Why does the Lada Vesta battery drain (newsletter) » Lada.Online

Problem

Owners of a Russian sedan are sometimes faced with the fact that the Vesta battery spontaneously discharges, and this happens, naturally, at the most inopportune moment. It is worth noting that this problem does not affect everyone - it is typical for owners of Lada Vesta, manufactured before August 21, 2020 and only in the Lux configuration. The fact is that in this version the car is equipped with an additional EMM electronic unit.

On certain versions of Lada Vesta the battery discharges itself

What to do if the battery does not turn

A good battery lasts 3-5 years. And if the battery in your Lada Vesta is dead, then don’t rush to run to the battery market. AvtoVAZ technologies require that the battery supplied with the new car be of high quality, and the problem is often not in the battery itself, but in the fact that it is discharging. Think about saving money by using additional lights, speakers, and other equipment, including attachments.

You need to figure out why the battery died. You can charge it yourself by purchasing a cigarette lighter (a pair of clips) and asking a neighbor to start the engine. In this case, the main thing is to purchase high-quality clamps and monitor the polarity of the connected terminals yourself. You can start your engine only after the second car is started. Of course, you must connect the terminals with the ignition of both cars turned off. Don't overdo it when trying to start your engine! It may not start for completely different reasons - lack of gasoline, clogged filter and other problems. From a broken spark plug filled with gasoline to a fuse. Try to start it for a couple of minutes and give it a break. Then again. And then it’s time for the neighbor to go to work. And you should call a specialist.

A more reliable means of charging a dead battery is a charger. It is important that the battery does not boil while charging. You can check this by bending down and listening to the battery. If gurgling is heard, the charging current is too high. A proper charger should measure the battery voltage itself, first giving a large charge current, and then less and less. Periodically measuring its indicators, preventing the electrolyte from boiling. Only expensive models satisfy such requirements, but if you buy once in your life, don’t skimp. Moreover, saving on battery life is a dubious benefit.

Review

It is already known that official dealers have received requests from owners of defective cars with questions regarding the recall campaign. However, at the moment, a database with VIN numbers of cars that will be subject to recall has not yet been created.

Therefore, it is worth understanding that the letter does not mean a recall campaign, but simply informs the salon about a malfunction in the event of a client’s request. In addition, there is no exact information about whether a Vesta with a discharged battery will be repaired for free if it is not under warranty.

Despite the letter, repairs at the dealer are not easy

Reviews about the quality of work at dealerships vary - not everything always goes smoothly. For some, after the measures have been implemented, the check light comes on, for others, problems begin with turning on the high beams, etc.

Negative reviews

Considering the reviews about Vesta batteries, it should be noted that more than 90% of the statements about them are positive. Only 10% of surveyed buyers were dissatisfied with their purchase.

Among the negative statements, it should be noted that the batteries of the domestic brand do not last long. Some drivers claim that the battery only lasted 2 years. However, it should be noted that with proper operation, the operating period of these devices is about 5 years. In this case, the manufacturer provides a warranty for 3 years. Experts say that such statements may appear due to improper use of the battery.

If an Economy category battery is used in loaded conditions and in an unsuitable climate, it will not be able to ensure stable operation of the electrical system. In this case, you need to choose the right Vesta battery model.

Independent actions

Of course, the ability to repair a fault under warranty is good. However, not everyone lives near a dealership, and the warranty isn't that simple. Therefore, the question of what to do if the Lada Vesta battery is discharged is very relevant.

If you decide to do everything yourself, instructions compiled by one of the sedan owners, Vladislav Mustafin, will help you.

IMPORTANT! First of all, you need to disconnect the battery!

Removing the glove box

To gain access to the necessary elements, you must first disassemble the glove box. This is not difficult to do. It is necessary to open the glove compartment lid, and then press the latches located at the top.

It's better to start from the glove compartment area

When this is done, you need to pull the cover towards you, and you will feel the resistance of the 3 latches below. Next, you need to unscrew the 5 screws that secure the box body to the dashboard.

Then you should unsnap the side panel plug from the right end, grab the drawer handle, which is located at the top center, and pull it towards you. It is also necessary to disconnect the limit switch from the terminal and disconnect the lamp plug.

The photo shows the attachment points, as well as 3 lower fasteners

By the way, not everyone removes the glove compartment cover first during the dismantling process. This is done for greater convenience, but you can do without this step.

