I don’t know about anyone, but the stock lock on the “chisel” just got me. I'm tired of the fact that the spare parts come with blatant junk, and the fact that sometimes it's simply impossible to adjust it so that it closes and opens normally with an electric drive, it's so crooked and crooked.

I think that those who think that my hands are crooked and I cannot adjust the lock should hold their tongues. Over the course of three years of operation, I changed 8 (if not more!) locks and 2 or 3 counter parts. I regulated everything. I put washers, nuts and other hardware, removed gaskets, always made all the adjustments, looking from the inside, checked the cover for crookedness, looked at the hinges... everything was useless. The locks simply fell apart on the move after 2-3 months of use, the pins flew out, the tongues broke, etc., and my trunk lid flew up during the next jump on the bumps... very cool, especially on the highway at a speed of over a hundred and with a trunk full of junk. Okay, those were the lyrics, let's get down to business.

We will need: -VAZ 2108-09-13-14 "Samara" with a hatchback body (aka "chisels"), -the owner of the above "chisels" who is fucked with a stupid stock lock (or the one who will do all this), - time, -lock from Lada-"Kalina" (catalog number 1118-5606010-10), -a little corner 30 x 30 mm, 1-2 mm thick. You need about 10-15 cm.p., - an M6 x 50-60 bolt (for the mating part) or a mating part to the lock, - two M6 x 25-35 bolts + 4 M6 nuts + washers, - the trunk lock motor reducer (i.e. ... almost any motor, as long as it is reliable, the slightest effort will be enough, since the lock is opened by a spring inside it, and not a drive), - a little cable or rod for connecting with the lock + fittings, - wires, button, relay, terminals, heat shrink – everything for connecting the lock opening motor. -a little paint.

Tools: -electric drill, -angle grinder (aka “grinder”), -files and needle files, -hacksaw for metal (it’s not convenient to work with a grinder everywhere), -spanners and open-end wrenches for 8 and 10, -vise (it’s hard to do without them) – the parts are too small), - crimp for terminals, - pliers, - lighter (shrink heat shrink),

So, initially there was an idea to adapt the door lock (more precisely, the outer part) from the same “chisel” (I changed the locks to silent ones, so I had as many as 4 of them lying around unnecessary). The idea was born while looking at foreign-made trunk locks. In essence, they are approximately the same as door ones (meaning car doors, of course). The idea was not only born, it was even almost realized, see photos 01 and 02. The remains of the stock lock served as a bracket.

I have long wanted to open the trunk with a button, everyone knows that in Kalina it is very difficult to do this, for example, I got into the car, started the engine and need to throw something into the trunk, to do this you need to turn off the engine, get out, insert the key, open the trunk, in general it is very inconvenient! And after washing in winter, the lock may freeze so much that you will have to drive until spring)

The question, as always, began with studying the topic, there are 2 types of lock buttons, the old and the new (since 2010) model.

I can say I was lucky, the old-style lock button and the trunk operation algorithm I need looks like this (if yours is different, then the new-style button)

What is most interesting in any Kalina is almost everything to unlock the trunk with a button, everyone saw a third button on the key fob just for opening the trunk (the button needs to be pressed and held for 3 seconds), wires are laid in the trunk for the activator and the standard place for its installation is in trunk, you need to add a little!

In general, you will need to buy an activator, absolutely any one, I took this one:

I modified the ends of the wires a little so that they fit into the standard connector:

You will need to make the following part, it is called a rotary washer:

Then you can remove the trunk trim (attached to the pistons), take out the retaining ring and the plastic pusher (see photo 1) and try on the parts, they should look like this:

You will also need a regular washer with an internal diameter = the internal diameter of the plastic pusher. The thickness of the washer must be very small so that the entire system can be assembled, here is a photo:

After that, we put everything back together, first insert the plastic pusher, then the rotary washer, then the nut. We fix everything with a locking ring (if it doesn’t fit, then you need to make the washer even thinner)

We insert the activator into a place specially prepared for this:

Now I’ll tell you how everything works in words!

Firstly, the door does not open on its own, you still need to press the open button, but the key is no longer needed! (If you wish, you can use the key if the battery is suddenly disconnected). Here are some examples of work:

— On the remote control, press the door open button once, only the driver’s door will unlock. Press the button again - the passenger doors and trunk will unlock! When we close the car, all the doors and trunk are blocked (it’s no longer possible to leave the trunk open, but this has happened)

— If you press and hold the trunk open button on the remote control for 3 seconds. then only the trunk door will unlock!

