Priora front lever silent block

Important points

  • It can be difficult to remove the silent block fastening nut (during operation it becomes very rusty and is often literally welded to the bolt). Therefore, it makes sense to put a 19 piece of pipe on the socket wrench. This will increase leverage and reduce effort.
  • When moving the beam eye down using a pry bar, you should not be too zealous, since there is a brake hose next to it. If you apply too much force when moving the beam, this hose can easily be torn off.
  • To fix the eye in the lowest position, you can use not only a mount, but also a wooden block with a cross-section of 4x4 cm (and many car enthusiasts find this a more convenient solution).
  • Before pressing in a new one, it (as well as the place where it will be installed) should be generously lubricated. However, it is strictly forbidden to use oil or grease as a lubricant, since oil corrodes the surface of the silent block over time. For lubrication, it is better to use soapy water, or even better, regular dishwashing detergent, which can be purchased at any hardware store.

As can be seen from this article, even a novice car enthusiast can replace the rear silent blocks on a VAZ 2109 car.
And for this it is not at all necessary to go to a service center. All you need to do is be patient, strictly follow the instructions above and follow safety precautions. Silent blocks produced by AvtoVAZ can safely be called one of the highest quality parts. It is not surprising that other foreign manufacturers also use them for their cars.

The durability of almost any part, including the silent block, directly depends on the driving style of the motorist. The service life of the element is more than 30 thousand kilometers.

How to replace silent blocks on a VAZ-2106

Silent blocks are used in the construction of cars of all models. They are rubber inserts between suspension parts; they are used to absorb vibration and, accordingly, to prolong the uninterrupted operation of the machine’s chassis. The silent blocks themselves are subjected to very high loads, which leads to their frequent failure. In this article we will talk in detail about how to replace silent blocks on a VAZ-2106 car, we will provide step-by-step instructions and useful recommendations, thanks to which you can perform this rather complex procedure with your own hands, without involving car service specialists.

Why change silent blocks

Before you begin replacing the silent blocks of the rear beam on a VAZ 2110, you need to figure out why such a procedure is being carried out at all.

In fact, it is not always silent blocks that cause car problems. But there are situations in which repairs should be performed immediately.

  1. When traveling, the tires begin to squeak. If the silent blocks are out of order, they cannot move at the same time as the wheels, they are inferior in rotation speed, which is why noise occurs.
  2. Knocks are heard from the rear of the car.
  3. The car is difficult to control, the rear end constantly skids, and it is difficult to take turns.
  4. There is uneven wear on the rear tires; they lose their quality faster than the front tires.
  5. In some cases, tires go flat even though there is no damage.

Description Red polyurethane of the “DRIVE” series
For drivers who enjoy driving, red polyurethane auto components are ideal, as they will maximize the car’s handling and also have a high level of wear resistance. The suspension and body parts are red and are made from 2-component polyurethane produced abroad.

Advantages of polyurethane “CS20”:

● improved handling ● improved wear resistance and strength ● durability is 2-3 times higher than rubber suspension parts ● preservation of properties both in winter and summer at temperatures from -60C to +140C

Recommendations for installing products made of polyurethane “CS20”:

● When installing new polyurethane parts with metal elements, it is necessary to remove rust and rubber residues from the fastening area. If there are large shells and abrasions on the fasteners, they should be replaced with new ones. If there are burrs, remove. In case of significant deviations in geometry and damage to the metal elements of the suspension, we recommend replacing the damaged parts with new ones, for the correct operation of the new polyurethane parts.

● Before installing polyurethane parts, lubricate the contact points between the polyurethane and the metal parts of the suspension or car body with lithium grease.

● To avoid damage to the polyurethane product and to facilitate the installation of parts that require pressing, it is necessary to use special cones or mandrels.

● Installation of parts into the seat must be carried out taking into account the exclusion of distortions and mechanical damage.

● Tightening of suspension elements should only be carried out in a “loaded” state (the wheels of the car should not be suspended).

● Do not wipe or wash polyurethane parts with substances based on acetone and acids.