The whole process is clearly demonstrated in the video.

Next, we begin to directly eliminate the problem due to which the battery on the Lada Vesta is discharged.

Repair

In the niche behind the glove box

After removing the box, access to the EMM unit fixed on the engine panel will open.

Also visible is the VCM unit, which is located higher, in front of the passenger airbag.

The block is fixed with a mount and a bolt with a nut of 8 on the reverse side.

The VSM unit must be removed, and then the black block S1 must be disconnected, as indicated in the information letter.

Technologies used

The Vesta car has a battery manufactured by the Saratov Battery Plant, called AKOM - by the way, a reputable manufacturer.

The parameters of the standard battery should not differ from the factory ones - the capacity of the standard battery is 62 ampere-hours, the starting current is 600 amperes, the polarity is reversed, as is typical for foreign cars.

When choosing a replacement for the original Vesta battery, which has expired, and the signal may be that the car starts poorly in winter and discharges quickly - select not only by the size of the socket, but by all the characteristics that were listed.

It's not enough to look at just the amp hour. The starting current must be at least 600 Amperes; this indicator is the most important. Read the article and learn how to select and maintain batteries for Lada Vesta and other passenger cars.

Moreover, saving on battery life is a dubious benefit.

Why did the battery on Vesta die?

On some Lada Vesta models produced in the Lux configuration before 08/21/2017, there was a problem with self-discharge of batteries.

The factory instructions describe a sequence of operations in which it was recommended that, with the block removed, swap contacts 3-4, 6 and 7, update the software version, and reset errors in all electronic units.

However, you should not do this yourself. Especially if the car is under warranty. Let the experts do it.

If your car is not from the category we described (equipment other than Luxury, manufactured after 08/21/2017), then, most likely, the battery discharge occurred for another reason. More often this happens due to the large amount of energy consumed by the car's devices.

You have, contrary to the ban, installed, say, high-power halogen lamps, or you use fog lights at the same time, you have a large number of different signals, ratchets, switches - do not be surprised that the battery is constantly running out of charge. More often this happens when installing “left-handed” equipment by “left-handed” craftsmen.

Sometimes the cause of battery discharge can be low idle speeds, and constant driving at low speeds, in order to save money. True, if the car is configured correctly, as is the idle speed adjustment, then there should not be such a problem.

Frequent driving at low speeds can also be a driving style when, only occasionally accelerating, the driver coasts at idle engine speed for long periods of time, which is typical, for example, when descending from the mountains.

In this case, it is still recommended to brake with the engine, since the battery is discharged and the brake pads may become overheated from frequent braking and fail. Due to a low battery and a stalled engine, the electric power steering or brakes may fail. Which can also be deadly.

The battery is often discharged if you make short daily commutes from work, for example within 30 km, and while driving you use a lot of (at once) high-current electrical appliances - heated steering wheel, heated seats, loud music, etc.

Together with the engine not warming up to the required level, this can lead to a constantly low charge level. Sometimes the Vesta battery may stop turning the engine in winter due to cold. In cold conditions, it is important to ensure that the engine compartment remains warm at least until the morning.

This is achieved by insulating the entire engine compartment with special certified devices. It is recommended to install them at a service center - since the engine is a dangerous thing, there is little space there, and any ill-considered change is fraught with consequences, even a fire.

Insulation masks, blankets and other products are available for sale. The safest, of course, are heat preservation devices installed outside.

How to service the battery on a Lada Vesta - you need to know

If the battery is discharged, then pay attention to maintenance, of course, if it is serviceable. It is necessary to regularly check the electrolyte density, its quantity, operating temperature, etc. If there is no electrician nearby, you can measure it with a device for measuring the density of the electrolyte - a hydrometer, periodically measuring the density of the electrolyte.

Monitor your electrolyte levels regularly. Usually inside the screw-on or removable plugs there are plastic inserts indicating the liquid level. The electrolyte must reach them. No more and no less. If the hydrometer shows that the electrolyte density is different from normal, you need to dilute it with distilled water or add acid.

We lower the hydrometer into the electrolyte and compare the data on it with the table.

If there is a load fork, apply the load for 5-6 seconds. If the voltage is more than 9 volts, everything is fine. If there is no load plug, then you can make a homemade one from 6 lamps with a power of 55 watts, connecting them in parallel (the plus of each lamp to the plus of the others, the minus to the minus, respectively). If the lights dim after 5 minutes, the battery is discharged.