— You can also use the door open/close button from the interior. You can open/close the trunk together with the doors!

In general, now everything has become the way I would like it to work initially! But why hasn’t AvtoVAZ done this at the factory yet?!

Door adjustment process

If manipulation of the replaced elements is not enough, technical intervention is required. Regulation is necessary for the following factors:

  • the gap in the extreme part of the structure causes the door on the Kalina car to not close tightly;
  • The problem is caused by a faulty door lock.

Violation of the geometry of the structure in the doorway is the most common cause of the defect. Gaps can appear in any part of the joint with the body. Most often this happens from above and below. The adjustment in these cases is similar, but has minor differences.

Adjusting the bottom of the door

First of all, it is necessary to establish access to the inside of the lock from the outside. To do this, the glass is completely lowered. Adjusting a door with a large gap at the top

Failure to correctly position the door is not always due to a manufacturing defect. The appearance of an enlarged gap in the upper part of the doorway is often associated with natural processes. Poor quality roads, driving on rough terrain, and heavy weight of the structure lead to the door sagging relative to its original position.

Restoring the position of the element relative to the body is carried out by a similar physical impact in a state of incomplete closure. The glass goes down completely. The door closes with one click. In this state, the size of the gap is regulated by moving the door toward or away from you, depending on the force applied.

Alignment is considered successful if the gaps are the same on all sides. The front doors are calibrated in the same way.

Electric drive: easy installation

The work is not at all difficult, the main thing is to purchase an electric trunk lock and perform all the steps described.

Replacing the trunk lock is quite labor-intensive and will require a lot of time to implement. If the owner of LADA Kalina encounters difficulties, we advise you to contact specialists when performing the installation procedure.

How to install the activator

The Kalina station wagon trunk lock activator is easy to install. It is enough to take a self-drilling screw and secure it on one side with it and on the other with a wire holder. To check the device, you need to connect it to the standard connector.

The only problem in all this work may be the back door being picked up at the wrong time. After the current stops supplying the activator, it closes with the first latch, but the trunk is not completely closed. In order to get into the so-called fifth door, you will have to use the key again.

A lock with a button is not difficult. But during work it is necessary to assemble the circuit and stretch the wires. In this case, one programmable alarm channel (additional) should be used.

There are two main connection options. First: the button goes to +12 on the activator, bypassing the relay. The advantage of this connection is its simplicity and the absence of unnecessary elements, the disadvantage is the need to run additional wires.

Installing the activator using the second method is more labor-intensive. You will have to use additional elements, namely diodes. In addition, there is a need to search for “mass”. The main advantage is the use of a minimum number of wires.

Many experts prefer the first option due to its simplicity. The wire can be copper PV-3 with a square cross-section. It must be pulled along the left side and thresholds. The switching can be crimping and electrical tape on top.

A standard pink-red wire is used to control the activator. It must be connected to the relay, wrapped and hidden under the BUS mounting frame. All operations are carried out with the negative battery terminal removed. This is how the electric trunk lock drive is mounted.

Luggage compartment lock

You can, if desired, modify the trunk lock of the Kalina hatchback in exactly the same way as was considered in the case of the Kalina station wagon. One of the main nuances, oddly enough, is not in the electrics or body design features, but in the fastening of the trunk trim. The point is that the Kalina hatchback is supported not only by pistons, but also by plastic corners.

That is why, when removing the trunk trim of a Kalina hatchback, you must pull the trim from the top: while the “hedgehogs” are easy to replace, the stationary plastic holders are only easy to break. And more about plastic. The bottom line is that the Kalina hatchback has a plastic trim on the trunk lid. According to the observations of many car owners, these are two problems at once. The first is that plastic is not entirely suitable for this part.

Constant efforts to open the fifth door, combined with a small number of stiffeners, gradually lead to the appearance of cracks in the plastic. Then everything follows domino rules. Perhaps the plastic will soon “fly”, and then you will have to think about repairs. Or, which is no easier, the plastic cover may remain in place, but will begin to “walk” along the metal part. There are also aesthetes among Kalina hatchback owners who simply do not like the look of the trunk lid opening button. In general, all of the above reasons often lead hatchback owners to the same decision: an opening button on the fifth door is not needed. To solve all the problems at once, you can not only modify the Kalina trunk lock, but also remove the button from the fifth door, and, on the contrary, install a button in the car interior.