Signs of wear and need for replacement

  • One of the rear tires is more worn than the other.
  • The wheel alignment relationship is seriously compromised.
  • Driving the car has become more difficult, especially when turning: the car pulls strongly to the side and the driver needs to apply significant effort to prevent the car from skidding.

All the signs listed above indicate that the silent blocks of the rear beam have become unusable and it’s time to change them. These parts do not have a strictly defined service life, but it is generally accepted that they need to be changed every 100,000 kilometers. The reasons for premature wear of these parts can be either bad roads or poor-quality material of the blocks themselves, which has low wear resistance.

Replacing silent blocks

The process of replacing silent blocks of the VAZ-2106 suspension can be divided into two stages:

  1. Replacement of front suspension joints (upper and lower arms).
  2. Replacing the silent blocks of the rear suspension torque rods.

Replacing the silent blocks of the upper arms

Replacing the silent blocks of one of the upper arms of the VAZ-2106 with your own hands is carried out in the following order (not forgetting about safety precautions):

  1. Loosen the bolts securing the desired wheel and jack up the car.
  2. Remove the wheel.
  3. Using two 13mm wrenches, unscrew the nuts securing the ball joint.
  4. Using two 22mm wrenches, remove the lever nut, remove the axle and dismantle the upper lever.

  1. Press out the hinge using a special puller

  1. The lever is fixed in a vice and, by tightening the puller bolt, the hinge is squeezed out of its seat.
  2. The second hinge is pressed out in the same way.
  3. Using the same puller, press in new parts and install the upper arm in place. To do this, repeat the steps in reverse order.
  4. Worn parts on the second lever are changed in the same way.

Replacement methods

We will tell you about two main ways to replace silent blocks on the rear beam, which can easily be used in a garage.

Decide for yourself which method to choose. But before that, familiarize yourself with them in more detail.

First way

The method is not particularly difficult if you strictly follow the instructions. To begin with, we note that the silent block is located at the bottom of the car. Therefore, you will need a jack or inspection hole.

  1. Raise the car with a jack or drive it into a viewing hole. The second option is more convenient, since this way the view of the bottom will be better. And it’s much more convenient to work standing up than lying under a car.
  2. It is not necessary to completely remove the rear beam. When dismantling it, you will need to remove additional brake hoses, which takes a lot of time.
  3. It is better to disconnect the sorcerer so as not to damage it during the repair process. But shoot carefully.
  4. Now remove the nut with a 19mm wrench. You will have to make a serious effort, which is why some car owners call their comrades for help. If there are no assistants, pre-treat the thread with the almighty WD40 or plain water. This will allow the fastener to oxidize. Then clean it with a wire brush, which will make it easier to remove the element.
  5. Using a crowbar, lower the beam down a little, but do not remove it completely.
  6. There is an elastic band on the beam that should be cut off, otherwise it will interfere with the work process. Just keep in mind that if the rubber band is old, feel free to remove it. It is better to dismantle a good product by drilling a small hole.
  7. Now the silent block is removed.
  8. The new part is generously lubricated and pressed into its rightful place. Just do not use grease for lubrication, as this substance corrodes the part. The best lubrication option is regular soap or any available detergent.
  9. Return the sorcerer to its place and tighten the beam.

Second way

The second option for replacing the silent block is even simpler. But he also has his tricks.

  1. Raise the car on a jack or drive it into a viewing hole.
  2. Using the same 19 mm wrench, remove the fastening nuts on the rear beam. This will allow you to detach the beam from the bracket.
  3. Remove the unscrewed bolt and move the rear beam eye down slightly.
  4. To make work easier, insert a wooden beam between the beam and the body, approximately the same size as a regular building brick.
  5. Remove the silent block by hitting it with a hammer.
  6. Lubricate the new block with something slippery, which will allow the element to do its job better.
  7. Press the silent block into its place.
  8. Remove the inserted beam and return the beam to its original position, securing it with fasteners.

