Types of towbars for VAZ 2107
Before purchasing a towbar for a VAZ 2107, you should familiarize yourself with their design differences. They can be roughly divided according to the type of hook and attachment points.
Hooks come in the following types:
- A simple hook with a lifting capacity of up to 1.5 tons, secured with two bolts.
- Quick-release hook with a coupling connection, allowing you to reduce the length of the vehicle.
- End hook with a lifting capacity of 2-3 tons.
Places (types) of fastening towbars are as follows:
- In the holes provided by the manufacturer for attaching the towbar (there are none on the VAZ 2107).
- Into the technological holes in the body into which the towbar mounting bolts are inserted. These are holes in the side members, bumper mounts. Sometimes during the fastening process you have to drill them out or add a few extra ones.
- In holes that are drilled specifically for attaching a tow bar. The latter is used as a template for marking.
Connecting the VAZ 2107 towbar socket
They once asked me to pull a car trailer not far away (within the village), since there was a towbar on the car, my godson’s father asked. The trailer was purchased, that is, with all the wiring. When we hitched it up, I decided to check at once whether the socket on the towbar worked for me, which after buying the car was without a cover, but sealed with something resembling chewing gum) The photo shows a whitish spot on the socket of the towbar - this is the “plug”:
When I connected the trailer to this outlet, it turned out that out of the entire set of lighting fixtures, only the right turn signal was on. At the same time, in the car of the person who asked for help, the light on the trailer worked fully. Conclusion - the socket is not working properly, and is essentially broken. Having returned home, I decided to remove it altogether (before buying a new one), since I don’t carry trailers, and there’s no point in having such an outlet. The wire into the trunk from the socket entered through a drainage hole in the trunk floor and went out to the right rear light, where the entire trail of wires for the rear lighting fits. The socket wiring harness at the junction with the standard wiring was completely “bitten off” and pulled out into the street. I was able to unscrew the socket from the tow bar, although I had to tinker with the rusted nuts and bolts while lying on the ground.
At the junction of the towbar socket with the standard wiring there was a thick, creepy twist of wires covered in blue electrical tape.
It was impossible to unwind such a thing - the electrical tape either broke or simply broke off, like plastic. I had to carefully unravel it with a knife. When I finally overcame the electrical tape, a very interesting thing was revealed. Wires for the socket were wound around the standard wires, somehow crookedly insulated with the same blue electrical tape. I had to unravel all this...
Along the way, I found the reason why my rear PTFs suddenly failed. In the place where there is a branch to the left lamp, the wire that supplies “+” to the PTF came off, therefore both lamps went out. The wire was stripped and soldered.
Then I took normal electrical tape and wrapped everything up in a more or less neat twist. After all the manipulations it turned out like this.
The process of getting rid of the blue electrical tape gradually continues) There are still a bunch of similar places left over from the previous owner)
What you need to connect the tow bar
To connect, you need spare parts that are sold in any specialized store:
- Socket housing. It must have a lid and a rubber seal. All components must fit tightly together. If play is detected, it is better to select another part. The contacts should not dangle in the sockets. It is imperative to check the condition of all threads on this component.
- Single-core wire used in car wiring. Its cross-section should not be less than one and a half square meters. ml.
- Terminal blocks. It would be better if they had safety sockets.
- Corrugated hose. It can be either metal or plastic. Electrical wiring runs through it.
To secure the wires you will have to buy several plastic clamps. You will also need a silicone gasket.
Step-by-step connection guide
- The connection diagram for a car trailer socket has the following order:
- First you need to cut the conductors to the required length, which is indicated in the diagram.
- Carefully clean and tin their ends, and then fix them in the socket.
- Assemble the harness into a corrugation and secure the socket. If you find any problem areas, then they need to be sealed.
- Take the resulting corrugation and stretch it as indicated in the installation diagram.
- Find the connector block and solder the ends, then connect the wires to the left and right lights.
- After all the manipulations, tighten the clamps thoroughly and hide the electrical wiring.
If you are not confident in your own abilities and do not have the necessary knowledge, then the best option would be to entrust this work to an experienced specialist.
