Examples of industrial devices
Serial production of 220V engine heaters has been established both for domestic models and for installation on any car. Preheaters of the following models are suitable for installation on the VAZ model:
- Device "Street child". The model is designed for installation on Volzhsky Automobile Plant vehicles, taking into account the dimensions of the pipes. The cost does not exceed 1.3 thousand rubles.
- Product "Start mini". It has a simple design with the creation of natural thermosiphon circulation in the circuit. Cost – about 1,000 rubles. It has several modifications for installation on different motors.
- Models of the Start type - M1/M2, Siberia-M will also provide engine heating for domestic models. Price range from 1000 to 1800 rubles.
Among the new generation models, Severs-M heaters are distinguished, which are equipped with an emergency switch and are adapted to some popular models of foreign manufacturers.
If you need to choose a 220V engine preheater, you should pay attention to the products of the Hotstart company from the USA. Here you can find models of varying degrees of complexity:
- TPS line. It has a wide range of vertical models depending on the diameter of the thermostat pipe or are available with a built-in thermostat. They are compact and maintainable.
- Line of devices type CB, SB, CL, WL, EE. It features a horizontal layout, power from 1.5 to 5 kW, and is designed for installation with engines from 2.0 l to 10.0 l.
- Model type HOTflow. If you need to install an effective heater with a pump, you should pay attention to the devices of this group. The power of the samples ranges from 1 to 144 kW.
Recently, the installation of an engine preheater has become possible with models from Chinese manufacturers. Moreover, such products are often equipped with special sockets. Those who have installed budget models know that the main inconvenience of 220V heaters is the need to open the hood every time they are connected. That is why the choice is often made in favor of an autonomous heater. Therefore, a remote socket is a significant advantage of some models.

Hello everyone, it’s time for a report on the installation of the 220V Alliance pre-heater.
I’ll say right away that I use it all winter to pre-heat the car and start it in any frost while parked on the street. Of course, there are some operating nuances about them below. A little theory:
BY INSTALLING A HEATER, YOU WILL SAVE FUEL, INCREASE ENGINE LIFE AND REDUCE THE EMISSION OF TOXIC GASES INTO THE ATMOSPHERE!
The operation of preheaters is based on the principle of convection or natural circulation of liquid. When the liquid is heated in the heater, the density decreases and the liquid rises up, leaves the heater and goes into the engine, where, having given off heat, it falls down to the inlet of the heater. There is a constant movement of liquid in a closed cycle. To avoid overheating of the coolant, a thermal relay is installed in the heater housing, which, when the maximum temperature is reached in my case 80*C, turns off the heating element of the heater.
Before installation, it wouldn’t hurt to check the cooling system and thermostat. The heater is designed for antifreeze or antifreeze. The cooling system is not allowed to contain sediment or foreign matter, as well as any additives to eliminate radiator leaks.
Engine heating boiler through a cooling system 1500 W ALLIANCE VAZ-1117/18 (8-16kl)
Automotive electric heater ALLIANCE for Lada Kalina cars with 8 and 16 valves
1.5 kW is intended for pre-heating of coolant of internal combustion engines of vehicles during the cold season.
Specifications:
- Supply voltage, V 220
- Power consumption, W no more than 1500
- Thermostat response temperature (shutdown), 75-80°C
- Thermostat return temperature (switching on), 50°C
- Electric shock protection class I
- Degree of protection against moisture IP34
Installation and operation:
Installation:
The electric heater must not touch the engine or other parts of the vehicle.
The electric heater must be installed in a vertical position with the outlet pipe facing up, with a slight tilt allowed (no more than 15°).
- Drain the coolant by removing the cylinder block drain plug.
- Cut sleeves 110 mm long for the input and 280 mm for the output.
- Secure the bracket to the electric heater with M6×30 bolts using spring washers and nuts.
- Apply sealant to the threads of the K1/8 fitting and screw it in instead of the drain plug.
- Unscrew the upper bolt securing the front engine mount, then secure the bracket with the heater with the bolt.
- Place the inlet hose onto fitting K1/8 and connect it to the inlet pipe of the electric heater. Tighten with clamps.
- To install the tee, cut the sleeve connecting the cylinder head and the upper radiator pipe closer to the head. First, clarify the location of the cut, for which connect one end of the outlet sleeve to the heater, and the other end to the tee, and perform fitting. The position of the tee will be correct if, after connecting it to the cut sleeve, the outlet sleeve of the heater is not tensioned.
- Seal all connections by tightening the clamps.
- Fill the engine cooling system with coolant.
- Secure the power cord to the car body so that there is no contact with moving or heated parts of the engine.
Preparing for the first launch:
- Fill the cooling system, check connections for leaks.
- Start the car engine and let it run for 5-10 minutes. Then stop the engine and add coolant if necessary.
- Connect the electric heater to the network.
- After 2-5 minutes of operation of the electric heater, check the inlet and outlet hoses. The outlet sleeve must be warmer than the inlet sleeve.
Precautionary measures:
- The heater can be operated only after the engine has warmed up to operating temperature (the thermostat must be open) and the efficiency of the interior heater has been checked. This must be done to eliminate air locks in the cooling system.
- Do not use electrical extension cords without a grounding wire or rated for current less than 10 A.
- It is forbidden to plug in the electric heater with the cover removed.
- Do not use the heater if there is no coolant in it.
- After warming up, before starting the engine, the electric heater must be disconnected from the network.