This is interesting: Renata 371 battery: characteristics and analogues

In maintenance-free batteries, it is enough to keep an eye on the ventilation holes in the battery (small holes on the sides). They should not be covered with anything.

Sometimes it is suggested to install batteries with a capacity higher than the rated capacity, but manufacturers usually do not recommend installing batteries that differ in capacity, due to the fact that a more powerful battery will take longer to charge.

And if the reason is that the battery is discharged due to short runs, then the more powerful battery will become even more discharged! However, some take the risk of installing batteries with a larger capacity, and no one has heard a single complaint from them.

You need to know this is not recommended by the manufacturer.

A radical solution to the problem would be to install a second, spare battery. However, you can’t just put a second battery in parallel. Only a few manufacturers in the world provide high-quality operation of two or more batteries in systems not designed for this. These are, for example, Whisper Power, Victron Energy.

You shouldn't risk all your electrical equipment for little-known manufacturers. It is important that your car model is indicated in the equipment passport as suitable. The cost of devices is usually equal to the cost of the battery. Therefore, this is not recommended under normal conditions.

However, for lovers of extreme sports, mega music, driving through the taiga or tundra, it is sometimes necessary.

3 tips for choosing a battery

There is a large selection of batteries for Lada Vesta. Considering that there are also a lot of fakes, look at the price, not from one seller, but from many. Give preference to branded stores. Learn to spot a fake by eye.

It's easy to do if you pay attention to the little things. Batteries from the best manufacturers are carefully processed and stamped into small parts. Cheap fakes just put on a sticker.

They are not able to do fine stamping because they do not have such high quality presses.

1) When choosing batteries, we give preference to Japanese and Western European manufacturers: Varta, Bosch, Panasonic, Global. Then to Korean, Turkish manufacturers: MUTLU, Royal, Medalist (DELKOR), Atlas, Inki aku.

Then to Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian manufacturers, jointly with foreigners A-mega, Aktex, Tubor (Arctic Titan Topbat), Akom. Zubr. Then come the Russian batteries themselves: Istok, Zver. At the end of the list are traditionally Chinese.

Although there are interesting examples among them. Especially co-productions with foreigners.

2) Please pay attention to the warranty. The larger it is, the more famous the brand, the better. Although there are cases when little-known manufacturers give a long guarantee for low quality. This means a guarantee is not an indicator of reliability.

3) When choosing, we prefer maintenance-free batteries with a discharge indicator.

For long-term, reliable battery operation, we recommend installing a new battery with a full charge from the very beginning, and then try to avoid complete discharge. At the first signs of discharge, figure out the reasons - the battery itself is to blame, or the on-board electronics. By taking action right away, you will get rid of many problems on the road!

Battery parameters for Vesta

  • The amount of charge, that is, the battery capacity. This refers to the electricity generated by the device. For the Lada Vesta battery, the capacity is 62 Ampere-hours.
  • Polarity. This parameter is closely related to the design features of the battery case, since it affects the location of the leads and, accordingly, the terminals. On the cover of the device there are markings for the positive and negative terminals.
  • Starting current. This value is responsible for the battery’s ability to turn the flywheel with the starter, that is, to start the engine. For a standard device, the value of this indicator is 600 Amperes.
  • Case dimensions. Geometric characteristics are very important when choosing and replacing a battery, since the seat has clearly fixed dimensions.

Having information about the battery installed on the Lada Vesta, the owner will be able to purchase a new battery without much difficulty to subsequently replace the worn-out device.

Attention! Experience suggests that the average life of a standard battery is 3-4 years and depends on climatic operating conditions.

Ukrainian batteries in Russia

The political situation has tarnished the reputation of Russian batteries in Ukraine, and Ukrainian batteries in Russia. But how do diplomatic tensions affect product quality? Why do many motorists decide that “car battery” on the battery label is a stigma of shame? We will correct this misunderstanding and tell you about the best Ukrainian car batteries on the Russian market.

"Westa"

All that remains of the glorious brand, which in the 00s gained personal fans even in foreign countries, is only the name. Recently, the company has been producing batteries for the Russian market in Kursk, on. That is, now, practically, the only large manufacturer in Ukraine.

Data on Vesta brand batteries in recent years is not particularly encouraging. If the old-timers found batteries with a service life of 5-7 years, then the current Vestas work on average for two years.