A qualified technician knows all the intricacies of such work, and if problems arise, you can contact him again to correct the problem. Incorrect connection can lead to overheating of the electrical wiring and its complete failure.

Universal connection method
For owners of modern cars, connecting the socket will be easier.
And all this is due to the fact that the wiring itself is much more complex. You will have to install a special matching unit. With its help, all optics of the tow hitch are diagnosed. And if the current consumption increases (during a short circuit), the driver will be warned. A notification will also occur if one of the lamps fails (the current consumption decreases). For this reason, experienced auto electricians advise using a matching device. Installing a towbar socket on VAZ cars using a universal method:
- Install the matching device and connect it to the car wiring. Connect the connectors according to the diagram. To activate the matching device, you need to turn it on by applying power. The optics on the trailer will start working, depending on what signal is being received.
- In rare cases, the connectors on the matching unit and the trailer do not match. There are many manufacturers of electrics and trailers, which is why such “disagreements” happen. But if you have a pinout diagram for the trailer plug and the car’s electrics, you can solve this problem quite quickly.
The functioning of optics on a trailer depends on the quality of installation. Carefully insulate exposed wire sections to prevent short circuits.
About the main features and connection tips
How to connect the towbar socket? When installing the electrical wiring of the machine, stranded copper alloy conductors should be used. A good option would be to use conductors in which the copper core will have a cross-section of 1.5 square meters. mm. Conductors must be double insulated.
After installing the towing mechanism using the selected connection method, it is necessary to check the functionality of the lighting devices and protect the internal elements of the electrical devices from moisture. You should use graphite or silicone lubricants that counteract the oxidation of contacts.
Tips for operating the electrics of the towing mechanism include::
- it is necessary to prevent the possibility of overloads in the network when using household appliances, which can cause a fire;
- periodically check the electrical wiring and elements in the trailer, before each trip, at least externally, the trailer plug must be securely fastened and protected from external environmental influences;
- before each season, check the quality of electrical connections outside the vehicle interior and the trailer mechanism, protect contact areas and connectors with lubricants and other means;
- do not allow dangling wires, be sure to secure them to structural elements using plastic clamps, if possible, convert the trailer to waterproof LED devices.
If you have doubts about your abilities, then it is better not to take risks and contact specialists who, for a small fee, will connect the towbar wiring in accordance with all the requirements for installation and connection of additional devices.
When connecting the socket of the trailer mechanism of the car, you can seek qualified help, especially if the electrical installation is carried out on an imported car. Experienced specialists know the intricacies of switching, and the likely possibilities that appear only during the operation of transport. Incorrect installation of conductors can lead to failure of lighting devices.
Installing a towbar on a VAZ 2107
Before installing the tow bar, you should check the condition of the paint on its surface and, if necessary, treat it with a primer and anti-corrosion coating. This part is especially susceptible to moisture and other chemically active substances, so additional protection against corrosion will not hurt. Next you should do the following:
- Remove the trunk mat.
- Attach the towbar to the bottom and mark the locations of additional mounting holes.
- Drill holes and treat their edges with a primer and anti-corrosion coating.
- Install the tow bar on the VAZ 2107 and tighten the fastening bolts.
- Thread the wiring included in the delivery kit of the towbar into the heat-shrinkable tube and shrink it so that it tightens and protects the wires (instead of the tube, you can use a winding of electrical tape).
- Remove the rear trunk trim.
- Pass the wiring harness through the hole through which the license plate light wires pass so that it goes down to the towbar from above. If the harness does not pass through, you can make an additional hole for it in the lower part of the trunk.
- Using pliers, install the fuses on the harness on the trunk side.
- Connect the wires coming from the fuses to the rear lights.
- Place the ends on the other end of the harness.
- Install the connecting plug and connect the wire lugs to it.
- Secure the harness to the towbar using electrical tape.
- Treat the places where the towbar is attached to the car body with mastic to protect the body and mounting bolts from corrosion.
- Install the rear trunk trim and lay the carpet.
