Replacing the air filter on VAZ cars.

Replacing the air filter on a VAZ 2107 injector

Replacing the air filter on a VAZ 2107 injector is not done as often as on a conventional carburetor engine. This does not exclude the fact that its serviceability and condition should not be monitored and changed in a timely manner.

And due to the frequent entry of dust into the DMVR, the functions of the filter element are lost and it wears out many times faster, which leads to premature replacement. On fuel-injected cars, the location of the air filter is under the air duct. And before replacing the old one with a new one, unscrew the air vent cap, lift it up and remove the old filter from its seat. Before positioning the new part, the air housing is wiped, and then installation is carried out.

Preparation

You don't need a whole set of tools when working with filters. You can get by with one 10mm wrench and a clean napkin or rag. You can change the air filter yourself in 10-15 minutes.

Filter models considered suitable for an injection engine are MANN C2443/1, LADA 21120-1109080-82. For a carburetor engine the filter element is round, and for the injector it is square.

Inexpensive domestic filters cost about 80 rubles. German SCT air filters are suitable for carburetor engines of VAZ 2101-2107, 2108-21099 cars and cost about one hundred rubles.

The choice of filter can also be made based on its type:

  • inertial - they are rare, but occur when replacing with a VAZ;
  • paper - a common type and have zero resistance.

How to remove and install correctly?

The process of replacing an old filter with a new one is carried out in two stages:

  • removing the old one;
  • installation of a new one.

Removal:

  • use a wrench to unscrew all the nuts that hold the air filter housing;
  • the cover is removed;
  • the air filter is removed from the housing;
  • The carburetor neck is covered with a clean rag to prevent dirt from getting inside;
  • The inner filter housing is being wiped.

Step-by-step instructions for installing a new air filter:

  • the new part is installed in the reverse order of removal;
  • The filter cover is inserted according to certain marks: if the air temperature in the environment is above 5 degrees, then the red mark “A” should be located near the warm air supply pipe, which is o. If the temperature is below -5 degrees, the red mark should be located near the air collection pipe, o.

How to replace the air filter on a VAZ 2110-VAZ 2112?

Welcome! Air filter - thanks to it, the air that enters the engine of your car is cleared of small particles of dust and dirt, so you must periodically monitor this filter, namely, check what condition it is in, etc.

Apparently, if this filter suddenly becomes very dirty, then all the dust from the dirty filter will fly into the inside of your car’s engine, and dust, by the way, has a very detrimental effect on the mirror part of the cylinders, namely, it erases it like sandpaper, so after a while on the mirror part veins begin to appear and it becomes less smooth, due to this it becomes more difficult for the pistons to walk along the less smooth part and thus there is a slight wear of the pistons due to a clogged filter, but still this mainly affects only the mirror part of the cylinder, so this The filter needs to be changed from time to time and a new one installed in place of the old one; read about how to do this below.

Note! In order to replace the air filter, you will need to take with you: A screwdriver, and you will also need to stock up on a set of wrenches that will include the main (Which are used almost everywhere) keys, and also preferably stock up on a more or less clean rag!

Where is the air filter located? It is located inside the filter housing itself, namely on injection cars this housing is located a little closer to the front of the car, so this housing can be easily seen by first opening the hood of the car and then looking at the engine, namely closer to the front parts, and there you can very easily see this housing in which the air filter is located.

When do you need to change the air filter? We have already written about this topic more than once, many argue that the filter needs to be changed after a certain mileage of the car, basically this figure is about 15,000 thousand km for a carburetor and about 25,000 thousand km for an injector, but that’s all It’s not a matter of mileage, and even to be honest, you don’t have to look at the mileage at all, because from time to time you only need to look at the condition of the filter, which can become clogged at any time and even after 10,000 thousand km it may require replacement.

Note! You can find more details about when you need to change this filter and why it is needed in general in the interesting article: “Why do you need an air filter and the frequency of its replacement”!