According to reviews on prominent Internet sites, we can say that the batteries, despite being maintenance-free (calcium-doped plates), require maintenance. At least during the autumn maintenance at the service center.

And then you will definitely get 2-3 years out of these batteries.

In general, the quality is identical to the batteries of the Kursk Battery Plant. Plus - energy-intensive grilles. When creating them, the technologies “VacSis Activation” (preparation of lead paste in vacuum mixers) and “Double Side Pasting” (double-sided paston spreading on a rigid drum) are used.

The asking price is from 3,400 rubles (excluding the delivery of the old battery for recycling).

"Force"

The cheerful yellow batteries were conceived as Westa's premium line. Now they are made by Ista, and the situation has changed a little. The batteries have become ordinary calcium batteries, ultra-high starting currents are not observed, and the positive feedback curve has gone down. True, this does not prevent these batteries from being one of the best in terms of price/quality ratio on the Russian market.

  1. But in winter, caring for them is still necessary.
  2. In general, all calcium batteries are only labeled as “maintenance free”.
  3. Yes, they have lower self-discharge and water consumption, but they need additional charging and voltage control.
  4. Even in central Russia, any battery must be charged to the maximum twice during the winter.

With such care, a pood (weight “Forse” 60 Ah - 16.3 kg!) battery made of high-quality lead will last at least 2 years.

The asking price is from 3,500 rubles (excluding the delivery of the old battery for recycling).

"Ista"

Actually, this company owns almost all battery brands produced in Ukraine. The brand itself has a long history and a good reputation.

It's no joke, hybrid batteries (low antimony + calcium in one bottle), with expanded grids on negative plates. They need care, but not too much. In general, an average European battery.

With proper use, its service life is up to 4-5 years.

The reviews on these batteries are not scary at all. Users only note that among Dnepropetrovsk batteries you can often come across defective ones, depending on the batch.

However, batteries are easily replaced under warranty, so poor technical control at the factory will not harm your budget. Perhaps technical control is the weakest point in the structure.

On the other hand, monitoring ten to two thousand batteries daily is not so easy.

By the way, about battery reviews

As for negative reviews, the technical literacy of modern drivers is slightly lower than that of representatives of the “old school”.

In the days of purely mechanical cars, in which there were no “brains,” anyone who got behind the wheel, at a minimum, thoroughly knew the structure of their car, and at most, could “tweak” it on their own.

Now the situation is not the same, and many drivers, having read “maintenance-free battery” on the label, put it under the hood and forget about it until the car suddenly refuses to start one day.

In general, the time it takes to care for the battery is compensated by its long service life.

PS It turned out to be a modest review, but what can you do - many brands have sunk into oblivion, some only have their names left, some have irrevocably lost in quality (“A-mega”).

You can add other Ista brands to those listed - Oberon, Stayer, Volta, but structurally they are almost no different from Ista 7.

In a word, although there are not many decent batteries from Ukraine on the Russian market, some of them deserve to bear the proud title of a car battery.

Battery malfunction

The battery becomes inoperative after being completely discharged. A dead device can cause a lot of inconvenience to the owner of a LADA Vesta. Not only will the engine not start, but getting inside the cabin will be a problem, since the central locking is electrically driven. To prevent this situation, the driver's door handle is equipped with a lock cylinder hidden under a special plug. After entering the cabin, the owner will be able to open the hood, providing himself with access to the “dead” battery.

Battery Features

The battery, regardless of the manufacturer, has similar outlines to all other models. However, there are differences that are often missed.

The Lada Vesta is equipped with a standard battery from . This Russian battery occupies something between European and Asian counterparts. Here are a few details that are best to understand right away:

  1. Capacity or charge is a unit of measurement. The electricity generated due to operation from battery discharge has its own value. The model keeps the figure around 62 Ah.
  2. On Vesta the polarity is reversed. The position of the terminals may therefore vary depending on the model with which the comparison is being made (analogue).
  3. “AKOM” empty current is 600 A. This indicator directly affects the ability of the engine to start in low temperatures - an important aspect for residents of Russia.
  4. The seat is individual in nature. Despite the complete coincidence in technical characteristics, the new battery may not fit in the place of its predecessor.

All these features need to be known before purchasing or repairing a battery. There is always the opportunity to seek help from specialists, but increasing financial costs is not an option for many.