Installing a towbar on a VAZ 2107 expands the capabilities of the car. By securing the trailer, you can use the “seven” as a fairly spacious and heavy-duty cargo transport. This makes it convenient to transport crops from the dacha or building materials for repairs or housing construction. Also, the presence of a towbar facilitates and improves the fastening of the tow rope. It makes it easier to pull another car out of the mud or tow it to a repair site.
How to connect
Open the trunk and remove the mats. Remove the inner lining of the rear side, if there is one. We gain access to the back side of the car's rear lights.
Connection diagram using a relay
Now everything is simple. — We clean small areas on the wires of the direction indicators, clearance and stop indicators. — We solder our new wires to them and insulate the connection well. Since the heat shrink tube cannot be put on without cutting the wires, we use insulating tape. — We screw the ground wire onto the body.
— Now we collect the wires into a neat bundle, put it in the corrugation and look in the bottom of the trunk for a technological hole with a rubber plug in the place where the output of the harness will be most convenient. — We cut a hole in the plug so that the corrugation is pulled through it with some tension. — We take the cable out under the car and lay it to the towbar socket.
Secure with cable ties if necessary. — All that remains is to cut off the supply from the wires, put on heat-shrinkable tubes, solder to the towbar socket and shrink the tubes into place using a lighter or a hair dryer. — If the towbar is removable, we make a detachable harness. But since the connector will be located under the car, it will be difficult to protect it from moisture.
The outlet itself is connected in two ways:
- Standard. In this case, no changes are expected to the vehicle's electrical system. If the trailer and trailer hitch have the appropriate connectors, then a circuit for such a connection is not required - you just need to insert the socket into the socket.
- Universal. In the case when we are not talking about standard equipment, but about an additionally purchased towbar or trailer, a more complex connection is most often required.
If everything is clear with the standard version, then there are two options for connecting the tow bar to the car wiring using a universal method.
Option 1
This method is suitable for situations where the car does not have a modern control unit, which makes it possible to connect the wires directly to the electrical circuit. This means that the wiring coming from the connector is connected to the wires of the rear light elements.
To do this, you first need to refer to the trailer socket connection diagram, which can be found in the accompanying documents and instructions. Next, the socket itself is connected in the area where the car’s rear light harness block is located. Most often, in this place you can find a special technological window provided by manufacturers in order to simplify the procedure for replacing damaged light bulbs.
Healthy! In this case, you must have an extra wire for the second turn signal.
To connect the outlet this way, you can use crimp clips or simply strip the insulation from the wires, connect them and secure them by soldering. It is also worth considering that in order to connect everything correctly, it is better to arm yourself with a wiring diagram of the machine.
Option 2
If you are the owner of a modern foreign car, then most likely it has complex electronic components installed that will not allow you to connect the trailer using the first method. The fact is that the installed control unit constantly monitors the optics located in the rear of the car. As soon as more current consumption begins in this area, this will be perceived by the system as an error.
To avoid this problem, an additional element is used, which is called a matching block. This device is connected to the car’s standard electrical system, and it becomes a kind of intermediary, allowing the signal to be seamlessly transmitted to the light elements of the trailer.
Healthy! The control unit simply will not “see” the additional element, and accordingly the driver will not receive any error messages.

If you do not want to buy a matching unit, then you can use a little trick - use a relay. By and large, it will serve as a control element that supplies voltage to the side lights of the trailer. The relay can also be installed for brake lights and fog lights (if installed).
Once you have connected the trailer and checked that all systems are working properly and the lights are on, be sure to protect the internal components from moisture. Silicone is used for “gaps”, and to protect the contacts from oxidation it is recommended to treat them with graphite lubricant.
Standard socket connection method
The trailer has a plug that has 7 or 13 pins.
It will not always be useful, so motorists use a universal method of connecting the towbar socket. On most domestic cars of the “classic” VAZ 2101-2107 family, the installation of coordination and control units is not provided. Therefore, the socket is installed for a specific trailer. To do this, you only need to know the pinout of the plug. The socket is connected by a wiring harness to the rear light of the car. Before connecting the towbar socket, carefully study the vehicle wiring. The best installation method is to connect the socket to the rear light using plugs. Enough for 7 plugs:
- Weight (minus battery).
- Left turn signal.
- Right turn signal.
