wheels, cracks form on it, and later this ends in the destruction of the fender liner;

- do not tolerate heat well - at high temperatures such products soften;

- periodic replacement - usually such a product lasts no more than 3 years.

Universal products are not of high quality.

Branded fender liners

They have significantly better performance characteristics. First of all, due to the fact that they are produced not from simple plastic, but from HDPE (low-density polyethylene). Its advantages:

- tolerates temperature changes well - softening and cracking does not occur, and physical properties do not change;

- durability - such wheel arch liners easily withstand impacts from ice and stones from under the wheels of a sedan;

— excellent resistance to ultraviolet radiation (even with prolonged and intense exposure);

- service life - usually it is 7-8 years or more.

Branded products are easy to install and distinguished by their characteristics.

Liquid fender liners

If earlier this type of coating was not in demand, now it is gaining more and more popularity. This is a layer of anticorrosive (liquid) that is applied to the inner surface of the arches. In fact, this method has its advantages:

— a noticeable improvement in sound insulation qualities, which is especially important, since all class B models suffer from insufficient sound insulation, especially in the area of the wheel arches;

- long service life - usually at least 5 years;

- tolerates temperature changes well.

In addition, this composition can be applied by yourself. However, not everyone wants to use a brush, especially since from an aesthetic point of view this option is not the best, while not everyone has a compressor and other equipment that allows them to work with compressed air.

Universal fender liners

Often products with a low price are not always good quality. Made from cheap plastic. Accordingly, there are a number of tangible shortcomings:

  • Fragile in the cold, plastic becomes brittle. Accordingly, if a pebble flies out from under the wheels while driving, it will leave a crack or hole. In the future, this will lead to complete destruction of the part;
  • If the temperature is too high, the plastic, on the contrary, begins to soften;
  • Frequent replacement, service life no more than three years.

Criterias of choice

They are quite simple. First, you need to visually evaluate the product for cracks, creases and other damage. You also need to pay attention to the thickness of the material so that it is not too thin (in this case, stones will easily pierce it). Afterwards, it would be a good idea to evaluate the plasticity. Naturally, it is not recommended to buy plastic goods - only from HDPE.

The configuration of the product must ensure protection of the most vulnerable areas of the wheel arches. It is also strongly recommended to buy only those fender liners that are fixed to standard fasteners in order to avoid drilling holes in the body. If they still had to be drilled, they must be treated with anticorrosive.

In addition, you should not focus on saving. High-quality fender liners for Vesta are not too expensive, so you won’t be able to save more than 300-400 rubles (on a set). But in a couple of years you will have to buy a new set.

Installation

In order to install the front fender liners on the Lada Vesta you need to:

  • Jack up the car and remove the front wheel;
  • Dismantle the mudguard and remove the screws with pistons necessary for subsequent installation:
  • Then the front fender liners are installed in the wheel niche, aligning the technological holes with the standard ones;
  • Next, screw in the screws, install the pistons and mount the mudguards.

The rear fender liners are mounted on the Lada in a similar way. The exception is that the edge of the product must extend beyond the bumper and the edge of the arch.

All that remains is to align the mounting holes and secure. This completes the installation of products on Lada Vesta.

Some car enthusiasts additionally cover the locker with soundproofing material. This significantly reduces the noise inside the Lada car while driving. Now the distribution network is receiving protection for Vesta with glued felt. What makes life easier for car enthusiasts is that there is no need to glue the sound insulation themselves.

Owners of Lada Vesta should not buy too cheap fender liners; the savings will be no more than 400 rubles per set. However, the benefits can be significant; the service life will be longer. There are quite a lot of service stations in Moscow where you can install high-quality lockers quickly and at an affordable price. You can purchase them both in the online store and in the auto parts retail chain.

Lada Vesta ➤ splinter › Logbook › Arches. Part 1. Lockers. Removal, pasting, installation

I finally decided to tackle the arches after almost two years). Process, make noise and refine. There will be several parts along the arches. I can’t fit everything into one video and one post, and all the material is not ready. So gradually) In the first part I’ll tell you about the fender liners. I took it off from the front, glued it on, and put it back. I didn't have any felt or plastic on the back from the factory, just bare metal. I decided to install plastic ones anyway, especially since I’ve already had them lying around in the garage for a year and a half. About processing and modifications of arches and lockers in the following posts and videos.

Which fender liners for Lada Vesta SV should I choose?

Today there are several types of Lada Vesta SW fender liners on the market. They can be divided into three groups:

— Universal or analogues. Such fender liners are made by third-party manufacturers. They are made of ordinary plastic, so they can be fragile in the cold and lose their shape in the heat. However, they perform their function and are inexpensive.

— Branded or original. They are made of a special material - low-density polyethylene (abbreviated HDPE). This material holds temperature well and does not break in the cold. These fender liners look very good and last much longer than the universal ones. But their price is a little more expensive.

— “Liquid” fender liners. This type of fender liner has been gaining popularity in recent years. They are a kind of rubber compound that is applied with a spray gun to the inside of the arches and, after drying, forms a protective layer. The only disadvantage of such coverage is that it needs to be updated periodically. And it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to apply it at home.

Why didn’t I coat the arches with mastic?

So I treated it with liquid, why use mastic? I just don’t like mastic - it dries out and falls off after a year or two.

No, I'm talking about STP mastic. Did you apply liquid fender liners with a pistol?

Well, instead of mastic, I used liquid fender liners. He did it with a pistol. So far everything is in place, I checked recently)

Hi Igor. Today I removed the fender liner (without removing the wheel - laziness) in order to cut off the cutter, I clung to the curb twice, I decided to paste the fender liner with a vibrator, the only question is, I have an STP vibrator, is it not afraid of water? I mean the splashes flow down the fender liner.

Hello. No, he is not afraid of water vibrations. You can safely glue it. Just wash and degrease the fender liners, otherwise they will fall off)

Tell me, is the front fender liner one-piece: does the protruding front part under the headlight unscrew from the main fender liner? Because I don’t have this piece on the left.

Whole. That is, this part is broken off. In any case, this was the case in the early Vestas. In the 4th photo this is all a solid part (except for the mudguard - it lies separately, and the cover for the PTF.) So I did this: www.drive2.ru/l/485660059498447340/

Rear fenders of Lada Vesta

Car fender liners perform several functions: they suppress noise from the impact of stones and other debris on the car body, protect the body from serious chips that can lead to rust, and also provide a kind of protection against dirt and reagents.
There are two types of fender liners installed on the Lada Vesta, felt and plastic. Plastic ones can most often be seen in the front wheel arches, here the manufacturer did their best and in most cases there is no need for modifications. But the rear fender liners are usually felt; not only do they absorb dirt, salt and other reagents, but they also do not completely cover the arch, as a result of which dirt accumulates under the fender liner over time. By the way, certain Lada Vesta cars do not have rear fender liners at all, which once again makes owners think about installing them.

Let's sum it up

Some owners of LADA Vesta cars additionally cover the locker with a special soundproofing material. It should be noted that this manipulation helps to significantly reduce the noise inside the car when driving. Recently, protection for this machine has been available for sale, which has glued felt. This greatly helps car owners, because they do not need additional soundproofing.

Let us remind you that owners of LADA Vesta cars should not buy the cheapest products. After all, you won't save much from this. In this case, the benefits will be tangible. The service life varies greatly.