At this point, the procedure for replacing the silent block of the rear beam of your domestic ten produced by AvtoVAZ can be considered complete.

Both methods allow you to independently, without unnecessary problems, resolve the issue of a failed silent block. Just in case, don’t forget to call a friend in the garage who will help you at the most difficult stages.

Preparing instruments for the replacement procedure

Replacing VAZ 2106 silent blocks begins with the acquisition and preparation of tools. The main thing is that the tool fits in size and is comfortable to use. So, in order to replace the silent block, you will need:

  1. Device for changing rubber-metal hinge.
  2. Ball joint remover (for removing the upper arm).
  3. Tool for dismantling the steering wheel end (an irreplaceable thing when unpressing the distant steering wheel ends).
  4. Jack.
  5. Twenty-two and twenty-four millimeter wrenches (open-end, socket).
  6. Thirteen millimeter wrench (cross-cut, socket).
  7. Set of mounts.
  8. Hammer.
  9. A thin chisel (it must be very sharp, since the lower silent blocks are often glued to the lower arm under pressure, and to avoid removing the arm, you can use a chisel).

Since silent blocks play a very important role in the life of a car, and changing them is a rather complex and time-consuming process, there is no need to try to save money - you need to buy high-quality branded hinges. Don't know which one to take, rubber or polyurethane? Preferably polyurethane ones, but it should be noted that they are not cheap.

Garage or service station

All car enthusiasts can be divided into two categories:

  1. Those who do most of the repairs independently in their garage, and only in critical cases turn to a car service;
  2. Those who prefer not to touch anything with their own hands, but completely entrust repairs and services to service station technicians.

Each of them is right in their own way. Therefore, we have no right to reproach those who do not want to carry out repairs themselves. After all, garage and professional repair of silent blocks, like other components, has its advantages.

STO has the following advantages:

  • A high-quality, responsible car service provides a guarantee for repairs performed;
  • In the event of a repeated breakdown covered by the warranty, repairs will be carried out free of charge;
  • Professionals are professionals; they have extensive experience and knowledge, which allows them to competently perform their work.

But first you need to find such a car service, which, alas, is not an easy matter. Many provide a guarantee, but when you re-apply, they do everything possible to prove that the breakdown does not comply with the terms of the guarantee. A banal trick.

Repairing your garage will provide the following advantages:

  • Significant financial savings, since you only have to spend money on consumables;
  • The quality of the work performed by a master is always in doubt if you do not know this person personally. So self-repair may be much better than at a service station;
  • You purchase the silent block, and the master only installs it. Why pay money for work that you can do yourself?!;
  • Guarantee that a new one will be installed instead of the old silent block. Questionable service stations can easily install an old, more or less usable silent block instead of the one you gave them. You know what the result is.

A few words about signs of silent block failure

If you notice:

  • Creaking of rubber when driving over uneven surfaces;
  • Knocking while driving over uneven surfaces;
  • Backlash in connections when checking the chassis;
  • Deterioration or cracks in silent blocks;
  • Uneven tire wear disrupts wheel alignment.

It is necessary to take immediate action and replace faulty silent blocks.

To work you will need:

  1. New lower control arm silent blocks - rubber or polyurethane;
  2. Set of keys, hammer;
  3. Soap solution;
  4. Liquid WD-40;
  5. Lift or inspection hole;
  6. A device for pressing out and pressing in silent blocks or, in extreme cases, a vice and tubes with washers of the appropriate diameter for pressing in silent blocks. If you don’t have either one or the other, you can make just such a “device” that works 100% and costs a penny. It consists of several washers, a piece of pipe and a long “12” bolt - see photo.

Why are polyurethane silent blocks better than rubber ones?

Many motorists openly vote for polyurethane silent blocks: thanks to the harder material, they can withstand sudden temperature changes, do not dry out in the heat, do not crack in the cold, and in general are “hardier” than their rubber counterparts.