- Stop signal.
- Parking lights.
And a couple of spare ones wouldn't hurt. In the event of a breakdown, you can quickly transfer the wires from one contact to another. Carefully study the rear light diagram so as not to make mistakes during installation. And you will have to install other fuses. Standard ones installed on a car have a current reserve of about 25% - this is the normal value used in calculating electrical circuits.
As the load increases, the maximum permissible current becomes higher, so you need to replace several fuses, maintaining a margin of about 25%.
Types of connection diagrams
A towbar connector is sometimes called a regular connector. Using this device, you can connect electrically conductive elements of a vehicle to a trailer. There are several types of connectors:
- The thirteen-pin socket is used mainly in Russia.
- The American or European standard has 7 pins, that is, 7 pin connectors.
- A special connector is also available.
The 7-pin towbar pinout requires the use of several leads. Their thickness should be 1.5 mm or 2 mm. 6 wires of 1.5 mm and one wire of 2 mm are used.
Figure 1. Pinout diagrams for the 7-pin connector
- The "L" represents the wire going to the left side of the car - the turn signal.
- "54G". Designed to connect to the rear fog lamp.
- “31” – wire – “minus”. It has a thickness of 2.5 mm.
- "R" is connected to the right turn signal.
- "58 R". He goes to the right side and lights up the license plate of the car.
- "54" is responsible for the brake lights.
- "58". This is the left side of the dimensions.
To avoid making mistakes, follow the diagrams.
Below is a picture for pin 7. The coloring is standard and is used on Russian-assembled cars, for example, on the VAZ 2107. But sometimes there are some color deviations. If you are using a European car, like a Renault Duster, then not all connectors may be used.
Figure 2. Color scheme
Explanation of colors:
- Left turn signal control.
- PTF. On foreign cars this contact is usually not used.
- Weight.
- Control of right turn signals.
- Left side lights.
- Stop lights.
- Right side lights.
The seven-pin connector is most often not used on modern foreign cars. 13 pins are connected there. But if an old type of plug is installed on the trailer, it must be connected to the new Euro connector using a conductor. This is much easier than replacing the entire connector on the car.
Figure 3. Alternative circuit design
Very often, motorists have to transport large loads. Placing them on the roof of a car like a VAZ 2110 is inconvenient and unsafe. That is why you have to deal with connecting the trailer. This must be done correctly - through the tow bar. But in order to make a reliable connection, you will need to buy a device from good manufacturers who have long proven themselves on the market on the positive side.
List of the best manufacturers:
- Bosal. The manufacturer provides its customers with a wide range of products. All components are qualitatively connected. The best components are used. Instructions for use are always provided with the device. It is clear and visual.
- Thule. The company is also known under the Brink brand. The models are quick-release, so you don’t have to spend a long time fiddling around with connecting and disassembling. The quality of materials and workmanship is very good. The brand has reliably proven itself.
- Auto-Hack. This model has reasonable prices, but the quality of construction is one of the best. You can find a wide selection of products in stores. Quick release models are also available.
- Baltex. People with domestic as well as Chinese cars can purchase. The workmanship is good, but somewhat inferior to previous models. The fasteners are made of stainless steel, and therefore you can drive with a trailer in the rain without any problems.
- Avto S. Suitable for Chinese and Russian cars, both Toyota Hilux and Lada Vesta. The prices are very low.
There should not be any difficulties in connecting a Kurgan trailer or the same MZSA with a VAZ 2110. Everything is our own, original, and therefore simple, provided by the manufacturer.
But situations are different. Some require a special adapter adapter, others need to adjust the wiring itself and determine which wiring goes where. Supposedly incompatible trailer hitches and machines can in fact be connected. But this is quite difficult to do.
There are several important points to consider:
- If the machine is used to connect to different caravans from different manufacturers, it would be logical to install a pair of 7-pin sockets;
- For Russia it is not very convenient and easy to select a “company” for 13-pin sockets;
- Depending on the model, series and year of manufacture of the car, they may have differences in terms of pinout. It happens that side lights are output to pin 5, although on another version they go to pin 7;
- Previous owners of used cars could well have done something weird and used their own special circuit to connect the trailer;
- You should always check the car's electrical circuit and consult official documents.
