Surprisingly, despite the good handling, smoothness and energy consumption - a distinctive feature of the B0 - remained at the same level: you can rush without really understanding the roads, although you will have to turn on the music - the suspension is quite noisy. The Sandero seemed quieter in terms of noise from the suspension. At highway speeds it becomes less fun - the gear ratios are such that the engine noise starts to get annoying at high speeds. In addition, there is a certain goatiness in the rear; there is no such thing on Logan and Vesta. There is also yaw in turns, in ruts - I attribute it to large wheels and track width - it is different for the axles. Otherwise, no revelations: reliable, pronounced understeer, boring.

Why buy a car that is positioned almost like a crossover and has crossover ground clearance and certain inclinations, such as geometry, ground clearance and design? We check the oil level in the oil pan with the engine not running, placing the car on a flat horizontal platform. If the engine was running before checking, then stop it.

We wait at least three minutes (the oil should have time to drain into the engine sump) and remove the oil level indicator.

Wipe the pointer with a clean cloth and insert it into the guide tube until it stops. We take out the indicator again and use the edge of the oil film on it to determine the oil level in the engine oil pan. The edge of the oil film should be on the indicator, in the area with the notch.

Operating a vehicle with the oil level on the gauge below the notched area can lead to engine damage and, as a result, to expensive repairs. When the oil level is low, turn counterclockwise and remove the oil filler cap.

Add oil into the engine through the neck in small portions.

Drain the oil for at least ten minutes.

We wrap and tighten the drain plug. We remove oil leaks from the engine oil pan.

When changing the oil, the oil filter must be replaced.

Unscrew the oil filter by rotating it counterclockwise.

If this cannot be done manually, loosen the filter with a puller. If there is no puller, we pierce the filter housing with a powerful screwdriver (closer to the bottom of the filter, so as not to damage the motor fitting) and unscrew the filter, using the screwdriver as a lever.

Start the engine and let it idle for 10 minutes.

How the robot works

I can say that the cross-country ability is not bad, but the robot box often behaves incorrectly. If you go uphill, it resets the gear automatically, depriving the engine of the required power; when climbing, you have to switch to manual control. On a flat road, the robot is delayed by a couple of seconds when switching to a new speed, this affects the dynamics, and difficulties arise with acceleration when overtaking.

Adding tap water to the cooling system may damage the cooling system. The use of tap water and antifreezes based on methanol and other alcohols in the cooling system is not allowed.

Again I had to contact AvtoVAZ and they advised me to use thicker oil, and if this does not help, then I will have to change the cylinder head. And just as we were about to change it, the smoke decreased, and the oil began to be used up as it should.

This is not the first time we have had to test cars with the B0 platform, and each time some problems arose. So Khrey was no exception to this pattern. After covering 18 thousand km, the rear shock absorber failed. Wear of the stabilizer struts was also revealed, although at 27 thousand km. If there is no puller, we pierce the filter housing with a screwdriver (closer to the bottom, so as not to damage the engine fitting) and unscrew the filter, using the screwdriver as a lever.

Remove the oil filter.

We clean the filter seat on the cylinder block from dirt and oil drips.

We wrap the oil filter by hand until the sealing ring touches the seating surface of the oil filter bracket.

Then turn the filter another 3/4 turn to seal the connection.

Pour 3.75 liters of oil into the engine through the oil filler neck.

Screw the neck cap clockwise.

We start the engine for 1-2 minutes. We make sure that the warning lamp for (emergency) engine oil pressure in the instrument cluster has gone out and that there are no leaks from under the plug or filter. If necessary, tighten the oil filter and drain plug.

We stop the engine, after a few minutes (so that the oil flows into the crankcase pan), check the oil level (see “Checking the oil level in the engine crankcase pan,” p. 28) and bring it to normal.

What kind of oil to pour into the radiator?

Each of the engines that are offered to choose from, by their nature, imposes the same requirements during operation. However, there is one difficulty. Depending on the operating conditions, the machine will require a certain oil. Speaking of a universal choice, it is advisable to give preference to synthetics, but the engine accepts other options. The choice should be made as follows: high load - synthetics, medium load - semi-synthetics, rare trips - even mineral will do. By the way, if we are talking about the northern regions, preference should still be given to semi-synthetics - they perform better at low temperatures.