However, if everything were so clear, there would have been no debate about the choice for a long time. The fact is that these seemingly unambiguous advantages also have a downside: increased hardness leads to a rather harsh ride, less plasticity forces the polyurethane silent block to “work” several times (where a rubber one would “handle” the first time), and at subzero temperatures, the part may become completely stiff and simply crack... In addition, the price tag for polyurethane products turns out to be significantly higher.

For clarity, we have compiled a table in which we separate the advantages and disadvantages of silent blocks made of polyurethane.

Polyurethane silent blocks advantages

Polyurethane silent blocks cons

+ better car handling

– lower comfort for driver and passengers

+ the declared service life is on average 5 times longer than that of rubber analogues

– the actual resource consumption of the part is 2-3 times faster than that of rubber analogues

+ resistant to high temperatures and sudden changes

temperature resistance

– in the cold there is a higher risk of rupture

Thus, there cannot be a clear answer as to which silent blocks are better, rubber or polyurethane. It all depends on your personal preferences.

However, if you have not yet decided which “side” to take, look at several arguments in favor of both options.

Replacement of silent blocks of front levers of VAZ 2114, 2115.

Self-replacement of front arm silent blocks on VAZ 2108, 2109, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2113, 2114, 2115 cars.

Two types of silent blocks are installed on the design of the levers of these cars; the first is located inside the lever and wears out less often. The second is the silent block for fastening the brace, it consists of two halves, and is popularly called a daisy. They very often peel off from the body and cease to perform their function. If such silent blocks are faulty, the car becomes less stable on the road. The replacement process is not particularly complicated, and almost any driver who likes to repair a car with his own hands can handle it.

1. If the car has a crankcase protection installed, it must be removed.2. We thoroughly clean the threads in front of the extension nut with a wire brush and spray 40 wd on it, this can make unscrewing the nut much easier.

3. Using a wrench or socket with a 24 mm wrench, unscrew the extension nut from the lever side.4. We unscrew the two 17 mm bolts from the brace bracket and remove it together with the brace.

5. Now, using a chisel and a hammer, we knock out the silent blocks or just the clips, as happened in my case.

6. Using a hammer, carefully hammer in the new ones and put everything back in the reverse order, and do not forget that the final tightening of the silent block (chamomile) must be done under load.

How to change daisies on a VAZ 2114 or what nuances should be taken into account during the repair process

When you start repairing a VAZ 2114, then first study the technical documents of the vehicle, figure out what components are needed to solve the problem, how to change the daisies on a VAZ 2114, a video can help with this, especially one that demonstrates personal experience in replacing silent blocks. We will also outline standard tips for this repair procedure.

  1. When choosing new kits, you should not make a blanket decision, because it turns out that new spare parts from the VAZ 2108, 2109, 2110, 2112 models are not suitable for the VAZ 2114.
  2. It is recommended to purchase a special puller to quickly perform complex manipulations, and the video will demonstrate how to change daisies on a VAZ 2114 on how best to do this.
  3. Experienced car enthusiasts claim that the device for pressing in a new silent block is easy to do yourself. And you can’t do without it; it is used to facilitate the repair process. To make it yourself in the garage, you will need an M12 bolt, a regular bushing, a washer and a nut. All this is completed according to a special sample and the question of how to change daisies on a VAZ 2114 is solved.

Algorithm for replacing the silent block of the upper arms

So, having acquired the necessary tools, we proceed directly to replacing the rubber-metal hinge of the VAZ 2106.

  1. Using a jack, remove the wheel where replacement work will be carried out.
  2. Using a twenty-four millimeter wrench, the fastening nut is unscrewed from the lever axis. Now it is advisable to unscrew the nut that holds the steering tip. Afterwards, the disassembly procedure is carried out.
  3. Using a twenty-four millimeter wrench, remove the nut that secures the ball joint.
  4. The puller is used to unpress the bipod support pin (not a big problem if the puller is not at hand, then the lever is simply removed using a pair of thirteen keys).
  5. Next, the nut that secures the axis of the upper arm is unscrewed and pulled out (here the owners of the “six” are lucky, since there is no need to tinker with the bumper mounting bolts like in the “fours”, “fives” and “sevens”).
  6. The lever is transferred to a workbench and clamped between a vice.
  7. Next, using a pre-prepared device, the silent blocks of the upper suspension arm of the VAZ 2106 are completely replaced.
  8. After replacing the rubber-metal hinges, we mount the lever in its place in the reverse order, not forgetting to lubricate the axle before doing this. Oil, lithol, nigrol, etc. can be used as a lubricant. It is important to note that the axle nut does not need to be fully tightened. This process will be carried out under the weight of the vehicle itself.
  9. The support is fixed and the wheel is mounted. The car is removed from the jack.