Not everyone has preserved their native documents. And then people turn to various forums for help, looking for answers on the World Wide Web.
I'm not at all opposed to you reading my materials. But some issues require individual consideration. That’s why I invite you to ask them in the comments, and I try to answer everyone.
For trailers connected to vehicle towbars, I have special recommendations.
How to avoid falling asleep while driving at night: 15 useful tips
Category: Instructions
Contact the manufacturer. Or go to a good, trusted electrician. Moreover, it is not necessary to go to the office of the company that produces the car or trailer. Everything can be found on official resources. Such information is completely true, and therefore you will not find errors common in the recommendations of supposedly skilled people.
I very much doubt that anyone wants to face this. Follow this simple advice.
Pinout options
At first I thought that I would describe to you in detail where each contact is on the socket, where it goes and what it is intended for.
But now they understand that the idea is pointless. It will only confuse you even more and drive you into a dead end. We need to do it much simpler. Visual examples are the best option. I will prepare for you several images showing the essence of typical pinouts on sockets of towing coupling devices. They should not act as the basis for your own connection. Remember, only official documents and manufacturer's instructions. Each machine may have its own characteristics.
Well, let's start with the good old domestic cars. This is where we most often see trailers.
In the case of domestically produced machines, the standard pinout looks something like this.
Nothing complicated. But the situation with European cars. The differences are minor, but they are there. Therefore, consider what kind of car you have at your disposal.
There is already a 13-pin monster here. In fact, there is nothing particularly difficult in connecting, but still the difference of 6 contacts makes itself felt.
As you can see, each standard scheme has its own characteristics. Connecting a trailer to a car is more than just connecting two plugs. Sometimes you have to rack your brains here. And in order not to break it, you can turn to good specialists. For example, to us.

HOMEMADE TOWCH OR FACTORY HANDLE
Despite the fact that today purchasing a towbar for a VAZ 2107 is not a problem, some motorists still prefer to make such a design themselves. This is due to the fact that factory products do not suit the owners according to some criteria, and in terms of finances, homemade towbars are cheaper. Therefore, one’s own ideas arise regarding the manufacture of a trailed one, especially since finding the necessary drawing today is not particularly difficult. But before you start making your own coupling structure, you need to think carefully and weigh the pros and cons.
A homemade towbar will cost less than a factory one, but before purchasing and installing it, you need to think about whether it’s worth the risk
What could be the dangers of installing a homemade tow bar? And there can be a lot of troubles:
- Passing the technical inspection will be problematic, although this issue can be resolved: the trailer can be removed for the duration of the procedure.
- A significant problem may be structural failure due to improper manufacturing or installation. As a result, you can damage not only your car, but also become the culprit of an accident.
You need to understand that making a towbar with your own hands is a risk. If you purchase a certified product, you can be completely confident in the safety of this product.

WHERE AND HOW TO INSTALL THE SOCKET
The electrics of modern car trailers are quite simple. For domestic cars, a circuit with a seven-pin connector has been adopted.
Let's try to figure out what goes where here.
— Left turn signal. — Rear fog lamp. - Weight. — Right direction indicator. — Right size. - Stop signal. — Left clearance.
— Left clearance. - Weight. - Not involved. — Right turn signal — Stop light. - Reverse. — Right size.
We do not include the colors of the wires on purpose, as they may differ for trailers from different manufacturers.
What is required for installation? Now let's prepare everything we need.
1. heat shrink tube; 2. insulating tape (in some places the tube is not applicable); 3. wire with good insulation, cross section 1.5 mm2. It is better to take wires of different colors, this will eliminate confusion during wiring; 4. wire with a cross-section of 2.5 mm2 for ground. Since it alone provides a negative contact for all electrics, let’s take it with a reserve; 5.
- a set of keys; - good slotted and Phillips screwdrivers; — pliers; - wire cutters; — lighter for shrinking tubes; - breadboard knife; - terminal crimping pliers; — soldering iron 40 W.
Where is the additional socket attached?