By the way, about the most important thing, that is, how you can easily understand that your air filter is clogged, firstly, when it is clogged, the power of your car will decrease, albeit slightly, but still, the car will drive a little worse, and also increase its fuel consumption, because with a clogged filter, less air will pass into the cylinders, and in connection with this, the injectors will add a little fuel to the manifold so that the car drives more or less, and in conclusion, we note that with a clogged filter, starting the engine in severe frost is more It will be more difficult for a car in which this filter is in an absolutely clean condition!

Note! Before you start replacing, remember one important point for yourself, namely when working with electronics, for example with various wire blocks (Then you will understand what we are talking about), as well as with other electrical wires, be sure to remove them before starting work , disconnect from the “minus” terminal on the battery, which is located, the terminal that is connected to this minus, thereby you will de-energize the battery and when working with electronics you will not have any problems, otherwise suddenly, for example, water will get on the exposed wire and the battery will be turned on, as a result of which you will then also need to change the wiring! (For information on how to disconnect the negative terminal from the terminal, see the article: “Replacing the battery on a VAZ”, point 1)

Injector: 1) At the very beginning of the operation, you will first need to unscrew the pair of screws that secure the top cover to the main filter body and then, when the four screws are unscrewed, carefully lift the cover and put it somewhere to the side so as not to interfere.

Note! Under no circumstances should you place this cover on a hot engine (if it is warmed up), otherwise it may simply melt, and when removing this cover, always remember this thing: do not completely remove it from the car and put it on the ground happen (Unless, of course, you loosen the clamp that secures the pipe to this cover), and there’s no point in doing so, you can simply put this cover aside, that’s all!

2) Now that the top cover is set aside, carefully remove the old air filter and install a new one in its place, and then tighten all the screws that secure the top cover.

Note! Before installing a new filter, be sure to clean it of any labels that are glued to it when purchasing, and also pay special attention to the lower part of the filter cover housing (This one, by the way, will also need to be wiped with a rag to remove all dust and dirt) , on this delicate part you will see the direction of the arrows in which you will have to install a new filter, namely the arrows are the direction of the corrugations on the filter!

Carburetor: 1) First, stock up on a wrench and, using it, unscrew the central nut securing the top cover (Red arrow), and after unscrewing, carefully remove this cover from the car, also unfastening all four latches that secure it.

Note! For clarity, one of all four latches in the top photo is indicated by a blue arrow!

2) Then, when the central nut is removed and all the latches are also unfastened, take your hand and lift the top cover of the filter housing and then put it somewhere, for example on the ground.

3) After the cover is lying on the ground, take the old filter with your hand and remove it and clean the entire inside of the case with a rag from unnecessary dust and dirt, and only after that install the new filter, and put on the top cover that covers the case and screw it up this cover using the central nut and all four latches.

Note! We are convinced that replacing the air filter on cars is not so difficult, so in order to get more material into your head, we suggest you watch a video below in which, using the example of a VAZ 2109 car, this filter is replaced, on dozens of replacement if anything is done identically!

This video explains how to change the air filter on a VAZ 2110 injector.

Carburetor VAZ 2105

What is a carburetor and what are its functions? Today, carburetor modifications of vehicles are considered to be “outdated”, since they have been replaced by more “tenacious” injection ones.

So, the carburetor is the most important mechanism in a car engine. Its main purpose is to prepare the fuel-air mixture and supply it to the engine cylinders. Simply put, a carburetor is needed to ensure that the engine receives fuel in the doses necessary for operation.

The air filter was removed for demonstration; the carburetor is located directly below the filter housing.

Carburetor design

The engines of the VAZ 2105 car are equipped with carburetors of type 2105–1107010. This number must be indicated on a black plate, which is attached to the cover of the carburetor itself.