The procedure for changing the silent blocks of the upper suspension arm was completed completely and successfully.

How to replace the silent block of the rear beam of a Lada Priora car

To replace the silent block, removing the beam from the car is not required. We change the silent blocks one by one:

- first at one, then at the other beam lever.

To complete the work you will need:

- car stand;

- universal cup puller.

We prepare the car for work.

We place the car on a reliable stand and remove the rear wheel.

3. Disconnect the elastic lever of the pressure regulator from the earring. 4. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the beam and bracket.
5. Using a 19mm spanner, unscrew the nut, holding the bolt securing the lever to the bracket, and use another wrench of the same size to remove the bolt. 6. We insert a wooden block between the body and the beam. At the same time, make sure that the brake hose of the rear wheel is not stretched.

Using a cup puller for wheel hub bearings or suitable pipe sections, press the silent block towards the threshold of the car. The wheel bearing puller bolt does not fit into the hole in the silent block, so we replace it with a bolt or screw Ø 12 mm. (The cylinder head screw is suitable.)

Squeeze the silent block into the puller cup. We clean the hole for the silent block in the lever from dirt.

The silent block has a stop on one edge, and therefore it should only be pressed out towards the threshold of the car.

9. Wet the new silent block and the hole in the beam with soapy water 10. Insert the silent block into the hole in the lever and press it in with the same puller.

We install the lever in the body bracket and fix it with a bolt and nut without tightening it.

rice. eleven

The lever fastening bolt is inserted into the body bracket from the side of the car threshold.

We insert the elastic lever of the pressure regulator into the earring and secure it with a stopper.

We fix the hand brake cable in the brackets.

We install the wheel and remove the car from the stands.

15. Press the rear of the car several times to self-install the suspension.

16. Finally tighten the nut of the lever mounting bolt to a torque of 66.6–82.3 Nm (6.8–8.4 kgf-m).

17. We replace the silent block of the second lever in the same way.

Replacing silent blocks of the lower arm

By its design, the rubber-metal element is made in the form of a non-separable part, which is non-repairable and only changes if it breaks. To carry out repairs, you need to prepare the following list of tools:

  • silent block remover;
  • ball joint remover;
  • keys at 13, 19, 22, 24;
  • hammer;
  • chisel;
  • mount;
  • lubricant (for example, WD-40);
  • jack.

Removing the lever consists of the following steps:

  1. We jack up one of the sides of the car and remove the wheel.
  2. Unscrew the fastening elements of the shock absorber and remove it.

Dismantling and installation of rubber-metal elements is carried out with one puller, and only the position of the parts changes.

Replacing joints without removing the lower arm

If there is no time or desire to completely disassemble the suspension, then you can replace the silent blocks of the lower arms without dismantling the latter. Having jacked up the front end on the desired side, perform the following steps:

    We place a wooden stop under the lower ball joint. Its height should be such that when the jack is lowered the wheel does not hang out.

Video: replacing lower arm joints on a VAZ 2101–07 without disassembling the suspension

VAZ 2170 Replacement of silent blocks of rear suspension arms

With some skill, silent blocks can be replaced directly on the car by unscrewing the bolts securing the beam to the body brackets and removing the beam eyes from the brackets, but it is more convenient to perform this work on the removed rear suspension beam (see “Replacing the rear suspension beam”).

It is very convenient to replace silent blocks with a special device (puller), but the work can be done with improvised means.

You will need: a silent block remover or a mandrel.