Additionally, it is worth remembering about free consultations from the seller: be sure to wait for the final answer from a specialist regarding the compatibility of the new battery with your car.

Important! Regardless of the driver’s loyalty to the car, it is impossible to extend the battery life. "AKOM" was created to operate for 4 years. After this time, problems will inevitably arise that will lead to even greater wear and tear on machine parts.

We charge the battery of a Lada Vesta car

There are many reasons that lead to device discharge. Here are a few of them:

  • the battery itself is initially deprived of quality conditions (factory defect);
  • low outside temperatures, at which the battery loses a lot of charge while parked;
  • During prolonged downtime, the possibility of discharge, especially of a new battery, cannot be ruled out.

The easiest and fastest way to return the LADA Vesta battery to “life” is to “light it”. To do this, we attract another car whose battery is fully charged. The “lighting up” process is carried out taking into account certain rules.

  1. Both cars must have all instruments and ignition turned off.
  2. On a faulty battery, disconnect the negative terminal.
  3. We stock up on a set of special cables with clamps. The cross-section of the wires must correspond to the power of the devices, the length is approximately 1.5 m.
  4. We connect the positive terminals of both cars with a red cable.
  5. The black cable is connected to the negative terminal of the battery on the donor car and to the body ground of the car whose battery is discharged.
  6. We start the engine on the “donor”, after which we perform a similar action on the “Vesta” with a discharged battery. Here you will have to “hold” the increased engine speed a little.
  7. We disconnect the wires, first the black one and then the red one.

Important! A procedure such as “lighting up” can have a negative impact on the control unit (ECU). The module is especially sensitive during low atmospheric temperatures.

Re: Current consumption at rest

Greetings, fellow sufferer. I have the same. After 5 days of inactivity, the battery was completely drained. And already 2 times in a row. I took the car in May, everything is standard (so don’t blame the signaling). First of all, thank you for the information about reducing the current after 15-20 minutes to an acceptable level. The warranty engineer assured that 0.32-0.35 amperes is the norm and this is the case for everyone. A basic calculation of ampere hours (3 hours - 1A/h. 1 week - 56 A/h) was not successful. They gave me a new battery and sent me on my way. I promised that I wouldn’t just leave him like that, I’d plant a new one and come back again. Be sure to write back if you solve the problem. Thank you.

Re: Current consumption at rest

Normal, average leakage current is 40mA. If your battery runs out after being idle, then in 95% of cases it is due to incorrectly installed electrical equipment. Alarm system, radio tape recorder, recorder and so on.

Re: Current consumption at rest

Dear Fan. You are not entirely attentive to the participants.)) “Everything is standard” - this means everything except the floor mats and the driver. And if you have ideas about the remaining 5% of cases, we will listen to you carefully.

. Who takes 0.35 amps for the first 15 minutes? Can this consumer not go to sleep and continue to suck 350mA for days? I myself understand that the car cannot break down, it’s made of iron. but it broke. ))) Crap. I remembered from an emergency. There was a flash drive in the radio.)))).. (luxury + multimedia equipment)

Re: Current consumption at rest

I don’t know what you have installed there. There are plenty of smart and correct articles about leaks, read them at your leisure. On Vesta, the electronics fall asleep only after 10-15 minutes. But part of the consumption goes on, the clock on the dashboard, MMC and ECU. More security.

Re: Current consumption at rest

I also forgot to answer - the remaining 5% includes standard electrical equipment, defects, and breakdowns. It could also be a generator. Or maybe it’s just a stupidly crappy battery.

“Everything is stock” – this means everything except the floor mats and the driver.

The remaining 5% includes standard electrical equipment, defects, and breakdowns. It could also be a generator. Or maybe it’s just a stupidly crappy battery.

If the replaced battery also runs down to zero, you need to take the OD by the trunk and let them look for a leak in the standard equipment.

Re: Current consumption at rest

I measured the leakage current on Vesta. Immediately upon connection - 1.5 A (the alarm is not turned on, the recorder is working) After 2 minutes. – 320 mlA (the recorder turned off, the door lighting circuits, power windows, the lamp with era-GLONASS, etc. were de-energized) After 15 minutes – 10 mlA (everything except the tidy and controller RAM was de-energized)

Re: Current consumption at rest

How did you measure it? Did you disconnect and reconnect the battery terminal at each measurement?