The device has two chambers so that the processes of formation of the fuel-air mixture and its supply to the cylinders occur quickly and correctly. In fact, structurally, the carburetor has a huge number of small parts interconnected, but technically the device is not considered complex.

The cast body combines many small parts, each of which performs its own function

In order for the engine to operate in different modes (warm-up, idling, medium load and high speed), the carburetor consists of three main parts:

  1. The upper one consists of the device cover and fittings for fuel supply.
  2. The middle one is the carburetor body itself, which houses two internal combustion chambers and diffusers.
  3. Lower - includes the float chamber and throttle valves.

Parts of the carburetor body 2107–1107010: 1 — rod of the pneumatic drive of the second throttle valve; 2 — pneumatic drive housing; 3 - diaphragm; 4 — pneumatic drive cover; 5 — fuel jet of the transition system of the second chamber; 6 — fuel nozzle body; 7 — small diffuser of the second chamber; 8 — accelerator pump nozzle; 9 — screw valve of the accelerator pump; 10 — main air jet of the second chamber; 11 — emulsion tube of the second chamber; 12 — main air jet of the first chamber; 13 — emulsion tube of the first chamber; 14 — main fuel jet of the second chamber; 15 — main fuel jet of the first chamber; 16 — accelerator pump adjusting screw; 17 — fuel jet of the idle system; 18 — fuel nozzle body; 19 — return spring of the accelerator pump; 20 — accelerator pump diaphragm; 21 — accelerator pump cover; 22 — small diffuser of the first chamber; 23 — lever return spring; 24 — three-arm air damper control lever; 25 — connection rod with the throttle valve; 26 — throttle valve return spring bracket

The essence of the operation of the carburetor unit on the VAZ 2105 comes down to the following processes:

  1. A strictly limited amount of gasoline enters the float chamber through a special valve.
  2. Fuel is directed through the jets to chamber No. 1.
  3. Here, gasoline is crushed into tiny pieces and mixed with parts of air.
  4. If the maximum amount of fuel is required (for example, during acceleration), then chamber No. 2 begins to work in the same way.
  5. After the fuel-air mixture is formed, the accelerator pump directs the fuel to the diffusers and then directly to the cylinders.

How to replace the air filter on a VAZ 2110-VAZ 2112?

The main purpose of the air filter is to clean the incoming air flow from the surrounding air from dust, dirt, pollen and other contaminants. Paper, foam rubber, felt or cloth can be used as a filter material. There are special zero resistance filters that allow you to increase engine power by 3-5%. It makes sense to install a zero filter on sports cars.

Zero resistance consumable

Over time, any filter, including zero-resistance filters, becomes dirty. The service life of the filter element is affected by the degree of environmental pollution and operating conditions.

When the filter element becomes dirty, the following problems arise:

  • the throughput of the filter material decreases;
  • fuel consumption increases;
  • the quality of the fuel-air mixture entering the cylinders deteriorates;
  • Engine power drops.

From a dirty consumable, abrasive particles can enter the cylinders and damage the surfaces of rubbing parts.

To eliminate the problems that have arisen, it is necessary to either clean the dirty element or replace it with a new one. The advantage of a zero-resistance filter is the fact that it is enough to wash the product with a special composition and it restores its properties.

It is advisable to replace it after 15,000 kilometers. When operating a car in a metropolis or rural area with dirt roads, it is better to replace it after 5-7 thousand kilometers.

Sorry, there are no surveys available at this time.

An air filter is used to prevent dirt and dust from entering the engine. Naturally, it becomes clogged over time and needs to be changed. As with other cars, a new filter is installed on the VAZ-2110 after a certain mileage.

It is advisable to change the air filter of almost any car every 10–15 thousand km, and not 30,000 km, as the manufacturer recommends. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the degree of pollution of the surrounding air and the operating conditions of the vehicle, which directly determine how quickly the filter element becomes unusable.