If you need to install an additional trailer hitch socket, it must be mounted in the towbar socket.
How to connect contacts?
The contacts are connected using a pinout diagram. If the manufacturer is conscientious, then the box will definitely include instructions for proper placement. If there is no pinout, then the car owner will have to independently determine the identity of all contacts.
What materials are needed to install an outlet?
Every car owner tries to improve his car by changing its characteristics and increasing comfort. If there is a need to transport cargo on a VAZ 2107 whose dimensions do not fit into the luggage compartment, then in this case there is a solution - install a towbar. You can install the product yourself, for which you need to prepare the necessary components and follow the step-by-step recommendations.
A towbar or tow hitch is an additional vehicle equipment designed for coupling and towing a trailer. On the VAZ 2107, such a design is installed if the standard trunk is not enough. Elements are provided that allow, if necessary, only towing the car.
Before purchasing a towbar for a VAZ 2107, you need to find out what they are and what their differences are. Products are classified according to the type of hook and location of installation. For the car in question, the hooks are:
- simple design, when the hook is designed to transport loads up to 1.5 tons, fastening is carried out on two bolted connections;
- quick-release hook with a coupling connection, which allows you to reduce the overall length of the vehicle;
- end-type hook with a lifting capacity of 2–3 tons.
Towbars are classified according to the type of hook (ball) and installation location
HOW IS THE TOWCH ATTACHED?
The towbar can be attached in several ways:
- there are none in the holes provided);
- into the technological holes of the body elements (spars, bumper fastenings), into which bolts are inserted that secure the towbar;
- into holes that are made specifically for mounting a towbar, with preliminary markings.
Since the VAZ 2107 does not have holes for installing a towbar from the factory, they must be made independently in the bumper and body of the car
Despite the fact that today purchasing a towbar for a VAZ 2107 is not a problem, some motorists still prefer to make such a design themselves. This is due to the fact that factory products do not suit the owners according to some criteria, and in terms of finances, homemade towbars are cheaper.
A factory towbar is a design from manufacturers who have received a license to manufacture it, while companies are engaged in the manufacture of towbars for different brands of cars. One of the main advantages of a factory design is that the coupling part is tested. This indicates the safety of the tow bar, unlike homemade options.
The factory set of the towbar includes the following elements:
- the metal part itself;
- installation instructions usually take the form of a drawing;
- fastening elements;
- socket and wires for connecting it.
The package of a certified towbar includes the part itself, fasteners, a connector with wires and an installation diagram
First of all, you need to take into account that the trailer for the VAZ 2107 from any manufacturer is a universal design. The device is attached with bolts to the rear bumper and body. Following the manufacturer's instructions, installation will not be difficult. However, before carrying out work, it is necessary to prepare the vehicle itself, or, more precisely, its individual parts for installation.
In addition, you should take into account that with the installation of a trailed one, the load on your “seven” will increase, and specifically on the bottom of the luggage compartment. To avoid unpleasant situations in the future, it is better to reinforce the trunk floor, for example, with wide metal plates or washers during the installation process.
When installing the towbar, the trunk floor should be reinforced with wide washers or metal plates
To install the tow bar on the “seven” you will need the following tools and materials:
- drill with a set of drills;
- set of wrenches;
- pliers;
- primer;
- insulating tape;
- anti-corrosion mastic.
Before installing the towbar, prepare the necessary tools and materials
The process of installing a tow hitch on a VAZ 2107 is carried out in the following sequence:
- Remove the carpet from the trunk.
- Take the towbar and apply it to the bottom of the car for marking. An assistant holds the structure, and a second person marks the installation site with chalk.
The towbar is applied to the bottom of the car and the holes for fastening are marked with chalk.
- After marking, holes are drilled in the bottom and bumper of the car in accordance with the diameter of the bolts and the design of the trailer itself.
- After drilling, the holes are treated with primer and covered with anti-corrosion material.
After drilling, the holes are treated with primer and covered with bitumen mastic
- Install and secure the tow bar. The fasteners are tightened until they stop.
Having installed the tow bar, tighten the fasteners until they stop.
- Connect the trailer socket.