Re: Current consumption at rest

Disconnected the terminal from the battery. Any one is possible. I connected a multimeter between the battery terminal and the removed terminal. Multimeter in constant current mode 20A. Then I just watched. There is no need to disconnect the multimeter until the end of the measurement. It took me 15 minutes to do everything.

You wrote: “(everything was de-energized except the instrument panel and controller RAM)” – on what basis were the conclusions drawn? Is this just speculation or consumer testing?

I wrote this in general terms. To this you also need to add an alarm system that is not armed (it is always powered) and an MMS memory. The rest, I assume, is all de-energized. Otherwise, how to explain such a small current. Honestly, I expected to see a current in the region of 20-25 mA

Advantages and disadvantages

Ukrainian batteries TOP CAR, WESTA, ISTA, Viking have long occupied their reliable niche in the Ukrainian battery market, as an alternative to well-known brands from the middle price segment, an ideal price-quality ratio for a low price.

The buyer has the opportunity to choose a battery for any vehicle, agricultural. equipment, trucks, tractors, water transport.

Huge range of sizes, housing types: European, American Asian, starting currents and capacities: 35 Ah, 44 Ah, 45 Ah, 50 Ah, 55 Ah, 60 Ah, 65 Ah, 66 Ah, 70 Ah, 74 Ah, 80Ah, 90 Ah, 92 Ah, 100 Ah, 140 Ah, 190 Ah, 225 Ah and 230 Ah.

From this line, you can choose a non-standard capacity value for the most demanding motorists or a “reinforced” battery, that is, install a more capacious battery of the correct dimensions than provided by the manufacturer.

Ukrainian batteries are produced on the territory of Ukraine, which guarantees a stable price, since the cost of Ukrainian raw materials for the production of batteries does not depend on jumps in the dollar and Euro.

The price of Ukrainian batteries is not high, since recycled materials from used batteries are often used for production.

By purchasing a domestically produced battery, you are guaranteed to receive a recently released “fresh” copy, since the batteries are not stored in a warehouse, and they also do not need to be transported from other countries, which also wastes time.

Buying a TOP CAR and TOP CAR Asia battery produced at the MEGA TEX plant in the Donetsk region means providing domestic and foreign cars with a stable and reliable source of energy at an affordable price.

  1. Due to the increased number of high-density plates, the Top Car car battery produces high power and has increased resistance to cyclic modes (discharge-charge), ideal for city driving in start-stop mode.
  2. WESTA and ISTA batteries, produced near Dnepropetrovsk, are developed by engineers for cars that will be operated at very low or very high temperatures.
  3. The Vesta car battery is an ideal option for cars with a large number of energy consumers, such as tuning, heating, navigation, xenon and bi-xenon lighting equipment.
  4. The Viking battery (Silver, Gold, Bronze) is produced at the Megatex plant near Donetsk - the only plant with a full production cycle in Ukraine.

Due to their low price and high quality, Viking batteries are popular not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.

Viking batteries have non-standard capacity values - if the car owner wants to increase the battery capacity within the limits allowed for the car: 44 Ah, 50 Ah, 55 Ah, 60 Ah, 66 Ah, 74 Ah, 92 Ah, 100 Ah, 140 Ah, 190 Ah, 225 Ah .

Ukrainian batteries belong to the category of maintenance-free and low-maintenance batteries with reduced water consumption. Thanks to the simplicity of the design and the electrolyte indicator, it is possible to monitor the technical condition of the battery with minimal time and effort.

This is interesting: Pros and cons of a non-removable battery

In serviceable batteries, you just need to unscrew the containers and add distilled water to the mark if necessary. If the battery is idle for several months, it must be periodically charged using a stationary charger; if the car is used constantly, the generator itself recharges the battery. All batteries are certified and have a manufacturer's warranty.

The process of replacing a generator on a Lada Vesta

Replacing the generator on a Lada Vesta car is carried out according to the step-by-step instructions given below.

  • Place the car on an overpass or above an inspection hole.
  • Place wheel chocks under the rear wheels.
  • Secure the car with the parking brake.
  • Jack up the right front wheel.
  • Provide support to prevent the vehicle from falling.
  • Unscrew the fastenings of the right front wheel and remove it.
  • Unscrew the screws that secure the locker in the wheel arch.