The need to replace a dirty air filter is obvious. Not only will the engine begin to “choke” due to an insufficient amount of air in the fuel mixture, which will not burn completely, but the power will decrease and gasoline consumption will increase, but the engine may also begin to overheat, have difficulty starting “in cold” and run unstably at idle – the potential troubles don’t end there.

The filter will not only allow less air to pass through, but the air that is still drawn through it will practically not be cleaned. Abrasive particles from dirty air can get directly into the engine cylinders and damage the surfaces of the rubbing parts - rings and liner walls. The tightness of their contact will decrease - the compression will drop. The oil remaining in the cylinder scratches will begin to burn and its consumption will increase. And so on.

Before replacing, turn off the engine, put the car on the handbrake and, to be safe, engage first or reverse gear, disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

Behind the filter on the pipe, disconnect the connector with the cable from the air flow sensor by squeezing the plastic latch from below with a finger or a screwdriver.

Unscrew the 4 screws securing the filter housing cover.

Loosen the clamp of the air outlet pipe on the cover mount. The latter is carefully lifted, removing it from the clamp. The cap is turned over and then placed on the battery. During this operation, you must try not to damage the corrugation of the pipe.

Remove the filter element.

Replacing the carburetor

Replacing a carburetor is not as complicated a process as an inexperienced car owner might imagine. If the device has failed and you need to install a new one, then it is quite possible to complete this task yourself.

Preparing the tools

To replace the carburetor on a VAZ 2105, you will need a standard set of tools:

  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • a screwdriver with a flat and thin blade;
  • standard set of keys;
  • socket heads (or knobs).

It is recommended to prepare a rag, as working fluids may leak during the process of removing the device.

It is important to install the car in a convenient place in advance so that nothing restricts movements during work

Work process

The carburetor is located in the engine compartment of the car, immediately under the “pan”, that is, under the air filter housing. The work begins with dismantling the old carburetor:

Remove the air filter housing. You will need to disconnect all lines and rods connected to it from the carburetor body.

The order of disconnection does not matter; it is important to promptly cover the hoses and tubes with a clean rag to reduce fuel losses. After all the lines are disconnected, you will need to unscrew the fastening nuts from the studs. The carburetor is attached to the body with 4 studs; by removing the nuts, you can remove the device from the car.

Accordingly, installing a new carburetor is done in the reverse order.

It is important not to forget to change the seal between the manifold and the carburetor, even if the gasket is still in working order

Video: how to replace a carburetor with your own hands

After installing the new carburetor and connecting all its systems, it is recommended to immediately start the engine to make sure all your actions are correct.

Thus, the carburetor on a VAZ 2105, regardless of the year of manufacture and modification, can be adjusted and replaced on your own. It is worth considering the fact that inside the cast iron body there are sensitive elements that must be checked at least once a year for wear and contamination.

VAZ-2114: changing the filter with your own hands

It is worth noting that the replacement procedure is quite simple, and even beginners can handle it:

  • So, open the hood and find the air filter housing. It is located to the right of the engine.
  • Next we need to unscrew the four screws around the perimeter of the plastic cover.
  • Then the body rises up. A dirty air filter will be visible in front of us. They are not secured by anything - the element simply sits in the grooves of the cover. Therefore, we take it out with our hands and install the new element in the same way.
  • It is recommended to first clean the inside of the case from dust. To do this, use a soft rag soaked in gasoline or glass cleaner. Make sure that the edges of the filter (orange) are strictly in their grooves.
  • The element is installed with the corrugation down. After making sure that the filter is tightly installed in the housing, close the lid.
  • It is better to tighten the screws “crosswise”.

This completes the air filter replacement successfully.

Solex

Immediately after the DAAZ, without retreating a step, comes the Solex model. This is one of the heaviest carburetors in terms of installation. Removing this device from the engine is not a problem, but installing it on the 2107 engine requires a lot of work.