When using a puller, perform the following operations.

Rice. 7.6. Installation and dismantling of the rear suspension arm silent block: 1 – arm; 2, 8 – nut; 3, 12 – washer; 4, 11 – device; 5, 9, 15 – mounting sleeve; 6, 13 – bolt; 7 – rear suspension lever; 10, 14 – silent block; A – mark on the device; B – cutouts on the silent block
Rice. 7.7. Orientation of the silent block during installation: 1 – silent block; 2 – rear suspension arm

When using improvised means, perform the following operations.

1. Place the beam in a vice and press out the silent block using a mandrel of a suitable diameter or a puller.

HELPFUL ADVICE

If you cannot press out the silent block, cut it with a hacksaw. The fit of the sawn silent block in the eye of the lever is significantly weakened.

2. Remove the silent block from the beam eye.

4. Replace the second silent block in the same way.

5. Install the rear suspension beam onto the vehicle. Finally tighten the bolts securing the beam to the body with the car standing on the ground to the torque specified in Appendix 1.

Replacing silent blocks VAZ 2106

The silent block is installed on the car's suspension arms; it is one of the important elements of the suspension. The silent block consists of two metal bushings and rubber inserts.

Photo of the car's lower suspension arm. Number 1 shows the ball joint, 2 – lever, 3 – lever axis (square in cross section), 4 – silent block.

Where is the silent block located?

The silent block connects the torque rod mounting elements, shock absorber mountings, anti-roll bar mountings, gearbox mountings, beam supports, and rear suspension rods.

Why do you need a silent block?

The silent block exists in order to perceive and dampen vibrations transmitted from other elements of the vehicle’s suspension. The silent block design allows it to perceive and absorb vibrations in all planes simultaneously; the silent block can withstand radial, axial and angular loads.

Which element of the car's suspension bears the heaviest load? The answer is silent block. That is why silent blocks wear out quite quickly. If the silent blocks are heavily worn, the car's wheels become uneven or come together. Wheel alignment in this case is a useless exercise, and besides, the money is simply wasted. Replacing silent blocks is quite difficult, especially if you are doing this car repair process for the first time.

Insufficient strut resistance

If the front suspension of the VAZ-2109 has lost the tightness of the return or bypass valve, it is necessary to replace the damaged parts. If there is a small amount or leakage of the working mixture, it is necessary to check, replace worn parts, and add the used composition to the norm.

In addition, in case of wear, settlement, deformation of the guide bushing, rings of the cylinder-piston group, spring mechanism, unusable elements, filters should be replaced and new fluid should be added

It is also necessary to pay attention to the integrity of the additional spring elements, valve discs and hinge block. If necessary, deformed elements must be replaced as quickly as possible, which will facilitate the rapid restoration of the unit in question and prevent further damage to it

Replacing the silent blocks of the lower arms

Replace the rubber-metal joints on the lower arms in a similar way. Only in this case the latter are not removed from the car.

  1. Remove the desired wheel.
  2. Using a 22mm wrench, unscrew the axle nuts on both sides of the lever and remove the thrust washers.
  3. Screw the hollow bolt of the puller onto the axle. Then you need to tighten the nut, holding the bolt from turning. The puller glass will put pressure on the lower arm, gradually moving it away from the hinge.

  1. Insert the new hinge into place and center it in the hole, pressing the lever with a mounting blade. Then, installing the puller stop on the inside of the last one, press it in.
  2. Similar operations are carried out with the remaining silent blocks, after which all the removed parts are returned to their places.

Replacement of silent blocks of rear suspension torque rods

In order to replace worn silent blocks on VAZ-2106 thrust rods, you must:

  1. Place the car on a viewing hole or overpass.
  2. Remove all jet rods in the following order:
  • long transverse rod;
  • long pull to the right;
  • left long pull;
  • short left pull;
  • right short pull.
  1. The rubber-metal joints of the torque rods are changed using procedures that are similar to those given above when describing the replacement of the silent blocks of the VAZ-2106 front suspension.