The tow bar, or more precisely, its electrical part, is connected using a special socket. Through it, voltage is supplied to the dimensions, turn signals and stops on the trailer. On a VAZ 2107, the electrical connector is connected to the standard wiring, which connects to the rear lights. The socket can have 7 or 13 contacts.
The socket is usually installed on a special bracket provided on the towbar from the factory. All that remains is to secure the round connector and make the connection.
The socket is mounted on a special towbar bracket
The towbar connector on the seventh model Zhiguli is connected in the following order:
- The wiring that comes with the tow hitch is placed in a corrugated tube.
- Remove the luggage compartment trim.
To connect the socket from the standard wiring, you will need to remove the trunk trim
- To lay the harness, make a hole in the trunk floor or use the bumper bracket.
The harness with wires is laid in the prepared hole or in the bumper bracket
- Connect the wiring to the rear lights.
The wires from the connector are connected to the car’s standard wiring, going to the rear lights.
- The harness is secured with electrical tape or plastic ties.
The tourniquet is fixed using electrical tape or plastic ties
- All fastening areas and elements are treated with anti-corrosion materials so that in the future the device can be easily dismantled and the spread of rust can be prevented.

Figure 4. 5 nuances about connecting the towbar socket
Look at the picture of the towbar connector. Switching off will not be particularly difficult, especially if there is a universal component element, which is a towbar connector. It is very convenient to make the connection if the plug and socket match the connectors. Accordingly, a seven-pin socket must be connected to a seven-pin plug. In this option, you can make a normal connection, do not forget to combine the required sockets with the corresponding sockets.

Figure 6. Cover
First familiarize yourself with the location of all seven connectors. If they coincide visually, then you can simply try to connect one to the other. If the towbar socket is of high quality, then it must have a cover. It is needed to protect against various external influences. Such protection will be required at a time when the towbar is not connected to the trailer.

In this option, you can make a normal connection, do not forget to combine the required sockets with the corresponding sockets.
Traffic police requirements for towbars in 2020, types of trailer hitch and installation rules
Contents A towbar is a traction coupling device designed for transporting trailers or trailers using a car. A towbar on a car has several types:
Attaches firmly to the vehicle.
The trailer hitch is installed on many vehicles by the manufacturer. However, some motorists install these elements themselves. Before performing the installation, you need to know what requirements the traffic police imposes on a tow bar in 2020.
This device has hinges in its design, thanks to which the device can be easily folded and stored under the car bumper.
It is most dangerous for road users; its use in passenger cars is prohibited.
The trailer hitch is installed by snapping a special lock.
Some companies produce folding trailer hitches with an electric drive, which can be controlled directly from the vehicle interior.
Important information
The definition of a connector can be described as a combination of plugs and sockets that are connected after the trailer is attached to the hitch.

Here it is important to pay attention to who is the manufacturer of the towing device and the trailer itself. In some cases, the number of contacts they have is different. Our standard pinout includes 7 contacts. This is a European and domestic manufacturing principle. But if you have an American car in front of you, be so kind as to understand the 13-pin connector. It is also important that the contacts on plugs and sockets are counted differently.
If you need to connect different types of trailers and vehicles, you will need to use a special connection block or adapter. Alternatively, you can make adjustments to the pinout. But this will require deeper knowledge of auto electrics, as well as a detailed study of the design of the car itself.
Is it necessary to register a towbar with the traffic police?
Contents of the article: Question: My neighbor in the garage scared me that now traffic police officers will fine for a tow bar, and that now it needs to be registered. Is this true? Hello, dear car enthusiasts! Yes, there has indeed been a lot of buzz on this issue lately.
Let's figure out whether registration of a towbar with the traffic police is really necessary? We were first asked this question after June 1, 2020. To be honest, at that time we ourselves did not know the answer and therefore turned to the district department of the traffic police for clarification. The deputy answered our question.
The head of the department replied that indeed many people are interested in this law. According to the new rules, changes to the design of the car must be registered.

But there is a certain list of changes in the design that do not require approval from the traffic police. And it is precisely the TSU that is on this list.
But again, there is one “but.” The design of a passenger car must allow for the installation of this device in the future.