Reasons for discharge

On the 2020 Vesta, released in the Luxury trim level, there is a factory mistake - self-discharge of the battery. The manufacturer himself points out this problem and recommends taking such actions. Swap certain contacts, which will automatically update the software version and reset all electronic unit errors. But it is better to entrust this procedure to specialists, especially if the car is still under warranty.

On other vehicle configurations, battery discharge is possible due to something else. For example, many owners, contrary to the ban, install high-power halogen lamps or simultaneously turn on fog lights with optics. The battery quickly loses capacity due to unnecessary additions. Unfortunately, no matter how new a domestic car is, it is far from being a foreign car. Therefore, you should always try not to load the electrical system.

Other common causes of discharge:

  • crooked installation of electrical-related equipment;
  • regular driving at speeds 1 and 2;
  • frequent movement over short distances within 30 km - while using many electrical appliances at the same time (powerful acoustics, heated steering wheel and seats);
  • cold weather and lack of thermal insulation of the car hood.

A low battery on a Lada Vesta can cause the doors to lock. They cannot be opened using the transmitter, but the manufacturer has taken this into account. You can also get into the cabin with a discharged battery. Here's what you need to do to do this:

  • remove the decorative cap of the handle by prying it by the groove from below with some sharp object;
  • clean any small debris that gets on the lock with a rag;
  • lubricate the larva with a special penetrating compound - warm the lock in the cold or use thawing special means;
  • open the door with the ignition key.
BarabasI installed a Vesta Red battery in my car. Starts without problems, even in severe frosts. Just what we need for our winter! It has never failed me yet, it works properly and the design is unusual.
Sasha VadI have negative experience using Westa RED batteries. It stayed with me for exactly 10 months (Lada Vesta car). I left for several months, the car was in the garage, and it was completely discharged. After charging it never came to life! The guys at the service station suggested that it was a calcium battery and when fully discharged it no longer worked.
PowerThe Premium 6ST-65 battery from the Russian manufacturer Akom worked for exactly six months. It just suddenly stopped charging and barely got into the car. Most likely, there was a short circuit between the banks; on Monday I’ll go to the service center to swear. I do not advise anyone to buy this battery.
Evgeniy SerovichThe standard battery worked for me on Vesta for about 2.5 years, which is not bad in principle, since it is a budget option. Now Bosch has installed it. I took a little more power than it came from the factory, so that it would not run out longer in the winter. I am very pleased with the purchase, it starts with half a turn, even in the most severe frost.
ZhekaInstall the Mutlu battery, purchased in 2020. No complaints, turns perfectly, does not boil, does not discharge. The Turkish manufacturer is more affordable in price than the European one, and much better than the Russian one.
ShroudI purchased two Russian batteries. To be honest, I'm very disappointed in their quality. One died after a year, the second still works somehow, but you have to constantly remove and recharge. It’s better not to save money and buy a more expensive manufacturer, Volt or Bosch.
Andrey755Immediately after purchasing the car, I removed the factory battery, from a domestic manufacturer, and replaced it with a more expensive and high-quality Bosch battery. The factory one, yes, fits all the characteristics, but neither I nor my mechanic friend trust this battery. Moreover, they write about some problems with discharge.
VVAHi all! I personally took a Tyumen battery 60 for myself! Starts in any frost, no problem! I recommend to everyone!
VazgenTo start the car in cold weather, you can’t even start it with a fully charged battery if your oil is too thick. In general, I believe that with the purchase of a battery, simple luck plays a big role. You can travel longer in a domestic car than in an imported one.
Kasper2506If there is a need to replace the battery, then select a battery so that the characteristics are not lower than those specified. You should not focus only on ampere hours, since products from different manufacturers with the same capacity can differ quite significantly in other parameters. When going to the store for a new battery, the selection procedure should be something like this: the polarity and size of the new and old batteries should match; as well as a unit of measurement of charge (in the old fashioned way called “capacity”). The amount of electricity that a battery is capable of delivering during a long-term discharge mode. We choose as recommended by the manufacturer (62 Ah). The capacity may be slightly higher than the nameplate. The starting current must be at least 600 A. This parameter is an indirect indicator of the quality of the car battery: the higher it is, the lower its internal resistance! In other words, the higher this parameter, the greater the chances of starting the engine in winter.
BoryanThere are a lot of negative reviews about West batteries. One gets the impression that they are not very suitable for this car. Immediately after the purchase, after reading dozens of reviews, I bought and installed a better battery.