The official developers of AvtoVAZ recommend Lukoil oil for long-term and uninterrupted operation of their creations, supporting the already well-known and popular domestic manufacturer of auto lubricants. However, experienced car owners know that it won’t be any worse if they choose oils from other world-famous manufacturers for their own cars. Shell and Castrol brands of oil are perfect for cars; Mobil and Esso brands are also very popular.

All known high-quality oils of similar structure and density differ from each other in 2 parameters: price and quality. Price does not necessarily guarantee the quality of oils. On the market you can also find inexpensive lubricants from little-known manufacturers, which, however, have a fairly high level of quality. Therefore, the manufacturer does not play a special role when choosing engine oil: the main thing is that all other parameters coincide with those recommended by the manufacturer for this particular engine.

Structure

Based on their structure, oils are divided into mineral, synthetic, and semi-synthetic. Despite the fact that synthetic ones are more expensive, nevertheless, they are very popular among domestic car owners. Semi-synthetic oils are less stable at low temperatures, so they are not used as all-season oils. Mineral oils heavily contaminate the oil filter and increase wear on moving parts due to chemical attack on metal parts as temperatures rise. Although they are the cheapest and most profitable oils, they are still used only by a limited number of car owners.

All types of oils can be used for a Lada X Rey car, regardless of what engine model is installed. You just need to be able to navigate the general properties of oils of different compositions in order to predict their behavior in different situations and climatic conditions.

Density

Another important parameter is oil density. Oil has the ability to change its physical properties and characteristics depending on the ambient temperature. Therefore, in regions located far from each other, different oils will be used due to the difference in average temperatures.

The denser the oil, the higher the temperature it can withstand, the slower it is consumed. But oil that is too dense increases the load on the engine, which accelerates wear and increases fuel consumption. Liquid oil leads to increased abrasion of moving mechanisms at a fairly high oil consumption. Therefore, it is recommended to change the oil in Khrey once every six months, during seasonal inspections. This way you can choose the most suitable oil for summer and winter. Thanks to this care, the service life of the engine and gearbox will increase. When changing the oil, it is recommended to simultaneously replace the filters.

VAZ cars are often called “buckets” and “basins” (from “Togliatti Automobile Plant”). And some, including me, come up with diminutive nicknames. So, is the XRAY pseudo-crossover a “basin” or a good “vasik”?

At the time of preparation of this material, sales of Xray had not yet begun and therefore there was no accurate information about either the factory maintenance schedule or the time menu (the official grid of operations in standard hours). Therefore, we again, as in the case of Vesta (ZR, 2020, No. 2), decided to move away from the usual point estimates based on standard hours and compare XRAY with the related Sandero.

At first, XRAY will be equipped only with a Nissan HR16 engine with a volume of 1.6 liters (110 hp) paired with a five-speed Renault JH3 manual transmission. Later they promise domestic engines - 1.6 (106 hp) from Vesta and the long-awaited 1.8 (122 hp), as well as VAZ’s AMT robotic gearbox.

The attachment drive of the Nissan engine was deprived of a tensioner roller. When replacing, the old belt is cut off, and a new one is installed using special tools or pulled by hand onto the water pump pulley, while simultaneously rotating the crankshaft pulley. A similar operation on Sandero engines is much simpler, since a tensioner roller is provided.

We begin the removal of the pipeline by disconnecting all the hoses from it and the two crankcase ventilation lines from the valve cover. Next, we dismantle the pipe from the air filter housing to the throttle and the connectors from the pressure and intake air temperature sensors. We unscrew the electronic damper housing from the manifold and move it to the side. The connector on the throttle does not interfere with further work, as do the hoses for cooling it with antifreeze. The pipeline is fixed at the bottom with five long “10” bolts on the block head, and at the top with two shorter ones on the valve cover. For easy access to the lower mounts, remove the air intake. It has a simple fixation. All gaskets on the pipeline are reusable. When reassembling, lubricate the seat of the pipe on the air filter housing, otherwise you will have a hard time installing it.