The Solex circuit is the same as the others, but its design is somewhat different. To install it on a car, you will need to purchase some additional parts: a throttle cable from a VAZ 2108, a return tee, a longer fuel hose and a return valve from the G8. Design features of the Solex included 2 chambers with increased volume. This enabled the engine to perform better, namely: increase acceleration speed, rated speed and power. Of course, with such an improvement in performance, there was one drawback - increased fuel consumption. Therefore, the Solex was considered more amateur than for everyday use. Just like Ozone, it had modifications 1107010 and 1107010 - 20. It can be installed on both the VAZ 2107 and 2105.

Basic mechanisms and systems

To perform its functions, the carburetor has the following systems and mechanisms:

  1. System for maintaining the required fuel level;
  2. System for starting and warming up a cold engine;
  3. Idle system;
  4. Main dosing system;
  5. Acceleration pump;
  6. Econostat system.

Good old VAZ: love for life. The three systems listed first in the list are subject to tuning. The VAZ 2105 carburetor in question can be adjusted without removing it from the car. Since the units of cars of models 2105 and 2107 are identical in structure and differ only in the diameters of the holes of the fuel and air nozzles, in the same way it will not be difficult to make a similar adjustment for the VAZ 2107.

What is an air filter

An air filter is a device that filters the air entering the fuel system. All modern cars are equipped with air filters, including the Lada family with carburetor and injection systems.

The main purpose of the air filter is to clean the incoming air from sand, dust, soot, midges, small particles, plant seeds and other substances. The absence of the product in question will lead to the fact that all of the above-mentioned substances will enter directly into the fuel system, and after a short time it will simply be clogged.

It is important to know! All types of cars, including the VAZ 2107, must have an air filter, and it is necessary to monitor its condition and, if necessary, replace it in a timely manner. https://www.youtube.com/embed/jcxrpgecbhw

A clogged element negatively affects engine performance, since air must pass through the device to enter the fuel system. This reduces engine power accordingly. The resistance of the product in question is quite high, but in its absence the consequences for the car will be simply catastrophic.

In a car of the classic VAZ 2107 family, the design of filters for the injection and carburetor injection systems is different. For the injector, the product in question has a rectangular shape, and on carburetor engines round-shaped filters are installed. Both types of products consist of a plastic housing and a filter element. This element is presented in the form of paper, which contains micro-pores and traps all types of small particles.

Since the creation of the part in question, many varieties have appeared. Types of air filters are divided into the following options:

  1. Inertial. The first products that are now used extremely rarely.
  2. Inertia-oil. They are also considered obsolete, so they are used extremely rarely today. Their main difference from inertial ones is the presence of oil at the bottom of the body of the product, which is intended to hold large and small particles.
  3. Paper. Some of the most common types are shown in the photo above.
  4. Products with zero resistance. Instead of a paper element, foam rubber or cotton fabric is used.

How often to change the air filter on a car

Replacing the part in question depends on the condition of the filter element. The condition of this element is influenced by factors such as the terrain in which the vehicle is operated, the frequency of operation of the vehicle, and the seasons. The VAZ-2107 injector air filter needs to be replaced somewhat less frequently than on carburetor models. In some manuals you can find a figure of 30 thousand kilometers - this is the recommended mileage for replacing the part in question. In reality, this figure does not mean anything, since the main condition for replacement is clogging of the filter element.

The part in question cannot be repaired, but if the filter elements are in good condition, that is, there is no damage and its color has not changed much. It is necessary to change the air filter because when it is clogged, fuel consumption increases. If the injection “sevens” have an on-board computer that displays an increase in consumption, then on the classics you have to rely on your memory.