But I didn’t bother myself: I threw out the plastic ball-valve from the heater and installed an electric pump. When I set it to warm up, I turn on both the heater and the pump at 220 via the power supply. The pump is connected to the fuse of the heater motor, now when I turn on the pump via the power supply, the heater motor also spins, so the interior also heats up, although there is one drawback - warming up takes longer. From the car network, the pump starts working when the generator starts working.

I did the same thing this year, and installed the boiler last year, but without a pump it was kind of lousy and took a long time to heat. I installed a pump and it began to heat up faster and more evenly.

Moreover, if the boiler is paired with a pump, it does not need to be tilted to the lowest point, which is quite problematic on the frontier. And then I put it where it’s convenient, as long as the air comes out of the boiler and that’s it - and there the pump will help the liquid move. I installed the pump immediately after the coolant left the block, from the pump the coolant goes under pressure to the original stove (excessive pressure prevents the stove from airing), from it to the additional stove in the cabin and then to the entrance to the block (the original pump)

to begin with, you remove the pipe going from the block to the stove, because on our engine there is a fitting with a tube on the block and there is a drain hole, then you go to a store for our brands and buy a set of pipes from the stove on the TAZ-01, 2 of them. one long with the letter G. the second short with the letter ZY. the one with the letter ZYU. you put it on the tube from the block and on the heater input, the one with the letter G on the heater output and to the stove. everything should fit perfectly, but only on the condition that the diameter of the pipes matches the heater, so try it right away on the original pipe.

there is no coolant drain near the fitting, there is a mental channel there (tested from personal experience)
I didn’t install it last year, and I can’t adapt it this year either, maybe someone has it at 2.3, it’s too relevant

Yesterday I installed this device for myself, placed it under the turbine, and there is a leg there, so that a tee with brake pipes and a heat insulator are attached to it. I scrolled along the top of the tee, there is a pin with a sufficient thread length. I had to bend the Alyanov bracket a little and drill a hole in it higher . I took the coolant supply from the block through a tee (purchased in advance) so that one end looked down the other side of the stove (after cutting, a pipe is put on it) The one that is down to the boiler inlet, the outlet from the boiler to the fitting screwed in instead of the USR control sensor (fitting from the kit) To push the boiler itself in, I had to unscrew the heat insulator and tee and move it to the side and then return to the place. It turned out that the boiler works as it should and does not heat anything unnecessary (just tested at -23 degrees, 15 minutes after turning on the engine, it felt warm to the touch, confident start with the first time without waiting for the heating of the ALLIANCE 99 spark plugs FOR GAZ 405 AND 406 ENGINES