How to replace it yourself

Let's look at how to replace the air filter on a VAZ-2107 car with a fuel injection system. The replacement procedure is as follows:

  1. First you need to open the hood, then use a screwdriver to unscrew the 4 bolts securing the air filter housing.
  2. Lift the air cover by applying slight force.
  3. After this, you can safely remove the product.
  4. The inside of the lid must be wiped with a damp cloth.
  5. After this, you need to place a new element inside the housing in the direction of the arrow and install the cover in place, screwing it with 4 bolts.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that the cost of the product in question is low enough to risk clogging the fuel system. A regular paper filter costs about 150-200 rubles, so be sure to check this product periodically and replace it in a timely manner.

In order to change the air filter on a carburetor seven, you need to perform similar actions, which you can learn about from the video below.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=6GC8i79faZM

Instructions: how to change the air filter on a VAZ 2114 yourself, photo + video

The operation of replacing the air filter on a VAZ 2114, according to technical documentation, should be carried out every 30 thousand kilometers. But depending on operating conditions, more frequent replacement of the filter element may be required.

To carry out the work you will need a new air filter. The most popular for VAZ 2114 are: S9661 (Bosh), C22117 (Mann), U505 (Champion), CA3399 (Fram). The only tools you need are a Phillips screwdriver or a screwdriver.

1.Raise the hood and find the air filter housing.

2. Press the lock of the mass air flow sensor and disconnect it. This is done in order not to accidentally damage the wires, the replacement of which will require much more time, and in addition to this - additional financial costs.

3.Then you can disconnect the inlet hose by first loosening the clamp on it. This is also optional. If you think that the cover will not interfere with your further actions, then you can not disconnect it, but move it to the side along with the hose.

4.The cover is secured with four screws. Unscrew them and open the air filter housing.

5.Remove the old element. As a rule, contaminants also accumulate in the internal cavity. They need to be cleaned by any convenient means (vacuum cleaner, compressor, damp cloth, etc.)

6. Place the new filter element inside the housing.

Make sure that the sealing rubber adheres firmly to the walls

It is also important to pay attention to the inscription and arrow inside the housing, which indicates the correct location of the filter bellows

7.Put the cover in place and tighten the screws. We connect the sensor and hose.

This completes the replacement of the air filter on the VAZ 2114.

Consequences of untimely replacement

If you do not change the filter in time, repairs cannot be avoided. A contaminated part negatively affects engine performance, since air must constantly pass through the element to get into the fuel tank and system. This may result in low engine power.

The filter element has quite a large resistance, but if it is absent altogether, the consequences for the machine will be terrifying.

A dirty and clogged filter not only does not perform its direct functions, but also entails a number of negative aspects:

  • fuel consumption increases;
  • low engine power;
  • job instability;
  • polluted air;
  • overhaul of the machine.

Therefore, the problem of replacing the filter element on a VAZ should be approached seriously in order to avoid serious damage in the future.

Replacing the air filter of VAZ 2105, 2107, 2108 on carburetor and injection engines is simple, quick and without much outside help. The main thing is to replace it in a timely manner and monitor the quality of the selected filters.

Oil in the air filter on a VAZ-2114: what to do?

Sometimes when replacing you can see traces of oil on the surface of the filter.

This is a bad sign. In this case, the following problems are possible:

  • Critical wear of piston wheels (in particular, oil scraper wheels). Thus, increased oil pressure occurs in the system, and it is squeezed out through the ventilation valve.
  • The oil deflector drain is clogged. Because of this, oil particles cannot return back to the crankcase.
  • The crankcase gas exhaust hose is clogged. It goes right into the intake manifold. During normal ventilation, gases move from the crankcase to the throttle. In this case, a slight oil deposit on the walls of the pipe is allowed. But if the hose is clogged, the pressure in the system will increase. Oil will start coming out of all holes, including getting onto the air filter. The way out of the situation is to clean or replace the crankcase ventilation valve. With the engine turned off, it should only blow in one direction.
  • The air filter is dirty. Oddly enough, the dirty element itself can cause this phenomenon. Why is this happening? The motor does not have enough air, which is why it begins to suck it from any sources. This could be a crankcase with oil vapors. This problem is solved by installing a new air filter.
